Let's see what everyone's current favorite/all-time favorite/local/whatever beer is.
For me, I love Sam Adams' new Noble Pils.
If you like a nice, hoppy beer, give it a try. It's a seasonal brew so who knows how long it will be around....
I used to really like Sam Adams White Ale. Too bad they don't brew it anymore. Sam Adams Summer is good for US Domestic wheat brews. Same for Shocktop. A little too orangey, though. Thats the problem with US brews, too fruity.
Nothing beats a good witbier, weissbier, Hefeweizen, kristallweizen.
Sam also makes a good one called Blackberry Witbier...
I like beer.
[drink]
but if I had to pick... other than guinness... isle of skye's wee beast is pretty frickin' awesome.
+1 on the noble pils, we just got that in about a week ago, it's tasty!
Guinness is the no brainer. Drink it all the time. It's the one thing I know I can get at a lot of places on tap...

sounds like i should take my guinness elsewhere [drink]
Dogfish Head Chicory Stout.....oh yeah!
I wouldn't go that far, there are people that {gasp} don't like Guinness.
Let's keep it open to any beer you like, but I really want to hear about beers that aren't necessarily as common, even foreign beers not available in the U.S.

you can leave it with me and chris for safe keepin' ;D
I'll even wash and return the empty glass... ;D
Maritime beers are my favorite. They're a local Seattle brewery. In Fall for about 3 weeks they have an XPA...it's an IPA dry hopped with fresh (not dried as usual) hops. It is awesome.
They also always have 2 selections on cask at their brew pub. I always get what they have on cask (usually a Pale and an IPA) when I'm there...cask is the best IMO. The Red Hook brewery also has usually 2 cask selections.
http://maritimebrewery.ypguides.net/ (http://maritimebrewery.ypguides.net/)
For rare beers...I had Guiness Bitter back when my parents were living in Germany. My mom found it in the store and sent me a 4 pack. I've never seen it or heard of it since...even took a can to the local liquor store to see if he could order it...no luck. It was in their standard cans, but the can was green. Good stuff...similar to Boddingtons IIRC, but its been a while.
i have been bouncing back and forth between Bells two hearted and Sierra Nevada Torpedo.
I also consume way too much of the local brew, Lakefront
http://www.lakefrontbrewery.com/main.html (http://www.lakefrontbrewery.com/main.html)
Boddingtons is good but hard to find around here. For everyday beer I'm good with Long Trail, made in VT.
Oh ya and Guinness.
Long Trail makes a very good selection of beer. As with most of the smaller breweries, I find the seasonal beers the best. Of course, because you can't get them all the time...
Firestone Walker DBA. Good stuff, and available most everywhere. And this time of year Widmer Burrr Seasonal Ale is REALLY good.
Saranac had a great Oktoberfest this year...

It was my first taste of beer. And now it's not sold where I live so of course I want it.
Alternatively, I go for the other fine Irish stout

I actually have a long list of favorites including Old Speckled Hen and Old Peculiar.
My first drink of beer was this:

I've come a long way in regards to palate.
Rogue Dead Guy Ale

bells winter white ale is GOOD
Can't go wrong with a Bells beer.
Recent favorites are the Sam's Noble Pils, Horny Goat selections, and Southern Tier ales.
And there's always something from the hometown brewery in the fridge: http://www.schellsbrewery.com/ (http://www.schellsbrewery.com/)
Guinness, of course, when I go out. At home, I like Hofbrau. Tough to find in some areas but overall, it's a lot easier to find these days.
When it's payday & if the money's not gone already, I treat myself to a Gulden Draak on tap down at The Raven. It's a dark Belgian Tripel that's really tasty; click the pic to beer geek out:
(http://www.villevallapub.se/sortiment/image_file/22) (http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/48/155)
Harpoon IPA, this was my favorite while going to school in Boston. I try to get it whenever I go back east for the holidays, they don't currently distribute anywhere on the west coast.
I like a lot of the Harpoon beers. One thing I miss about the west coast is New Belgium beers. Specifically Fat Tire and 1554..
sapporo draft... tough to find here in the states, but it's awesome. try it once, and you'll happily commit seppuku for another...
Going to Japan in about 6 weeks. I've had Sapporo in a can and bottle here. Looking forward to having it on draft there...
insanely better on tap... enjoy it, you lucky bum! and asahi rocks as well...

