Title: Front and rear axle sliders?
Post by: DucNaked on January 24, 2010, 02:29:34 PM
I was wondering if these really added any protection to the bike or are they just for show?  I just ordered some Motovation frame sliders, should I think about axle slider also?

What bike do you have?   I had a set of Motovation front and rear sliders, along with the frame sliders on my 696. I was able to transfer the frame slider and front axle sliders to my 1100 when I traded up.  When I had my 696, I dropped it on its side at a standstill.  It was not a hard drop as I held the bike as long as I could before finally having to set it down.  There was only a little mark on the frame slider and the front axle slider.  The rear sliders did not touch the ground.  Another benefit of the rear sliders is putting it up on a rear stand, using the spool adapter....seems more secure.  Maybe at speed, the axle sliders would help more but I do not know. The sliders seem like kinda cheap insurance and peace of mind.  I do not see them as being "bling".

If you have a 696, I still have the Motovation rear sliders and I am trying to sell them since I can't use them anymore.  PM if you are interested.

I have the CycleCat frame sliders and I've dropped my bike more times than I care to remember.  They work great, and like He Man's, my forks never touched the ground.  For the rear, you may want to consider installing a set of spools on the swingarm.

Thanks for the info guys. I have the 1100 so the 696 spools won't work, thanks anyway.
What did you wind up using on the rear of your 1100? I didn't see any on motovations site, I may have missed them.

there are SSS Sliders, but i dont recommend them if you throw your bike on the lift often. you need to take them out and then put them back in eh. not worth the hassle. plus the 3 times ive been down after i powdercoated my swingarm, theres not even 1 scratch on it.

Unless you get someone to make them so you can use a spool-type stand on the rear :)

I have nothing there now.  I saw Rizoma has one, not cheap and seems too short for any kind of protection.  I'm not going to worry about it.

i had a pretty serious lowside into a rail and my front lower forks and swingarm didnt get touched. my rearset, bar end sliders, tankskin, seat cover and pipes took most of the scratching.
sometimes i wonder if the frame sliders create a condition where the axles are the other points of contact thereby creating their need.
