Title: My new ride!
Post by: trinity on January 20, 2010, 07:15:21 PM
Well I bought a new Monster; 2004 M800 with lots of bling & only 5400 kms on the clock. If I could attach pics I'd show you, he is sooooo hot! Wasn't planning on upgrading but this bike caught my eye again & again, seemed to be just waiting for me. So it was a sad goodbye to the M600 & a great big grin after riding the new one home. Can't wait to get to Tassie & spend 2 weeks of quality time & roads getting to know him.

Bling:

Alloy bar clamps
Billet alloy laser etched reservoir caps
Rizoma bullet indicators - front
Rizoma fat bar
Ducati Performance LED mirrors, it came with Rizoma mirror, right hand only & I can't ride like that so it's off & replaced with the mirrors from the 600.
Oxford Sports Hot Grips (blasphemy I know but, I removed Rizoma grips that were on it cos I like my fingers to be toasty warm)
Carbon fibre front guard
Carbon fibre air intakes
Carbon fibre sprocket cover
Carbon fibre side covers
Remus Grand Prix carbon fibre slip ons
Ventura rack
Mad Dr integrated LED tail light assembly
The rear end has been modified & made tight & tidy

I am one happy woman  [moto]

Congratulations on the new bike, you must be rapt.

Thats low kays for a 2004, have you taken "him" on a big ride yet?

Do you need a Ventura bag for the rack?  ;)

Well done trinity, whats your plan for the M600?

I am so rapt I've been smiling for weeks; signed the deal 2 weeks ago but then went on holidays so didn't get him til Tuesday this week. No big ride as yet, hopefully the weather will oblige this weekend & Tuesday, new rear tyre needs scrubbing in & I need to get to know him before hitting Tassie for Turismo. Can't wait to get into the twisties on him.

I have a couple of Ventura bags, thanks.

I traded the M600; she was a great bike but getting on in years & kms (138,000 but she had a 680 kit installed at 100,000km)) needed a bit of tlc/cash spent on her; new rear tyre, 40,000 km service, clutch was playing up. I was happy with the trade in price but sad to leave her behind.

Thanks guys.

Spider - Has, what I have been told, is a custom paint job; gloss black with orange stripes (1 fat, 1 skinny) running along the tank & seat cowl on the right hand side.

Paul - Yeah I am looking to sell the grips & the Rizoma right hand mirror, if any one is interested. Both are black, I'd put up pics but for some reason don't seem to be able to! Is it me?

Hi Trinity
Congrats on the new bike.  Can't wait to see it at turismo.  When are you catching the ferry over?

Most of us struggle to post pics at first.  I found this thread really helpful:
http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=109.0 (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?topic=109.0)

You have to host your pics somewhere like flickr or photobucket.  Go down a few posts in the thread and somegirl explains it really well.

Thanks heatherp will have a look at that later & get some pics up, although none of them do the bike justice  ;)

On the ferry sat night (6th Feb) coming home fri 19th Feb. What about you?

On the ferry sat night (6th Feb)

There are a few of us on that ferry (including Heather). This Turismo thing is turning into a bit of a girl's ride.

Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Oh yeah ... and congrats on the new bike!

Enjoy.

Title: Re: My new ride!
Post by: Spider on January 22, 2010, 10:56:45 PM

I got em....they are good except some people (more like their bikes) have an interesting thing happen with the throttle control...the back of that cable holding black tab isn't high enough and it kind of slips inside the housing and gets a notch in it....other people and their bikes don't have this problem....what it means is the throttle rolls forward too far and you can feel the notch. You get used to it, but it's not perfect!

Don't think anyone has worked out which bikes have the problem and which ones are fine!

