Title: Question: Hitch mounted bike holders Post by: zLoki on January 11, 2010, 11:09:47 PM Question for anyone that has a hitch-mounted bike trailer like this - http://www.ramp-warehouse.com/versahaul-single-motorcycle-carrier-with-ramp-option-vh55-p-926.html?osCsid=40f98068eca160c49fa3dddeb0718d10 (http://www.ramp-warehouse.com/versahaul-single-motorcycle-carrier-with-ramp-option-vh55-p-926.html?osCsid=40f98068eca160c49fa3dddeb0718d10)
Getting the bike on(and off) the trailer - is that a one man job or do you need at least two people? Looks like two but I want to be sure. Considering one for my FJ but if I always have to have a buddy around, I might just go for a trailer with wheels and deal with the speed limit restrictions. Thanks Title: Re: Question: Hitch mounted bike holders Post by: stopintime on January 12, 2010, 12:14:08 AM One man job to get it on, but then you'd need another couple of arms to hold it while strapping it down I guess.
Me, I wouldn't trust this to hold my bike safely. It's one single attachment and the movement of the bike will put a lot of stress on that point? Further more, it's bad for the car's weight distribution to add more than 20-30kg to the rear - this solution adds ~250 :o Bye, bye front wheel control? Just my 0.02 Title: Re: Question: Hitch mounted bike holders Post by: muskrat on January 12, 2010, 05:18:22 AM about the same price of a utility trailer at Harbor Freight or Northern Tools, hell even Home Depot. I would go with a trailer unless you plan on throwing a dirt bike on it and that's as far as I would go. I've seen several up close and the only one I'd feel comfortable with is the ones the Prevosts have on the back-end receiver with hydraulic lift and all (lots of dough).
