Title: Clutch issues
Post by: twinflyer17 on January 19, 2010, 08:33:35 AM
So the clutch on my M900 seems to act very weird from a start, and especially on hill starts. It is clear when the clutch is released and begins to grab, however, the grab is very rough and short; it doesn't grab smoothly like a typical clutch should. New Barnett clutch plates were installed last spring, however, the clutch basket was not replaced. Could a warn out basket possibly cause it to not grab correctly??? I also have been told there could possibly be air in the line, and if i bleed it it should solve the problem...I am at a loss of ideas on what to do, and where to start. If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know!! Thanks!

How many miles on that clutch basket?

When the baskets get fairly worn, they do get 'grabby'.

I believe the basket is original, meaning it would have 19k on it. It does rattle very much though and seems as if it is clearly worn. My old man has a 748s that we replaced the clutch plates and basket on this summer and the clutch did grip, and sound, completely different afterwords...

At 19k it's probably pretty worn. It's easy enough to have your plates out and look at the edges of the basket teeth.

If the Barnett plates are aluminum, that might have something to do with it as well

Thanks for the feedback. I will definitley take a look at the plates and also the teeth on the basket!