i had a whole bottle as if it was a regular beer. needles to say, i was shitting my pants for 4 days straight. i also had 2 other bottles of other misc beer.
I thought it might of been the mix, so i got another bottle planning to drink it one night. But i stood over my ex gfs house one day. come back the next morning and its on the table empty.
I see my dad later that day comming out of his bedroom, He gave me an awkard look and siad, "WTF WAS THAT".

ALL of their beers are amazing and usually MUCH cheaper than imports from across the pond.
If you are into Belgiums, Brewery Ommegang is another great one http://www.ommegang.com/ (http://www.ommegang.com/)
Their Hennepin whit is amazing and Three Philosophers is also incredibly good. It is also a quadrupel, so be careful.......
yep, unibroue makes some good stuff!
I've had the trois pistoles, maudite, and la fin du monde.
all tasty, tasty alternatives the the usual belgian awesomeness
I found a new beer (to me) called Founder's Breakfast Stout. It is pure magic. smooth and delicious. touch of coffee and Chocolate on the finish.

New Belgium's Fat Tire and 1554
JM
St Bernardus 12 is my current favorite treat-myself-to-an-$18-bottle-of-beer beer
If I can find it, Leffe Dark is one of my favorite Belgians - Maredsous is something I will also muscle down if I absolutely have to. Actually, I am not picky - any of the big Belgian beers are alright by me. On that note, a good bargain and a good representation of Belgian for a domestic is New Belgium Abbey.
Dogfish Head IPAs are good - plus one to that [thumbsup]. When I am not treating myself to Belgian beers, I tend to like the really hoppy stuff. Breckenridge 471 is that, but balanced - the way I like it. I recently tried Avery's The Maharaja on tap - insanely hoppy. I wouldn't recommend that to anyone who doesn't want a brief out-of-body experience.
been digging on lagunitas li sumpin sumpin ale and 21st amendment back in black IPA
I enjoy Arrogant Bastard Ale, and some Eye of the Hawk from the Mendo Brewing Co. And lets not forget the ol' 64oz Mickeys!

Last weekend, for my Bday, I went a toured at Troegs brewery...learned a lot and was impressed with how they do business and conduct themselves...talked with 1 of the brothers, Chris about some specific things and he was quick on giving me the right answers....or at least they sounded right...

I went to a local craft brew fest over labor day weekend, I left with a nice buzz and a new favorit brand. 21st ammendment out of SF. They have a black IPA that is very good, as well as a watermellon wheat that is better than any flavored beer that I have ever tried.

Three Philosophers Quadrupel- The essence of wonder is a unique and masterful blend of strong malty ale and authentic Belgian Kriek. Our philosophers deduce that this powerful marriage of cherries, roasted malts, and dark chocolate will only achieve more wisdom and coherence as it broods in the dark recesses of your cellar.

Great beer! Funky glass!
Thats a Sam Adams glass...designed to collect the flavors in the bulb...most of them also have a laser etched ring on the bottom of the glass to keep bubbles forming, so it has a head the entire time, if you pour a Boston Lager into one of those glasses, the head will start at the blue ring and end at the narrow part of the bulb...every time...its bizzare.
Yeah, I knew it was a SA. I have a New Belgium glass with the laser etch in the bottom too.
Odell is the shit too.

Although a bit spendy. $$$
Also drinking more Woodchuck now.
look into estrella Damm Daura for a gluten free beer that is made without sorghum, it makes for a less sweet beer. We have been selling a lot of dry ciders that blow a sweet style cider, like woodchuck out of the water. Try to find either blackthorn or crispin dry cider or sir perry pear cider. They are all great and gluten free. I have been digging on Lagunitas undercover shutdown and avery maharaja!
Thanks for the suggestions, Brix.
I'll keep my eye out for them. [thumbsup]

Attended a beer tasking today and tried the new Sam Adams Latitude 48 Deconstructed. This is a interesting concept where the 5 types of hops used in the Latitude 48 IPA are each used to brew an individual beer utilizing the same recipe as the original but containing only one of the hop variants. We worked our way from least to most bitter and finished with the original brew. Nice to see (taste/smell) how it all comes together.

