From Anthony at Desmoworks, he gave me a sweet deal. Also, titanium low head torx bolts to mount 'em to go with the other misc ti bolts. Title: Re: stop. Post by: muskrat on January 08, 2010, 04:08:41 PM so does it stop now? [roll]
Title: Re: stop. Post by: Samsonite on January 08, 2010, 04:18:02 PM I hope you ride like a bat outa hell with all the stuff on that thing
Title: Re: stop. Post by: muskrat on January 08, 2010, 04:20:54 PM I think he's spent enough to buy three monsters with all the goodies on that bike. Rizoma sure loves him. ;)
Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 08, 2010, 04:45:56 PM ha, lots has been used or through 'friends in the business/repeat customer' discounts.
and yes, i do flog the bike pretty good, but as of late i haven't found a rode near me worth taking the time to 'learn'. i blame both the flat countryside, being in the middle of the city of dallas, and not taking the initiative to find a good road. There's not a whole lot left I'm interested in doing to the bike, but some of the remaining bits are pretty spendy. Lightweight wheels, carbon tank (painted like current steel tank and filled with foam), fcr41's, hi-comp pistons or 944 kit and some head work. The labor on that one is the killer right now. I've done most everything myself over the years, or with help from Alain at Corse Motorsports who would show me how. Now Stuart's done a few things, like getting the new cables affixed for the quick turn throttle since it requires removing the airbox to remove the carbs to access the underside (they are center pull. awfully difficult to get in there and make the beast with two backs with it any other way). Title: Re: stop. Post by: fastwin on January 08, 2010, 06:20:44 PM Swanny has some great roads close by north of town towards Sherman/Dennison. Damned if I can't remember the road numbers. Pretty good twisties for this part of the world. I'll PM him or look on a map. This is why we go to Arkansas. Great roads are hard to come by in these parts and Colorado is too far.
Title: Re: stop. Post by: muskrat on January 08, 2010, 07:32:21 PM ah, we here in Oklahoma rides those all the time. travel North JV, travel North
Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 08, 2010, 07:32:47 PM Yeah, I was beginning to look into trailering it back to TN for a week or so, give me some opportunity to play in middle/east tn and NC. Northern Arkansas would be fun. I also need to go investigate this area down near the border with the big peak in SW TX as well, I read.
Title: Re: stop. Post by: Buckethead on January 08, 2010, 08:56:07 PM Nowhere in this thread is MC Hammer even mentioned.
I'm so disappointed in all of you. :-\ Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 09, 2010, 04:40:15 AM don't worry, i'm wearing those pants.
Title: Re: stop. Post by: alexisonfire on January 09, 2010, 06:08:40 AM iron or stainless? in any case, they look really good.

not that there's anything wrong with that Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 09, 2010, 08:38:47 AM thanks, they are more of a stainless, got some silver sequins from milli's bedazzler kit.

Those are the same roads I ride, just from a different direction. They are all found in and around the Whitewright/Ector/Bonham/Sherman area. Title: Re: stop. Post by: Pinocchio on January 09, 2010, 01:50:22 PM Sorry but brake bling won't stop you faster on a Duc than the OEM setup, which is already way overkill. I'd bet 'skrat could outstop you on his Hardly... [popcorn]
Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 09, 2010, 01:56:32 PM OEM was looking quite worn, and was a good bit heavier than this setup. That was the motivation to find an upgrade, but I was planning on putting it off quite awhile. Then Anthony got me a pretty good deal.

