Title: Website setup for dummies..
Post by: TAftonomos on January 23, 2010, 08:45:53 AM
So I've had enough people suggest that I need my own website... and with the 4 bikes I just picked up to start the part-out/parts biz, they are probably right.

What do I need/don't need?  I'm not interested in having a forum on my site.

I get lost with all the options at go-daddy.com, webhosting, etc.

150gb space/1500gb transfer going to be too much, not enough? (6$ a month)

What about paying $30 for something called "search engine visability" ?  Is this something that actually inserts the meta-tags into my page so google and other engines pick them up?  I know what meta tags are, but it's been a LONG time since I screwed around with any kind of html, and I was half asleep in the computer classes I took years ago in college.

I'll be selling a bunch of used parts (hopefully....I'm trying to get away from ebay) on the site, as well as the parts that I make.

Thanks in advance for any help!

if you're gonna be selling stuff...you should get a complete package with store, web design software and hosting.
here's a good review

i'm working on two sites right now. a godaddy info one for the design business and a full commerce site for Desmo Manufaktur here in Germany.

If you are just doing used parts and not trying to setup a continual parts department you can do a simple site and then do some sort of paypal interaction. there are also yahoo stores available for low costs that can handle scaleable product lines. i know someone who is using it to sell bikes online.