At the DFH bar in Gaithersburg, you can get the 120 but they have to serve it in a snifter. Snifters save lives you know....

burton baton is some good stuff! And so is the 120. You can find it at a few beer stores in town and they usually sell for about 10 bucks a bottle. I used to get them from the little beer store in rockville right next to Urban BBQ, directly opposite of Guitar Center. I've got 6 of them just sitting under the bar waiting for a good excuse!

Malty and spicy or citrus/ipa-like and spicy? What's going on with that beer? Sounds interesting!
I'd guess spicy an in chilli peppers. Those chilli beers are crazy, and holy shit, Ghost Pepper?!?!? Isn't that literally the hottest pepper in existence?
I've had Bootleggers Hopanero Beer ( IPA with... Habanero), and Coronado Brewing Idiot IPA with Hatch Chili's.. Both were pretty good with the prior actually being more balanced with the chili's..
The Ladyface IPA with Ghost Peppers was Pepper HOT... the chili pepper WAY overshadowed the Hops and was a bit too much (flavor-wise) for me.

try Heavy Seas Black Cannon....I liked it much better!!!
dubbel cannon is great too

i have liked everything 21st amendment except for the watermelon one.
that. was. vile.
I like their Hell or High Watermelon, it's refreshing on a warm day before or after a ball game (21st A is a couple blocks from the Giants' stadium), chillin at the outdoor tables, & they serve it with a slice of watermelon...
I also came around to this beer ( hell or high watermelon) after proclaiming it was terrible last year. Its great after sweating your ass off mowing the lawn. It also got me more into fruit beers.
In the meantime, im off to work to tap our keg of Ommegang Aphrodite!
Tonight's selections:

THE BEAST!!! I'm having a ressurection from brewers art. We cannot get this beer in richmond and a customer of mine bought me a case today!
Ooh... :o
Avery makes some gooooooood stuff.
A friend of mine introduced me to The Reverend (a Belgian quad) last weekend.
So... good... [drink]
No idea how I missed this thread.
Liquor store opened down the street that has microbrews, which is nice cause I don't have to drive accross town now.
Bought a bottle of 15th anniversary Stone IIBA. holy shit. I need to clone it. It was fantastic.
And I really don't like 21st amendment beers. I've only had their black ipa and their live free or die ipa. I don't remember what I didn't like about it, I had one of each then passed them out to friends....
Thinking of getting with my buddy this weekend and whipping up 10 gallons of Drakes IPA.....mmmmmm sooo good.
Oh, since I noticed some of you were from the bay area..... if you wanna get just wasted go to Buddys bites and brews in hayward. Order a Drakes Denogginzer... Perfectly balance IIPA with a wonderful aroma. Not better at all, not sweet at all. Goes down like water, and at 9-10% abv, will drop you QUICK.
Food is fantastic too, avoid thursdays though, drunk karyokee. I have no idea how to spell that word, sorry for the butchering, lol.

Had my fall party this past weekend, where everyone dumps a six or two into a giant cooler and randomly selects. Too many good ones to count. I still have a headache.....
One that I recall (somewhat) clearly was Lucky Bucket Certified Evil.....
Tried some Pliny the elder last night. It was god, overhyped a bit but a great beer. Got a Life and Limb sitting in the fridge for tonight.
Life and limb is great. I was worried that it was gonna be too sweet but the maple flavor is pretty subtle. On my beer trucks today we got Allagash black kegs, The bruery autumn maple 22's, bells cherry stout and a new beer by a new brewery in richmond va , the hardywood park singel!
Just got a growler of the bruery autumn maple Belgian style brown w/ yams, maple syrup, spices and molasses 10 %) @ whole foods. I cant say enough good things about this beer. It's to good not to share with someone. Please try ANYTHING by the bruery!
Finished off another growler of Papago Orange Blossom from local Brewery in Scottsdale and now back to the Easy Street Wheat
Left Hand 400 Pound Monkey IPA
the left hand hand pepper porter is real good. we managed to get a keg of Bells Sparkling @ my bar..its great as well
I had a Lagunitas Brown Shugga '10 last night at Apex, in Portland. Here's the beer list: http://apexbar.com/menu/ (http://apexbar.com/menu/)
Lagunitas will more than likely not brew brown suhugga this year...their new brew rig got smashed by a crane on a boat! Bummer! Have you tried the lagunitas sucks?
Bell's Christmas Ale is now by far my favorite winter brew. Well executed indeed. [thumbsup]

