Title: What's it like being the passenger on the back of a Ducati Monster? Experiences
Post by: darkattackdog on May 28, 2008, 09:32:17 PM
I'd like to start a thread about passenger experiences on the back of a Ducati Monster?  Tell your experiences, road trips, pleasant comments, complaints, suggestions, tales on the road, etc.

I'm 5'2" and had to ride pillion on my bike one afternoon, talk about major knee cramping.  I had been pillion on a Supersport and it was waaayyyyy more comfortable.

I could spend a while describing the experience of riding cupcake on the back of msincredible's bike.....but lemme put it this way.

It's not a good plan to do if your passenger weighs more than you! It was verrryyyy unsteady. I hurt all over from it. Not pleasant at all.

I've seen women ride on a piece of seat material not much bigger than 2 brownies next to each other and not complain much for a  whole afternoon. I guess they must have there own cushion !!! I get a sore butt some days after only an hour if I'm on the super slab. Alot must have to do with how much they want to be there.

I'm fine for up to a couple of hours, I like the grab rails (more substantial than other sportbikes I've been on).

Like T-byrd, I had issues with knee pain on a longer twisty ride, although at the time I ascribed that to the knee armor in my leathers (not a perfect fit anyway) being set up for riding position, not passenger position.

Hmm, none of my other passengers complained (and they were all heavier).  Maybe it's just you? [cheeky]

Girl runs every yellow light 'cept for the one time I'm on the back of the bike.

When I had my first Monster a few years back, my wife took one look at the passenger seat...and laughed out loud.  She refused to even try it.  I eventually bought an ST2 that she found acceptable, but didn't ride much.

My fiancée rides pillion with me a bit.  She prefered the Monster to my GS1150  [thumbsup]

Here's her take after a 300ish mile ride in WV:  Small seat, but not really a problem.  Stretch breaks are crucial, at speeds past about 80, it feels like you're going to get sucked off the bike.  The oscilliation from hard cornering with overloaded rear suspension is a bit unnerving, but once you realize the pilot doesn't concern with it and deals with it you no longer really notice it.  The front end floating and pushing as a result of carrying a passenger can be unnerving also.

From my perspective on a spirited ride:
Passenger = front-end float, front end push over really bumpy ground, oscillation from rear spring being overloaded, rear tire wears very quickly  ~

Hmmm, the Monster seat is the largest one I've been on. ???  My first ride was on the back of an R1, the passenger seat on that thing is about the size of a postage stamp.

If a girl offered to give me a ride on her bike I would totally be up for it, it's cool.

Riding on the back of motorcycles, jet skis, snow mobiles, ATVs, sucks regardless.

Whatever chicks do on the dace floor does not negate the fact that two chicks on a monster in leathers is hot.

I am more than willing to admit that two "talented" chicks on a dance floor grinding up against one another is hot as well. Two not so "talented" chicks dancing with one another is a non-flirtatious mannor does not do much for me. So I guess we have to get into specifics about the whole dance floor situation which robably not worth the effort as we are on a Monster Forum not a forum on dancing.

Here's a hint. When the girls on the dance floor are dancing with each other.....

it's because they're avoiding dancing with you. Getting rejected by a room full of women is decidedly not hot.

Rode cupcake this morning with the belle.  We're just crazy out here in California...CRAZY! [cheeky]

One thing I do like about being a passenger is the view is great.  On a Monster, however, the curved seat makes you feel like you're sliding off the back.

Only if you're tall enough!  I can only see the back of a jacket. :(

I have short arms so in order to reach the passenger hand holds on the bf's monster I'd have to lean to one side, hunch forward, or arch back.  I have to hold onto him instead, which means I'm hunched a bit forward.  My back hates me after about 30 minutes.

He has a custom Corbin seat.  I've got plenty of room and the seat itself is relatively comfortable. I do seem to slip around a bit more than is probably comfortable for him.
