Title: 696 Screen advice please Post by: mrs696 on January 02, 2010, 05:59:27 PM Just after some info
My wife has a Monster 696 with the little screen out front of the dash - This is clear and she has asked me to get it dark window tinted at the local workshop. No probs but how do you separate the clear screen from the dash housing. It seems to be riveted on even though it looks like 4 x allen screws and those rubber expanding plugs that hold most fairings/screens on. I have every size allen key known to man but there doesn't seem to be a hex inside the tiny screws Do I have to drill them out, surely not !! Any advice Title: Re: 696 Screen advice please Post by: H2O on January 02, 2010, 06:20:22 PM The manual says to "remove the screws" for replace of screen. Not sure if it helps, but it does not say to drill them out! Must be an odd sized allen or even a torque head screw?

Year found the 4 x screws to remove the whole clear screen and painted housing, these are the 4 x tiny little screws(?) that hold the clear screen to the housing that are driving me nuts. Thanks for you input anyway Title: Re: 696 Screen advice please Post by: Raux on January 03, 2010, 12:13:50 AM no drilling.
take a picture of the pattern, can't remember if they are star or hex. but for certain it just screws off. parts manual says special screw, so i bet they are star heads. i'm too lazy to go to the garage through the snow, sorry. For the life of me I can't see any allen or hex inside the screws. I will post a photo after I get the tint done. Thanks for all the replies Title: Re: 696 Screen advice please Post by: stopintime on January 03, 2010, 01:22:58 AM Are you done yet? Come on - want to see 8)
No, no, take your time.... Just wanted to say that the best results I've seen are when the (spray?) tint was applied under/behind the screen. Good luck [thumbsup] Title: Re: 696 Screen advice please Post by: z0mb1e_DUC on January 07, 2010, 10:20:39 AM you do have to unmount the whole fairing. Then just hold the rubber grommets that are on the inside & use a TORX bit on the outside, it's a T10 I think. FYI, I just took a rattle can of flat black paint & painted the inside with two coats. Looks like it's a jet-black tint. Actually makes the speedo backlight show up better in lower light conditions, too.
