Currently have a 2005 620 with stock gearing (15/48) and have been reading up on the 14t mod.  It seems that most people would recommend raising teeth in the rear rather than going to the 14t in front if funds allow.  On the '05 620 is this an option?  Seems like all I'm finding for rear sprockets are 46 and 48 tooth (and some much smaller).  The main purpose of this is to help with the low speed jerkiness of the bike.  Playing around with Gearing Commander seemed to give 14/46 as a good option (around halfway between 14/48 and 15/48), but I wanted to get some opinions on this before I bite the bullet and order parts.

Also if I were to go with 14/46, should I need a chain with a different number of links?

Most people go to 14t up front because you shouldn't need a new chain (I don't have first hand experience with it, just what I've read numerous times on here).  If you start raising teeth in the back, you'll likely need a new chain with less links (how many less, I could not tell you).  So if it's already time to replace your chain, get a new rear sprocket while you're at it.....but if your chain and rear sprocket are in good shape, just spend $35 now on a 14t front sprocket and see how you like it.

More teeth in rear = less links?  Isn't that backwards?

I've got an 02 620 and I did the same thing to get rid of the low speed jerk.  The 14T makes the 620 a completely different bike.  I top out at about 118MPH, but then again how often do you need to go triple digits?  I think the 14T really accomplished what I was going after.  Just my $.02