Have a Kern River Brewing CITRA heading my way and I cant wait !!!
Bootleggers Knuckle Sandwich DIPA is due to release soon !
...and I just might crack my 2010 Deschutes Abyss when I get home
I had a pint of cask conditioned Deschutes Jubal Ale the other night that was outstanding. [drink]
Just got through drinking a Paradox Stout aged in 1966 Port Dundass barrels. It might have been the best beer I've ever had.

They didn't. I had their replacement "Lagunitas Sucks ale"
Took my a while to figure out what it was. I believe it was a Rye IPA
I'm interested in trying brown shugga, I might brew up a batch.
we are tapping tonight The bruery 4 calling birds and allagash curieux ( trippel aged in jim beam barrels). I am very envious of you west coast types. We should do some trading!
I'm down to trade again if ya want [thumbsup]

hell yeah... Let me know any east coast of midwest stuff you cannot get
I have 3 growlers from Georgetown brewing in the fridge. The Roger's and Manny's are $6 to fill and the Lucile is $7. Can't beat that in Seattle. Pike brewery charges $12 for a growler refill! Maritime is $9.

Enjoying a Widmer Bros. O'Ryely IPA right now. Very good.
Widmer beer generally used to possess a certain amount of sucktitude. Something seems to have happened there for the better in the last year or so.....
I always remember their hefe weizen as being oddly bitter, which a wheat beer should never be.
You say they've turned over a new leaf? I may have to investigate...

dogfish immort ale in the glass right now! I also had a lagunitas sucks for the 1st time today. Waiting to tap some burton baton and a new beer from a new brewery in richmond va call hardywood park gingerbread imperial stout! STOKED!
Karbach lager FTW. First lager I've ever tasted that made me stop in my tracks
Weihenstephan... pretty much anything from them.

Polished off another Arrogant Bastard. I dig the reds, but I'm having a hard time finding them at my local shop. Really loved Epic Brewing's Imperial Red (yes, a few decent beers come out of Utah!) but can't find it anymore. That pretty much leaves Victory Hop Head Red and Port's Shark Attack.

Ah. I slipped -the Hop Head Red I referenced is from Green Flash, not Victory. Good stuff. I'll have to seek out the Alpha Red, as I'm not familiar with that brewer.
I'm enjoying (trying to block out the price tag) a 4-pack of Gordon's Imperial Red from Oskar Blues. And I'd like to take this opportunity to extend a big "eff you" to Gordon Biersch for forcing OB to change the name of their beer. It's too bad a bigger corporation can't allow a smaller company to honor a man's legacy.
Sorry to harsh the beer thread. I'm done now.
Just suffered through 12 ounces of Nasty. DFH Barley Wine Style Ale.
Thank God I didn't buy a four pack otherwise it would be sitting on my bar next to the Talisker Scotch for years or at least until Bens next visit.

Hopslam is awesome but it's a lot of hype. I would seek out some founders double trouble
On the mild side tonight; had a few lagers from Upslope and a Little Red Cap (altbier) from Grimm Bro's.
Hopslam? Pliney? You guys are killing me. I can find Pliney the Elder on occasion, but Pliney the Younger almost never. :'(

Good luck on your bet. Isn't it ridiculous the hoops we have to jump through just to get a tiny slice of what was normal prior to getting married?

I first bought their "Happy Camper IPA" based on the very simple can design. It was yummy.
The simpleness of the can design on their Java Stout drew me to it. It was yummy.
I'm not sure what that says about me or their beers, but I thought I'd just throw it out there. :P
I just put the last 12-pack of Sierra Nevada's Celebration out of the stash in the bar fridge.

