Title: Jack Points on Monster 620?
Post by: positivecarry on January 18, 2010, 07:35:32 AM
If I was going to jack up my bike using a motorcycle jack, where should I position the jack plates?

How do you guys get your bike on front and rear stands, btw?

depends on what you want to do. but a good jack position is hte front nut on the header, or on the header it self. or if the exahust is off, the engine block it self.

Yes, that's my question. I haven't bought them yet, so maybe it's self explanatory when you have them in front of you, but I was trying to think of how you get each side of the bike lifted to get onto the stand.

Lifting Ducati Monster with Pitbull Rear Handle Stand (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo6QnM-L-d8&feature=related#normal)

As you can see, you don't need to jack up the bike to put it on a stand.  Front and rear is the same idea: 1. position stand (under swing arm, under spools, under the forks, under the steering stem) 2. push down on handle, and voila, bike on  stand.

BTW Get a buddy to help the first couple times, it can be tricky until you get the hang of it.

Remember, if you want to use a front stand, you have to put the bike on a rearstand first!

well using only a front stand ain't real stable. not sure how one would go from "on sidestand" to "up, off sidestand, front end in the air," have you been doing it?

me thinks execution of such a move would certainly require two people.

I've been doing it with no issues-I don't see why there would be any difference in stability-either way, you have one wheel off the ground.....

hmm. i believe when i bought my CC front stand it stated it was not to be used without a rear stand. If it works, by all means. I keep the bike on stands most of the time when i'm not riding it anyhow. Makes it easy to spin the tire around and check air pressure before rides.

Why?

because most people forget the front stand can shift left and right. so if you dont have hte bike dead center and both wheels dont lift from the point of contact the front ill turn and the bike will fall.

Ive had to save the bike a few times because i had to get the bike up and had no rear stand.
