Hey all, any help here would be appreciated. I decided to do the valves on my S4rs by myself and all had been going well, until my intake valves went kerplunk into the vertical cylinder.... dammit [bang]
They did not fall all the way through because I can still see the top's of them when I look down the valve guides. And here's the 25 cent question........
Is there any way to bring them back up without removing the head?
Thanks in advance for any ideas..... I have not touched it since they fell in for fear of them falling all the way in.
Been there, done that, used a magnet to save the day.
Ack! Magnet like MrIncredible suggested is my thought. And always doing 'em at TDC in the future...
That's it... the bikes done! I'll take it off you're hands for $1 - And that's because I'm generous.
If you don't have a suitable magnet - http://www.kjmagnetics.com/ (http://www.kjmagnetics.com/) can help you out. They have a wide variety of size and shape. You should be able to get a cylindrical magnet small enough to send down after the valve, and strong enough to pull it back up.
If the magnet trick does not work out, remove the intake manifold for that cylinder and push it up from the port. It is more work than the magnet, but lots less than pulling the head.
turn the bike upside down and shake it.
that's what my clever buddy said......
Thanks for all the quick responses gang. I thought of the magnet idea too, but how do I send it down the valve guide when the opening rocker arm is right on top of the hole? Can the side covers come off the head while it is still on the bike and then remove the rockers?

I know they can on a desmoquattro
try to get a flexable wire, tape a magnet to it and snake that pregnant dog in like a ninja, see if it will catch.
i was thinking that too, but i don't wnt to lose a magnet down there too, that would be fun
MAKE SURE IT'S NOT A CHEAP-O SPECIAL!!! I have, on two occasions now, seen the magnets from harbor freight and the likes loose the magnet from their handles in some not so great areas: combustion chambers. Make sure if you're sticking something in the cylinder it's not going to loose the magnet, because once it's out, the head's comming off. But, this is your only option.
Not sure on the logistics for a testastretta, but I've seen high air pressure from an air compressor/tank blown into the spark plug hole pop the valves right up on a big block mopar.
get neodymium magnets. they make small disc-shaped ones.
get 4 or 5. figure out their orientation and then KRAZY GLUE them together. then glue them to the end of a thin dowel.
snake away.
then throw them away because they will stick to everything in your life.
did you try hitting the starter?

With the cams out, you can swing the opener rockers up out of the way, right?
;D ;D ;D got 'em!!! ;D ;D ;D
I made a tool out of a nail and ground off the sharp end nice and flat for good contact and put about 10 of those little neowhatever magnets on the other end of the nail to make one big magnet and they came up, no problem
Thanks to all and have a good night. I know I'm going to sleep great.

I think this was the best suggestion... you guys got too technical with all those fancy magnets
I'm a big proponent of hanging the bike in every orientation to make sure it can survive a brief flight regardless of gravity :P

D'oh! I hung my bike upside down by the rafters! Gas and oil everywhere.
Apparently it's a good way to drain fluids too [popcorn]
I usually only turn it sideways for oil changes, otherwise how do you get the oil out of the plug on top ???
My oil just goes out the exhaust pipe-the oil changes are way more efficient!

Seems lik you droped your valve one too many times.

OR you could secure them to the bottom of the frame and potentially trigger traffic lights that don't otherwise change as you sit at them.
Just be glad you had dropped that valve wit hthe bike off. Otherwise you could have a nice new, real expensive paper weight.

Yeah, I hate when that happens.