The new black ipa trend isnt too bad. I had the Bluepoint Toxic Sludge the other day.
Had a Saranac White IPA that was worth buying again.
KBS coming in on tuesday
Had some Rogue Dead Guy Ale yesterday at my friends bar. I really liked that one.
Green Flash Palate Wrecker!! It's great...a huge bitter hop bomb!

goose island pere jaques has been killing it for me. Also, if you are feeling belgian style dark ales, Monks blood from 21st amendment is heaven in a can! We just got into a keg of a beer called wildeman farmhouse IPA by flying dog out of MD. Its a great take on a saison/ IPA hybrid. cheers!

Cinco de Mayo was a good excuse to revisit some Mexican Lagers. Had a Cinco, by del Norte out of CO. Also tried their Orale and Manana, which are all pretty decent. Had a 'Mexican Logger' from Ska Brewing, also out of CO.

Had a couple of these last night and tonight (Indian Brown Ale). It is a quality beer. [thumbsup] [beer]

This beer saved Dogfish's reputation for me. I know I'm in the minority, but I think the 90 minute IPA is terrible (I've tried it twice to be sure). It's bitter for the sake of being bitter without a nice flavor to go with it. I can think of a 1/2 dozen IPAs and double IPAs that I'd have over it. Maybe I think this because I'm in the PNW...mecca of American IPA's. East coast IPAs don't impress me in general. [coffee]

Let's just say I didn't lose my contacts in the industry and the brewery was happy to give some gifts to its newest large market distributor.
Granted, the Enjoy By is not available to the general public and probably won't be but like every time Jim Koch came to visit, he always brought something special for the owners and employees of the distributorship. Stone did the same.

Stella Artois
is not that bad for a commercial beer . . . when it was less known, say, 5 years back, it was 'better' and 20+yrs ago it was even "beetter"

Yep, compared to the rest on the menu. I was thinking more like Spud Lite [puke]
we keep stella around because its "safe" for people looking for bud, miller lite etc. The worst part is having to restrain myself around all this great beer....got watch the gut ( and alcoholism!)

Just had some Keegans ale Mothers Milk milk stout. [drink]
http://www.keeganales.com/the-beers/ (http://www.keeganales.com/the-beers/)
Mother's Milk
As the name implies, Mother's Milk is a dark and creamy milk stout. Hints of oatmeal, chocolate and of course, milk make this brew have a remarkably smooth and silky finish, a classic example of the style.
This is what I purchased yesterday, last one to the right, assuming is Russian, was good, mild flavor even for the advertised 7% . . . and was real real light in color; the only repeat in the bunch is the London Pride . . .

Soooo many great beers, I'd have a hard time picking just one brewery, never mind one beer. Basically everything from Ommegang is great...Founders...Avery...Allagash...
Lately I've been mostly gravitating towards doubles, triples and quads, though the number of great brewers right around me has me sampling all sorts of different styles. Night Shift Brewing, Idle Hands, and Mystic are all located near me, so Saturday runs to all three for growler fills are not uncommon. Slumbrew and Pretty Things are also favorites...mmmmm, Pretty Things....

i'll go with the Carlsberg (= but at this point i have to say that maybe i have tried only 0.0001% of the beers in the world. we have like only 20 brands in Turkey. the most popular brands are Efes and Tuborg. i don't have you guys ever tried Efes, they say it tastes good outside Turkey but the local Efes sucks. Tuborg is way much better.

Been in the mood for Pilsners lately. Not much available in Colorado along those lines, but I usually grab Trumer Pils or Pilsner Urquell.
Today I grabbed a bottle of Weltenburger Kloster Pils and a Stiegl pils. Both seemed solid. Any German or Austrian members out there with thoughts on these? I'm heading to Austria in a few months and need to get up to speed on the beers!

