Title: 1990 SuperSport
Post by: LowThudd on January 05, 2010, 02:05:56 PM
I can't find much info on this bike. What do you know? It's a 904cc motor, but I assume it is different than the 900. How does it compare? Are parts available? Any good links?

First year for SS in the US was 1991.   There was a 1990 offered in other parts of the World..

I found a 90 for sale domestically. The guy hasn't set the price for it. Any idea what it's worth?

if it's in cherry condition with the original wheels (white) i would put it at around 5-6000.  that's CHERRY condition, and that means very well maintained with decent mileage on it.

typical shit condition - 2000 or so.  average 3000.

you need to look at the engine service history, the early due engines had a lot of issues.  they were fun tho.  the styling on the 89 and 90 900SS is from the sport nuovo and it's kicked around Ducati for years (they used it on the anniversary sedici with red/silver)..very nice looking bike, if you don't mind and don't want it, send me a link for it.

practically the same 900ss engine as all the other years.  has big valve heads with the old lube problem (low cam oil pressure).

I haven't heard back from the guy yet. Says it has some paint cracking, so not cherry. I'll try to get a deal for myself. If nogo I'll PM you the link. So, can a later 900 motor be transplanted? Are the heads interchangeable? Thanks for the info.

some more notes

the 89-90 models have the old style M1R forks too, same as on the 851 and Paso (although the 851 version are nicer, magnesium sliders)

basically the motor is the same as the Paso 906/907.  if you stay 100% factory, your choices are limited.  upgrading to a carbie 900ss 94-97 is a good idea but then it's no longer originali..

i believe the exhaust setup is the same as later models.

Gorgeous! I really like the old school look. Those are much better pictures than I've seen.

yeah, they stopped using the cool two tones in the early 90s.  the 750 SPort nuovo looked the same and they also had a red-blue version

that's a 750 Sport (nuovo), totally different from the 89-90 Supersport.  the 750 has a paso style engine (pantah), 16 inch wheels and originally came with a POS Weber DCNF car carb. it was a nicely styled abortion.

although I think the price is about right.  the biggest problem is the 16" tires, they are just not made anymore, same problem with the Paso 750.  Everything else is workable, swap the Weber carb with flatslides and it makes a great bike.  that condition is phenomenal.
