Title: The "Sugar" Scam....... Sugar is Sold....... Sad day.... Post by: Big T on January 16, 2010, 09:23:06 PM MMMmmmm I posted my S4RT on BikePoint and have had an interesting response.
Link to Sugar on BikePoint (http://www.bikepoint.com.au/all-bikes/private/details.aspx?R=3148149&__sid=11DB97DDC0C9&__Qpb=true&Cr=0&__Ns=p_RankSort_Int32%7c1%7c%7cp_Make_String%7c0%7c%7cp_Model_String%7c0%7c%7cp_YearMade_Int32%7c1%7c%7cp_PriceSort_Decimal%7c1&keywords=&__N=1432%20604%201430%201429%201428%204294967242%204294966691&seot=1&__Nne=15&trecs=4&silo=1400) Then got an email from Zach at moo2cum-b@yahoo.com We swapped a few emails then this: Just wanted to make sure all bases are covered I will purchase at the listed price and payment will be sent using PayPal and i will be needing your email with PayPal for payment or you could send me an invoice(ill handle the PayPal surcharge, you just let me know).Make sure you get back to me so that we can arrange for pick up as i will like the item to be picked as i am out of town at the moment.. I await your reply. Thanks So I then sent this: Hi Zach Hey could you please send me your mobile phone number so I can give you a buzz to discuss the deal / PayPal arrangements. I will also need your full name and address for the invoice. Thanks for your business. Trevor Then this: You will be deregistering the car,as i will be using it out of the country and my name is Zach Moore, current phone number +2348064505810,if you dont mind calling international,as i am overseas at the moment Thanks I rang the number and "Zach" answered and wants to purchase the bike and send it to Russia. Told him I will only deal with a person in Australia (as if that is going to happen... :P )..... So this is the last I deal with Zach and his mates...... [evil] [evil] OOohhh and this from BikePoint: Scam Alert: Please be aware that there is a phishing scam running currently with some buyers only operating through their Pay Pal account. If the buyer advises that they do not have internet banking and have a pick up agent then this is not a legitimate enquiry. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: mattyvas on January 16, 2010, 10:00:36 PM Mo-Farkers!
Hope you get a real buyer. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: FIFO on January 16, 2010, 10:08:43 PM Yeah seen this type of scam talked about on other 4wd forums. Been going on for ages. allways thieves out there. [evil] Did see a guy had a web page up a few years back on how to screw these guy back. good fun if you have the time. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: Six95 on January 16, 2010, 10:13:59 PM Good luck with the sale Trev.
Makes you appreciate the bling effort when it's all spelled out. That's an extensive list. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: Spider on January 16, 2010, 10:27:37 PM this came up one another site and EVERY person that had their bike on bikepoint had the scam...usually they are 'aussies' working offshore on fishing vessels and oil rigs and they are definitely paying you what you want....you'll receive funds in your paypal and an agent will pick the bike up!
phuckers. people suck. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: Dannog on January 17, 2010, 01:40:10 AM I heard about this happening to a guy on for a bicycle sale (expensive bike) some how they reverse the paypal deal after you've sent the the item or in your case picked it up. Moral of the story don't leave money in paypal account as they cna just reverse the transaction or freeze your account!
Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: CairnsDuc on January 17, 2010, 11:52:38 AM I get about 4 to 5 a day since I listed the Monster asking for my PayPal account, I have now changed the listing to say NO PAYPAL.
Or am I being to cautious and blocking legit buyers by saying no Paypal? It just scares me how many horror stories you see with people using PayPal, lost money, buyers telling lies, and the only people who win is the buyer and Paypal. Also even if you get the money out of the PayPal account, there have been a number of occasions when the Police have turned up on the doorstep to take the money back as the money is stolen, so bike is gone and money is gone also. Don't know how true it is, but it sounds realistic. I wonder how many people have tried to Scam the Scammer, take the money and then give a false address for the pickup or simply not make the bike available.....Just sayin.. :P Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: Dannog on January 17, 2010, 01:51:33 PM I think that Paypal works well for ebay. generally small transactions but more importantly you get to see the buyers (or sellers) history. It takes a while to get a reputation and history of good transactions and if there is any issues you simply don't do a deal with them.
I wouldn't have thought Paypal is the way to go when selling your bike. the fees are just too much. I've always used cash and not had a problem. I used a bank cheque to by my last bike from Frasers but i wouldn't accept a bank cheque from an individual I didn't know or trust. Its a bit scary having $20K in your pocket but the alternate of having nothing is more worrying. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: CairnsDuc on January 17, 2010, 02:00:52 PM I've had 3 scammers this morning, Will pay more than the listed price, PayPal only, I am overSeas, Pickup agent will collect it....