Hard to find in bottles, but even harder to find on tap. I got lucky and found Pliny the Younger on tap once at Falling Rock in Denver a few years back. Those dudes can make some beer!
(Warning, slight rant content ahead)
So I bought a 12 pack of Guinness Draught for the first time in a long while, expecting the familiar 'PHFISHT' sound of the nitrogen capsule discharging and the lovely flowing cream head which gives way to glorious beer. None. So I am thinking I got a dud. No luck, as I grab another I see the small "Now Even Better. Drink straight from the bottle" message and NOW I get it. There is no capsul.
Now, it is still a great beer. But if I wanted Guinness straight from the bottle couldn't I just buy Stout instead?? I mean, why call it Draught, if it isn't actually being dispensed with nitrogen? [bang] It does taste slightly stale compared to how I remember it, but maybe it is just a lapse in my memory.
Can anyone concur with me that the capsule version of Draught just tasted fresher?
Bottle? I thought the Nitrogen capsules were only in the cans? ???

No, up untill recently, the bottles of Draught had them too. I guess I have to check and see if the cans still have them. I always have prefered the bottles. But I have been away from the Guinness for a while. Maybe this has been going on longer than I thought. ???

I guess I need to research to find when my Favorite beverage was actually adulterated. I guess the last few times I bought Draught it was cans.
Never seen Draught Guinness in bottles here. Never seen any bottled beer with the widget.
Last time I bought canned Draught Guinness.... the widget was missing.... like you, I opened the can in anticipation of the whoosh.... :-\
Haven't bought any since.
Dunno about fresher tasting, but IMO the widget-enhanced Guinness was definitely smoother, creamier.... more like the pint you get served in the pub. Being draught an' all.

2.3% alcohol? I would have to drink 2 cases of that to get drunk. Sounds to me more like watered down beer that doesn't have what it takes to create a true hangover. Or, you could just drink more water before and after you drink the beer. Then the brew would not need to be watered down. lol

You should try the rogue peanut butter banana chocolate ale. It is their new voodoo doughnut brew.
Rogue also collaborated with Deschutes brewery and made a brew called class of '88. Don't remember the type, but it is awesome.
Both of those beers shouldn't be hard to find!
Started with an Asahi Black Lager...Excellent body and flavor...I think I like it better than Guinness Black Lager

Followed by Dragon's Milk...All I can say is :o

Yup. That Dragon's Milk is a bit of an ass kicker.
If you like dragons milk check out epic big bad baptist. We have allagash bourbon barrel black coming up on tap this week at my work and currently have a couple of aged stouts flowing too

Not sure if their new brewery is open yet here in Denver.
Need to research that. Definitely on the list of places to go.
They're bottling at least, so should be open. Had a few Colorado brewed bombers a few weeks back (Escape to Colorado IPA), which wasn't too bad and another that I don't recall (lager maybe?).

Granted, I hadn't paid much attention in the last few years, but if I recall correctly, the brewery has only had a storefront for the last few years. Circa 2008-ish? At any rate, they're still somewhat under the radar as far as brewpubs in the 'Burque are concerned. Even after winning as many awards as they have. Everyone around here seemingly has big rubbery ones for Turtle Mountain, Marble, Le Cumbre and Chama River.

I had an interesting one yesterday that I dug out of my cellar stash. It was a collaboration between Deschutes Brewery and Hair of the Dog brewery, called Collage. No. 1 in the Conflux Series. The label says "best after 4/30/13". Aged in distilled spirit and wine oak barrels.
Tastes a lot like Fred from the Wood, winey, caramel notes and that woody hit.

Just put a espresso porter on draft at my house. I made it for the local Home brew competition and boy is it good. I'll share but you have to come to NC
It scored well But it didn't win anything at the show.
Speedbag, you should try Long Trail's Limbo IPA.

