Title: "Headlight" Fairing for track use - replacing headlight? Post by: junior varsity on January 07, 2010, 01:27:16 PM I thought I had seen a fairing before (didn't see it in the old DP catalog pdf I have) that replaces the headlight for track use. Its like a headlight fairing, but instead of going above the headlight, it replaces the headlight too.
Can anybody help a brother out? Any ideas you have regarding this. If you search "Ducati Monster Race Fairing" you get the new style headlight fairing that is tall with slits cut in it. Not what I'm looking for at all. Here's an example of what I'm looking for, on an Aprilia Tuono: (http://kaemna.de/pic/katalog/at56race.jpg) (http://kaemna.de/pic/katalog/at56racedetail.jpg) http://kaemna.de/cms_en/katalog.htm?&view=artikel&artikel=1554 (http://kaemna.de/cms_en/katalog.htm?&view=artikel&artikel=1554) The idea I'm looking for is a front fairing to replace the headlight for track use that requires little-to-no modification of the bike. Just remove some parts, put it on, go play, go home and put it back together. Kind of a simple swap in and out. Or at least not as substantial a modification as figuring out how to mount a Supersport or Superbike fairing to the Monster. Title: Re: "Headlight" Fairing for track use - replacing headlight? Here's killerniceguy's S2R with a Sharkskinz Thruxton race fairing mounted up. He posted these pics in my thread about mounting a Thrux fairing with the Monster headlight. Don't think he'll mind that I post his pics here. ;)

Install is really quite easy, although the stock turn signals get in the way and will need to be relocated, or left off entirely while you're on the track. :) Title: Re: "Headlight" Fairing for track use - replacing headlight? Title: Re: "Headlight" Fairing for track use - replacing headlight? Post by: junior varsity on January 08, 2010, 04:38:49 PM i was thinking the same thing. Not sure if it would be a "direct" bolt up as much as the thruxton one. Going to have to investigate these when "the time is right" which is sometime between getting a ca-cycleworks track tank and going to the track.
Title: Re: "Headlight" Fairing for track use - replacing headlight? Post by: killerniceguy on January 09, 2010, 04:59:26 AM The Thruxton fairing is as close to a direct bolt up as one could get. I fabricated a small bracket to attach the bottom of the fairing to the bottom triple to hold it down. I used a couple pieces of aluminum bar from the headlight mounts to the drilled fairing holes to provide the necessary clearance for the clipons I was running. With the headlight and signal lights removed and stock bars it should bolt right up.

(http://www.motorapido.co.uk/tuningshop_images/bike.jpg) Just need to track down what its called and where to get it! Anyone? Title: Re: "Headlight" Fairing for track use - replacing headlight? Post by: killerniceguy on February 01, 2010, 02:00:47 PM That is from the S4 Cup race kit, it may have also been called the Monster Cup, I can't remember. It was run in Europe upon the intro of the liquid cooled monster. They are impossible to find and often big $$$ if you find one. There was a guy on the UK monster site with a complete set of the race kit body work including the belly pan, seat cowl and front screen. I would start my search over there.
Good Luck, KNG FOUND A PICTURE OF WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR: (http://www.motorapido.co.uk/tuningshop_images/bike.jpg) Just need to track down what its called and where to get it! Anyone? |
