Title: Rear Master Cylinder Question
Post by: djrashonal on January 24, 2010, 08:35:44 AM
So my Rear MC is shot on my 01 S4, and I gotta replace it. My question is, do i need to replace it with the one that has both ports on the top like whats on my bike now:

or can i use this one:

are there any pros/cons to using different ones? Is one better than another? thanks for the help

If you change the style you may have to change the brake line.

I don't know of any advantage to one type or other.

AFAIK the internals are the same, it's just a different outlet position.  As DP said, you're probably on the hook for a different rear line. The good news is that you can probably find a stock line to fit that arrangement 2nd hand, pretty cheap.

Yeah, notice the gold master requires a 90-deg banjo. If you don't see one quickly on eBay, it will cost you between 55 and 65 to get some braided spiegler. Ordered three of those lines from them in the past as various changes were implemented and such.

The gold-line master shown in your second pic was what your bike originally came with, AFAIK.

As others have said, unless you want to buy another brake line, get the same style as you've got now.