I don't believe I've had either....both highly rated, I see.
Heady topper is very good but you can only get it from the brewery and 6 gas stations in Vermont. But it is almost worth the trip that far north
That's a bit of an exaggeration. ;)
You can no longer purchase Heady at the brewery. :'(
They are redistributing all of the production to their retail accounts (http://alchemistbeer.com/buy/), which more than 6 gas stations.
Brewery retail sales will resume when they are finished building a new brewery (still looking for a location), just for brewery sales. The current location will produce for retail accounts, and special brews.
Also, many other excellent brewers in VT to visit; Farm Hillstead, Lawson's Liquids, etc.
Had a great one at our local micro-brewey.
Due to the complexities in AK ABC rules, micro-brewery "tasting rooms " are not allowed to serve food. (different license)
So our local brewery has a tradition of customers bringing in snacks to share. [thumbsup] (which is allowed)
Any way, every had an AW rootbeer float.
Try it with real beer. (choose wisely) (choose the ice cream wisely also)
May I suggest, an oatmeal stout with a scoop of Haagen Daaz Dark Chocolate / Chocolate chip Gelato.

Lagunitas Censored: a "Rich copper ale". I'm usually a fan of their brews, but this tastes odd to me. Still on the hunt for a good red. Seems they're getting harder to find...

Picked up some 21st Amendment brews in PA over the weekend.
Not sure I like them. They all seem to have this same funny flavor that I can't quite describe.
Maybe it is the yeast they use. ???
Or the water.....
I'm not a big fan of 21st either.
Just finished a 3 pack of Sam Adams oak barrel aged beers. All were good, and high ABV (9-10%). I had the New World Golden Tripel, Thirteenth Hour Belgian Stout, and Tetravis Belgian Quad. I have to say the New World was my favorite. All were in special 25.4oz corked bottles...
Tried a chipotle pepper smoked porter by Stone Brewing Co. Quite tasty. I'm thinking it would go great with some baby back ribs or a nice grilled ribeye.
^^^ Reminds me of an Alaskan Jalapeno Imperial IPA I had recently. Great stuff.
Here's my latest project, two gallons of American IPA made with eight kinds of hops:

Sucks. Any beer that requires a piece of fruit to taste good sucks (IMO).
...and people in the PNW don't drink it all that much. Should have been some sort of an IPA on that map.
I drink one if I went over to somebody's house and that was what was offered.
It's a pretty standard wheat beer. Domestic version of Hoegarden. You don't need the orange. But running it around the rim of the glass adds a bit of "summer shandy" flavor.

Was a quick "up and back" weekend.
Hit up the Safeway in North Bend and tried to drink local.
Pike's as mentioned, an American Brewing Flying Monkey Dogfight Pale Ale, and a Scuttlebutt Brewing Co Golden Mariner Pale Ale. Had the Dogfight, brought the Scuttlebutt and Pike's home.
Oh, and I grabbed a sixer of Ranier because I was close enough to see the mountain. Wound up marinating/cooking with most of it.
I was rather amused to see New Belgium products up there for cheaper than I can get them locally.
Conversely, Full Sail is usually $6-7/6 pack here and that shit is delicious.
Having quit drinking for well over a month now I would like to say I hate this thread now. Oh the fond memories...

When you are ready to make your come back.
Remember quality is more important than quantity.
One pint of good micro-brew is better than a case of "fizzy yellow wussy beer". (borrowed from Stone Brewing)
Best thing about drinking beer for 20 years? It is not the tiny little beer belly. It is being firm in my knowledge that a piss water beer only once crossed my lips. I tried to drink a Bud once. I was lost in the desert for ten hours in S.E Oregon after a cross country paraglider flight. I finally got a ride and the guy offered me a Bud. General rule of thumb when in SE Oregon; When a rancher offers to share his beer while driving down a lonely road, you accept it with much gratitude. I still did not finish it....... 8)

I had this at the 19th Annual Holiday Ale Festival in Portland.
QuoteOakshire Brewing
Prestidigitation
White Chocolate Milk Stout • ABV: 7.0% • IBUs: 23
With a sleight of hand and a few smoke and mirrors, Oakshire's created this anomaly of a beer style. Blonde in color, yet full-bodied and mildly sweet, this milk stout uses coffee, cocoa nibs and star anise to produce the flavors and aromas of a milk stout with the color of a pale ale.
It looked like a lager & tasted like a stout.

PRO-very tasty, Very high (28%ish) alcohol, very cool bottle. Will hold for a while once open
CON-very pricey (and I refuse to buy it on the secondary market. luckily I got a guy in New London CT), Not something you "drink" more of a sipping drink like port. It is a pallet wrecker, after it everything else tasted off.

