Title: Critical Termi tuning question?
Post by: CCEMN1 on January 26, 2010, 12:43:46 PM
Critical Termi tuning question?
I just bought a used 2007 S4RS. I also purchased a used full Termi system, with pipes, ECU and filter, from a guy who had them installed and working on his own S4RS.
I've owned about 40 bikes in my 60 years on this planet, and because this is my very first Duc, I've been paying very close attention, to learn about these amazing pieces of machinery.
When I took the bike into my local Ducati dealer to have the belts replaced, I inquired about doing the Termi install myself. The service manager then told me that I would have to bring the bike in, after the install, to have the TPS reset and the fuel/air mixture adjusted. Something I distinctly remember him saying would be about an hour labor! They also suggested I truck the bike in the 15 miles to the shop, as opposed to riding it in.
After doing the install, I fired the bike up and drove it down my street a couple times, only putting about a half mile on the newly installed pipes, filter, & ECU, but to my surprise, everything was working fine, she idled nice & ran like a bear! Possibly because it was already set up on another S4RS??
I trucked the bike into the shop this morning. When I picked it up this evening, I was told that they thought I only wanted a TPS reset, and didn't do the “tuning” as they now called it?!
I was then told that the tuning could possibly take hours, and would probably run hundreds of dollars!
My question is; Am I getting jerked around here? Is there a possibility the service manager didn't know it would take hours to do the tune, and misquoted me on the estimate, or are they just trying to milk me?

Bump, If these guys were trying to scam me, which it's looking more & more like that was the case, I want to expose them & warn others!

If they were talking about CO trim, not hours or hundreds of dollars.  If they were talking tuning, which would mean valve adjustment, throttle synch etc or adding a power commander, then, yes, $$$ and hours.  Make sure you are talking about the same thing, "tune" is a big word.

it usually takes me 1/2 - 3/4 of an hour to do an ecu fit and set up on a s4rs.  which is tps reset and idle mixture in each header.
