Title: SBK fender clearance issue - 96 M900 Post by: dropstharockalot on January 31, 2010, 03:22:37 PM I ran a quick search and found some related threads, but nothing that addressed my particular situation:
I've acquired a SBK front fender for my 96 M900, for the look and for protecting the fork sliders. When I bolted it up today to test the fit, I discovered that the rear part of the fender is making contact with the tire. My tire is pretty squared off (it's on the list of things to address this winter...) but there doesn't appear to be a clearance issue at the front of the fender... I was able to slide a 5mm allen between the tire and the leading edge of the fender. The fender has some rash in the rear, so I'm not opposed to chopping it down - it's going to need painted anyway. However, if that can be avoided, I'd rather just sand out / filler the rash part and re-paint. Questions: 1) Is this common? 2) Is there a simple bolt-up trick that addresses this (washers, whatever...)? 3) Is there no way in Hades that any amount of cutting will ever solve this problem because the fender in question is just genetically pre-disposed to hating M900s, and should I give up all hope now instead of wasting any time in the garage? 4) Is this issue going to crop back up (at the front of the fender) once I replace the current squared-off front tire with a new, rounded one? Pics below… Put a washer, or two, between the fork and the fender at the bottom bolt. As you tighten the bolts it will fix the issue. It's because the SS and SBK bikes didn't use a 70 series tire. That fender looks like a Supersport/888 front fender for the narrow mount forks.