I went to the brewery back in the day when they had just opened. Freshly cobbled together table of old plywood and 2x4's with some plastic cups and 4 tap handles in the middle of their brewing area. Serve yourself, as they were too busy brewing beer. I'm pretty sure they knew they didn't have to sell it, as it would sell itself.

Had this the last few days (from my home town). Not as good as I remember. Or maybe it's because there are so many microbreweries with freshly made stouts and other flavors.

I haven't been all that impressed with Lagunitas although It seems like I always get an IPA in my hands from them, and I'm not big on IPA. So mebbe they have something else. Is the Brown Shugga an IPA?
BTW it's a nice ride out to and past Lagunitas to Hwy 1 (https://www.google.com/maps/place/Lagunitas,+CA+94938/@38.0091135,-122.7042577,16z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x8085bf93ecb1f935:0x9b48ab8a45036634)

Brown Shugga's more of a strong ale/barleywine style, so less hoppy than an IPA but higher gravity. Lagunitas Sucks was supposed to be a Brown Shugga substitute, but to me drinks more like an IPA. IMHO, their beers are solid, but as you say, not impressive. They seem to favor the hoppy beers, too, so slim pickings if you're not a hophead.

LOKI RED ALE
This beer was named in the 2013 Top Ten by Willamette Week Magazine. Named for the Norse god Loki, the Trickster. A high spirited beer that is a bit on the sneaky side, just like ol' Loki. A generous helping of Tomahawk and Galena hops with a distinct English brown malt background. Those of you who have trouble choosing between the richer, malty ales and the bitter IPAs may find nirvana in this beer. OG= 1.072 / FG= 1.015 / 68-IBUs / 7.5% alcohol

In defense of Sam Adams (I can't believe I just said that), it
is a session IPA, after all. I wouldn't expect it to compare to a regular IPA, let alone a west coast IPA.
Have you tried Stone's or Lagunitas session IPA? I'm curious how they compare. The whole 'session IPA' seems like such an oxymoron, I haven't been very keen to try them. [beer]

Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA here this evening. [thumbsup]
Went here when I was in Vancouver a couple weeks ago http://steamworks.com/brewery (http://steamworks.com/brewery).
Had a few beers, but the Imperial Red Ale was probably my favorite. Jasmine IPA was pretty good too.
Thanks for that link....
Not too far from where I am staying in Vancouver in a few months.

I am in Olympia WA for the night. My hotel is within walking distance to 2 breweries.

I just picked up a 6 pack of this year's Jubelale (http://www.deschutesbrewery.com/beer/jubelale/) from Deschutes. [drink]
And a 6 pack of Slippery Slope (http://cascadelakes.com/beers/slippery-slope/) from Cascade Lakes.

I've been on an IPA kick lately. Currently working my way through a 12 pack of Stone Brewery Mixed 12 pack. Stone IPA, Ruination Double IPA 2.0, Delicious IPA, and Hop Revolver IPA.
My boy Dave's microbrewery in Austin is all coming together. I couldn't be more proud of him.

Sierra Nevada provided the recipe and the grain. 100% of the proceeds go to the victim of the Camp wildfire. [thumbsup]
I'm more of a porter / stout fan, the wife had a pint and liked it so much that we took home a growler.
Nice Marmot

Going all month without beer (or any alcohol) hasn't really done much for me. I still sleep like a baby (awake most of the night) and I'm fairly certain I'm (more) grumpy. Ok and maybe I saved some cash so there's that one positive.
But I set a goal, I'll see it through.
I'll likely have a beer Saturday (not a Stella) and considering a New Holland Dragon's Milk but wish we had their Cabin Fever brown ale locally.
I'm sure I'll find something delish.

Does New Holland distribute to CO now? I know that Bell's does (of course, after I leave - but I can get both here).
They do. Limited variety though. The Poet is one but it's not my fav. Their barrel aged Dragon's Milk options are all really good. Will be there in a few weeks and taste test a few more. [drink] [thumbsup]
