Title: The fleet grows by one
Post by: mostrobelle on January 13, 2010, 09:13:39 PM
...actually, by a 7, a 4 and an 8.

I always said I'd never get another Ducati for the track, that it was stupid and irresponsible...but that describes most of my motorcycle-related past.  I figure I'm nothing if not consistent.  She's not much to look at right now, but it's got an 853 kit (big bore pistons, Remus exhaust, and a map) with two races on it, a slipper clutch, Ohlins suspension in the rear, front forks revalved and sprung for someone within 20 lbs of my weight, Red Bull can overflow catcher.  The plastics are a little rashed up and need some work.  The left front fairing is missing.  Etc. etc. etc.  I'm looking forward to digging into this a little and making it purdy.  I've always wanted a 748...

Behold, my new trackbike:
(guy selling it has it at Desmoto for storage--that's not my garage, in case anyone's wondering.   [cheeky])

I feel sexier just holding the title.  I'll bring it home in a few weeks probably.  It's not street legal so the Monster is still my first love for tearing up the twisties.  Speaking of which, we need to go ride.  Someone organize something.   [moto]

Congrats.  I think.

Are there parts included that are not in the pic?

Congrats!

But, um, it looks like it's at Desmoto for a little more than storage.

Backstory:  Bike has been raced for a couple of seasons by the previous owner.  He bought it in 2001 off of someone else.  (It's a 99)  From the service records, he came into Desmoto every several weeks and would buy new farkle for it.  His latest thing was the 853 kit.  He did two races on it and crashed.  He is giving it up to upgrade for next season IIRC and was keeping it at Desmoto while he was out of the country on vacation I believe for several weeks.  I went into Desmoto to buy oil filters and crush washers the other day and at Enzo's recommendation asked if they had a bead on any track bikes for sale.  They pointed me to this.  This is pretty ideal for me--needs cosmetic work, but everything else is in great shape, so the price was right.  I know it looks a little rough around the edges, but that's about the only way I could have ever gotten one of these bikes.  Besides, it's for the track.  And the painting project will be fun.  The only other thing that I know I need to do is get new tires.

Just needs cosmetic work?  Really?  Where is the tank, rearset, bodywork, grip, fairing stay, seat, instrument cluster and airbox?  And are the chain and sprocket rusted to shit or is it just that pic?  Is the water pump housing ok? (doesn't look like it from the rag).  Has the frame been checked?

OK Debbie Downer:  The missing stuff is on a shelf beside the pict at the shop.  The frame is on its way to GP Frame to get checked, but it doesn't look like it got  scratched from the crash.

Let's hope so!   [laugh]

Nah, you'll get to enjoy your bike instead of watching someone else ride it for the first several months you have it. :-\