Title: Re: My new ride!
Post by: loony888 on January 22, 2010, 11:14:52 PM
yeah, i've had a bit of a snoop and there seem to be some questions about the throttle cam,  [roll]some say they're not very comfortable as well? are there fitment issues to deal with? some say they're 10mm shorter than std ones and i have to move the controls or chop my bars. :o

paul

Title: Re: My new ride!
Post by: Betty on January 22, 2010, 11:30:53 PM
D) all of the above

We both have them on our bikes - well they look the same but their nomenclature has changed. Jukie has had no problems but we put a new bar on hers at the same time.

With mine I seemed to get a bit of 'slack' in the throttle ... blamed it for a couple of stalls ... Julie couldn't quite get it right for me but was fixed at the last service and has been good since.

Yes I had to move the controls a little and have a few 'gaps'. Comfort is obviously a personal thing ... but they are solid with not much rubber so they don't have much in-built vibration damping.

thanks betty, so the twistgrip side leaves about 10mm of bar exposed? if it does i can mount my crg there, as for the lhs can i move the switchblock out?
sorry for the hijack trinity, don't mean to turn it into a rizoma thread, especially since you removed them for toasty heated ones!
betty,
can you give me some idea where i can buy rizoma here in oz? i'd like a pair of their barends to match.

paul

Post by: Betty on January 23, 2010, 01:08:10 AM
Loony, if you have done some snooping around here you are probably more familiar with the issues than I am (its been a couple of years now). I think we drilled another whole in the bar and moved things on the right side ... left side we moved things along to get a bit of balance - but it is all a bit gappy on my bike. I have the conical bar ends which have a little 'lip' which covers a tiny bit of the end of the bar too.

The 10mm sounds about right it seems the intention was (with the shorter grips) to make allowance for bar end mirrors which I don't have. Not sure if they would suit the conical bar ends though (there are other types).

We bought our stuff from PJs in the US, couldn't find any local stockists at the time. I know there was somebody who has since started stocking the Rizoma stuff down here but I am not sure who it was ... I am sure one of the true bling junkies can help you out.

I think we need more photos of Trinity's new beau to get things back on track ;D

Hijack away!

I'll put them up in the correct (trading) thread along with the mirror if you don't want them Paul.

I'm not much help but I test rode with them & kinda liked how they felt; smaller (I'm used to fat heated  ones remember  ;) ), very grippy & kinda firm, to use girlie terminology not so squishy! As for the fit my bar is a Rizoma & there was no gap issue. I loved how they looked but I ride all year round & really like the Hot Grips.

P.S. I feel a bit wrong sticking things up for sale when I've been here five minutes but I do plan on hanging around.

i wouldn't worry about that, you're feeding someones bling addiction and it expands on topics someone sooner or later will want to know about so it's all a good thing.
you might want to post them in the for sale section, after pulling my switchblocks apart and seeing how they're located i'd have to drill my bars and move them so i'm going to pass on them, thanks for posting the pics, they do look great.

paul.

Nice bike Trin. Is that an old SS front guard?  Love that look [thumbsup]  Didn't think they fitted the later monsters...

Anyone know if the 90s style SS CF front guard will fit my 2001 900 Sie?

Cheers

Andy

<edit> OK done some research and maybe its a 748/996 guard?

Like this

Guard mounts on that 748s Showas look similar to mine...

Anyone enought thread hijacking.....as mentioned, nice bike Trin.  Love the old logo on the tank!

I believe it's a 916 guard.

No probs Paul, will post them up there with the mirror. Also have Bgaster tank bra & bag from the 600 & some other bits & pieces, so need to get my ass into gear & take some pics.

Went for my first ride today, had to be short & sweet (200k round trip) cos I have to go out now but, OMG OMG OMG! Marysville for coffee & by the time I got there my face hurt from grinning  ;D

I believe you are looking for a pre 749/999 sbk fender, or one from an ST2/3/4.
If you want one in Red, let me know I have one!

damn! myself and JC did a nice loop and lunch in Marysville (won't happen again - but that's a different story). Great day out fantastic roads....although JC and I did something exciting/stupid (hard to tell the difference sometimes) and ended up on 8km of swooping gravel roads.

We'll have to go again!  [thumbsup]
