Title: Pipes TOO LOUD
Post by: jc2ducati on January 31, 2010, 06:06:52 PM
I could use some help. I just got this new to me 2007 695 for mainly use as a city bike. Picture link is below. I am mostly a newbie on bike mechanicals but can learn most anything and have all the tools.

I only have one test ride in so far but probably within 15 to 20 minutes, I realized the pipes were just too uncomfortably loud for me, without ear plugs. Under acceleration, they sound great! It is worst for me when engine braking (even getting some popping and small backfires) and just cruising at around 2 to 4k rpm or so in 1st, 2nd, 3rd gear, in just city riding conditions. I thought my last bike was loud, but i can set car alarms off in front of me before, i've even passed them!

I was wondering if anyone can identify the pipe installed, and whether there is anything i can check or do to quiet it down some.

Advice is greatly appreciated!
Jay

They look like Fresco Carbon Conical Pipes...

His bike: (http://www.motojava.com/images/gd2007m695.jpg)

You are going to want to contact Motowheels and ask them if that picture IS the fresco conicals, and if they have baffles available.

Wow, this is great. Thanks for such quick replies. It does look like an exact match to Frescos, even matching the triangular shaped mounting bracket.

I was going to wait till day light to take better photos. However, i went ahead and took these as well.

I tried a photo into the exhaust. Not sure if anything is missing or what. Seems like *stuff* in there, so it's not an empty can! Sorry, not sure why images don't show if i try inserting an image.

However, at www.motowheels.com (//http://) (//http://), i don't see them selling this exhaust anymore. In fact, not sure i can find anything labelled 695 on there.

Thanks again,
Jay

does look like there is an indent there to snap in a db killer.

and here's a link to the db killers from Fresco

good price too!

Hmm, that was quite a find. it does look like it should work, same manufacturer after all.

After navigating the foreign language site, this is what i came up with:

The db killer x2 is $40.
The shipping to US is $30.

Thus, i will try to shop around locally, but at least i know my price now! ;)

honestly if you call up a local machinist or welder, or someone that does custom exhausts you can probably have them weld up a set of inserts for your bike, made with just some steel tubing and then you can drill holes in it to get it to the "loud" or "not so loud" level that you want.

afterall db killers are just downshizing the opening of the exhaust.

Hmm, after doing some searching around, making my own db killer might be easy enough.

However, it sounds like a lot of people actually pull out their db killer that commonly comes with these after market exhausts. If anyone does not want theirs, I would gladly take it off your hands to modify on this bike.

I measured the diameter of the inner opening at 1 7/8", so anything narrower than that should work. If anyone has one, please let me know!

Thanks,
Jay
