Hi Everyone,
Just saying a quick hello from Vietnam. I've just pillioned my wife through 8 gruelling days in the mountains of the northwest of Hanoi on a 125cc Yamaha trail bike. Lots of hills, lots of gear changes and cramping clutch hand from 1000's of gear changes.
The homestays and families running them have been amazing. The food and riding is an amazing brain f%ck. We were that deep in the mountains that we felt like the only tourists in the whole of Vietnam for just about the enitre ride.
We have also done a cruise through Halong bay for the last few days and now learning how to cook some local food today before we jet back to Syd tomorrow.
I'll put some pics up once I get back home.
Sounds like like a bloody cool holiday! Looking forward to the pics [thumbsup]
Sounds like an awesome trip Brett...... [thumbsup]
So you cooking for the slide night when you get home then???????? [cheeky] [cheeky]
So did you make it to the floating bar in Halong Bay before the 8 days had elapsed?
Did D'arcy make it?

Oh my goodness. Was it a TTR125? Because if it was, you are a legend. I've got one of those things and the maximum speed on mine is about 80kms an hour. HOW FRUSTRATING. And you pillioned your wife? [bow_down] And don't you love it when you go to change up a gear and you find that there aren't any gears left? [bang] That is awesome!!!!!!!! You are awesome!!!!!!!!
Kaz
Sounds like a fantastic holiday. Might only have beenbetter if your wife actually rode her own bike :-X
Looking forward to the picts
Brett that sounds amazing!
I'll bring the bok choy and Oyster Sauce.
Here is just a sample, it was to hard to chosse from over 600 pics. Most of them were taken by my wife the co-pilot who I thought did a fantastic job whilst on the back of the bike.
Summary:
8 days on the bike, only encountered 6 tourists. Food and biking nirvana
3 days in Halong bay on a cruise to recover
3 days in filthy Hanoi which was a waste of time, but did a useful cooking class.
more can be seen on my facebook if anyone is interested.

Is this where you ride a bike wearing a bikini?
As I can't see photobucket from here I have to entertain myself in other ways ... sorry.

Thanks for sharing Brett. I take it Hanoi wasn't very good?
Great pics - I love the jumping donkey!!! [laugh] [laugh] [laugh]
Funny, I've just re-watched the top gear Vietnam episode.
That, coupled with your (awesome) pics, makes me want to start the planning on my own Vietnam 2 wheeled adventure.

Our guide was telling us that a lot of brits have come over since the airing of that episode to do the same route. They also do the whole "gift giving" thing too - blow up dolls, piniatas, large model ships etc etc. The photos were quite amusing.