Usual Bullshit scratch that, just had number 4! What I want to know, is how many people fall for this bullshit? Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: CairnsDuc on January 17, 2010, 02:04:58 PM Hey Big T, that is the Email address (Moo2cum) that just approached me to buy my bike, He must like collecting bikes [roll]

Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: Big T on January 17, 2010, 10:16:58 PM Hey Big T, that is the Email address (Moo2cum) that just approached me to buy my bike, He must like collecting bikes [roll] Hey CairnsDuc just got another "Collector" who wants to use PayPal.... Name: Kelvin Simpson Postcode: 3233 Mobile Phone: 0400 300 900 Email: kelly080simp@gmail.com Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: FIFO on January 17, 2010, 11:50:56 PM I have had nothing but good results when using Paypal. When I'm selling something via ebay, I try to avoid receiving payment vis Paypal as they skim a bit of my sale price for themselves (I know this already and it is as per the agreement). When I do receive a payment for goods sold, I DO NOT send the package away until I have successfully transfered the funds from my paypal account INTO MY BANK ACCOUNT. Then, and only then, am I 100% satisfied that they payment is finalised. Ebay and Paypal seem to have now made it virtually impossible to conduct transactions via ebay without using Paypal. This isn't really a problem (in my book), so long as usual due care is taken in completing the transaction. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: heatherp on January 18, 2010, 12:08:27 AM So Rob does that mean you would sell your bike to Mr MooScum from Russia? Sounds like he is attempting to collect many Oz Ducati. (oops spelt his name wrong [cheeky]) (hmn mooscum - bullshit, maybe I should stop doing cryptic crosswords ;D)
I haven't had any problems with Paypal either but I've only bought small items from O/S. And one not so small item within Oz. Haven't tried selling anything. If something sounds too good to be true - it is. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: FIFO on January 18, 2010, 12:27:59 AM Not good to hear of Big t and Cairns duc contact with Paypal, but, with all respect, they can hardly be held accountable for scams done in their name.
I would not respond to unregistered paypal users. Obviously there are those (Mr Mooscum)that will try to scam, & you have correctly assessed this lot at this time, so well done. Anyone buying a high priced item unseen should be treated with suspicion in my book. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: heatherp on January 18, 2010, 12:42:30 AM Certainly makes selling a bike on the internet rather scary. I didn't have any scammers after my 750 Kawasaki when I sold it on Bikepoint. [roll] Although it probably would have been better suited to Russian road conditions. ;D
Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: CairnsDuc on January 18, 2010, 09:34:14 AM The only problem is Rob, is that I have read of horror stories of the Police turning up weeks/months after the sale has gone through and the money extracted from PayPals account,
advising you have received stolen goods (or in this case money) and it has to be returned. Money gone + Bike gone = Sore Bunghole! Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: Serious Groper on January 18, 2010, 02:15:31 PM Any nice bike for sale brings out the dikheds. I had issues with both the MV and Aprilia and had to deal with scammers galore.
The most brazen attempt was on the Aprilia. I never allow test rides without the full cash in my hand (my policy doesn't cover test rides so check yours people!). He said he'd buy it and give a deposit to ride which i refused. He said he would think about it, never called back. Essentially the scam is pay a deposit for a test ride then rack off with the bike. Bang, they get a bike for $2k which they rebirth or use as a track bike. If they were smart, you would bring friends with own bikes/cars and use them on your escape route so if the person chased, you could have fodder (obviously fake plates) to slow you down and they get away. Piece of cake. *When having someone view the bike. Put a wheel lock on! When the bike is started and they are sitting on it, 1st gear and bye bye bike. Thieves won't worry to much about putting on proper safety gear if they've just stolen a bike. Unfortunately 100% of my bad experiences are with the 1 'type' of person. Mind you that is from roughly 20 instances, all of them bad. So i no longer deal with that 'type' as it's to risky. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: CairnsDuc on January 18, 2010, 02:19:49 PM I agree with you Groper, No cash, no touch.
Seen to many test rides go badly wrong, Crash the bike, seller loses out. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: Big T on January 20, 2010, 01:40:20 AM Well things are looking up...... [thumbsup]
Got a guy flying in from Hobart on Saturday for the day to have a look. Had several conversations with him and he asked all the right questions..... [thumbsup] And Got a mate of a mate here in Sydney who is coming round tomorrow night for a look..... [thumbsup] And NO mention of PayPal so far..... But no cash in the bank yet so "Sugar" is still for sale....... I'm going to miss Sugar and the Virgins..... :'( :'( :'( :'( Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: mattyvas on January 20, 2010, 06:34:04 AM Can there be a condition on the sale that you rent it back for a day on Feb 13th?
After all it's your bucks ride with ride along Sally as your companion Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Post by: Dannog on January 20, 2010, 01:46:27 PM That'd be different, we go for a final ride with Trev and he has to use the pushie

Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Sugar is Sold....... Sad day.... Post by: heatherp on January 22, 2010, 07:12:37 PM Like Matty said - good and sad news :'( Have you signed up for grief counselling yet?
Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Sugar is Sold....... Sad day.... Post by: Betty on January 22, 2010, 07:26:10 PM Grief counselling, but he's not even married yet!
Oh wait ... you mean Sugar. Yep sad day Big T, but one less (I can't quite bring myself to say 'thing') item on the list (err, it seems so clinical). But if needed for Big T's Bucks Ride we could probably organise for you and "little Paella ice cream boy" to borrow Lillie ... but you'll need to be gentle. I think I would be a bit worried coming across Sugar in different hands ... for a bike known for cleanliness and associations with virgins I would be concerned that she may turn into a dirty whore ... but maybe that is not an entirely bad thing. Title: Re: The "Sugar" Scam....... Sugar is Sold....... Sad day.... Post by: Betty on January 22, 2010, 07:27:24 PM I went too far didn't I. Sorry, its become a bit emotional here again.