Post by: junior varsity on January 09, 2010, 03:18:13 PM on a goliath steel carrier, rotor dia still only 290mm probably...
Title: Re: stop. Post by: muskrat on January 09, 2010, 03:21:48 PM 1? On front? dual rotors baby and a rear that actually works too Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 09, 2010, 03:23:20 PM my ass end stops just fine. Just sometimes it chooses to do so before the front has stopped moving also, which creates an "exciting" situation.
Title: Re: stop. Post by: muskrat on January 09, 2010, 03:33:53 PM that's called a "power slide"
Title: Re: stop. Post by: fastwin on January 09, 2010, 05:44:46 PM That would be "Full Lock Power Slide" by Boz Skaggs... local Dallas boy. [thumbsup]
Title: Re: stop. Post by: TresGatos on January 09, 2010, 07:48:31 PM Rear brakes are for Motards. Work great on grassy
dells [thumbsup] Title: Re: stop. Post by: RichD on January 10, 2010, 11:47:32 AM ...Work great on grassy dells [thumbsup] ...that's why McCain wears out rear brakes on track days. [popcorn] Title: Re: stop. Post by: Samsonite on January 10, 2010, 11:50:05 AM [laugh]
Title: Re: stop. Post by: Jester on January 10, 2010, 12:33:49 PM Sorry but brake bling won't stop you faster on a Duc than the OEM setup, which is already way overkill. I'd bet 'skrat could outstop you on his Hardly... [popcorn] The monster line could use brake upgrades for sure... the older ones definately. The brakes on my S2R weren't very good at all and nowhere near approaching 'overkill'. They honestly weren't even good enough for stock imo. Not enough bite and faded under hard use. Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 10, 2010, 12:35:04 PM The upgraded master cylinder helps out tons I felt. After I changed pads, the brakes felt considerably better again. Now we are on to rotors. Last step, if I ever do it, would be the 6pot calipers.
Title: Re: stop. Post by: hiero on January 11, 2010, 04:16:33 AM collaborate and listen.

Title: Re: stop. Post by: alexisonfire on January 11, 2010, 09:46:43 AM 80s music is infinitely better than 90s. Just sayin.

Post by: junior varsity on January 26, 2010, 12:28:38 PM these won't be going on for some time. I'm going to gut and rebuild them first, which means waiting on the specialty tool to remove the piston caps (bore cap tool is essentially what I don't have, not the same was those on yamahas), the seal kit and some other small parts.
(http://lh6.ggpht.com/_4iYlZ1m8UEM/S19pUtjYynI/AAAAAAAAFOI/PbwkuuHL3nc/s800/IMG_2022.JPG) They weigh right at or under the OEM brembo's on the bike. My bike has the single pad set, single pin, 40mm mount. These use 3 sets of pads per caliper (6 total pads) and have some cool features in the design, such as cups to keep the pads from falling out if the rotor is there even if the pin has gone awol, very well built. This set came off an RC30 and they show a bit of use. Fine with me, you can rebuild them to new with just a little bit of time. Speaking of RC-30, there's an RC51 at Al Lamb's Honda for $7,999 for any of you that's interesting. It looks good. Title: Re: stop. Post by: hiero on January 26, 2010, 01:23:24 PM pretty
Title: Re: stop. Post by: muskrat on January 26, 2010, 01:25:12 PM those things are crooked :o
Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 26, 2010, 02:10:39 PM ? whatcha mean?
Title: Re: stop. Post by: muskrat on January 26, 2010, 02:27:41 PM is that a Gov patent design cause them crooked.
Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 26, 2010, 02:28:39 PM They follow the curve of the rotor, hoss.
Title: Re: stop. Post by: muskrat on January 26, 2010, 03:18:22 PM I know that, just giving you shyat :P
Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 26, 2010, 03:20:30 PM Well, knowing you, I thought you might actually have gotten confused with the mechanical nature.

Title: Re: stop. Post by: RED on January 26, 2010, 07:45:09 PM 8 g's sounds a little high unless it's a no-milage bike. I've seen some nice ones around last year for 5-6k$.
I'd much rather have the RC-30 though. Heck, I'd take a '74 450 twin. :-\ Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 27, 2010, 04:24:23 AM i just always thought the RC51 sounded fantastic and was the most fun a person could have on a Honda that didn't have knobby tires.
Title: Re: stop. Post by: muskrat on January 27, 2010, 04:26:21 AM I'll have to agree with Josh. The RC51 is Honda's best bike IMO.
Title: Re: stop. Post by: junior varsity on January 27, 2010, 04:52:33 AM Too bad its gone now. I'd like to have one in the garage.
Title: Re: stop. Post by: RED on January 27, 2010, 04:56:54 AM Too bad its gone now. I'd like to have one in the garage. Agreed with you both. If money were no object I'd have a bigger stable than a museum!! |
