Title: Has to be some sort of record. Post by: El Matador on February 03, 2010, 04:56:35 PM Last Sunday I managed to dislocate my shoulder while riding, and no, I'm not talking about had a crash and it popped out. I hit a pothole and when the bike's front end came back down, my shoulder kinda went with it.
I managed to slow down to a stop and proceeded to topple over ONTO MY SHOULDER [bang] [bang] [bang] [bang] [bang] Luckily, I was able to put it back in before the adrenaline wore off and with the help of a bystander pushed the bike the remaining 200 yds to my house. Got a nice little bruise that I assume was made by the shoulder bone ripping the blood vessels. Will post pics of it later. When Desmolu finally managed to force me to go see the doc on Friday, he didn't believe me that I had put it back in without going to the ER. His face was priceless when he saw the Xrays :o :o :o It looks like I finally have to go get that operation I've been trying to put off for so long [bang] [bang] [bang] [bang] [bang] Title: Re: Has to be some sort of record. I was wondering where you were. Didn't know you were delaying a surgery. At least Lucrece wasn't riding pillion. Title: Re: Has to be some sort of record. Post by: He Man on February 03, 2010, 05:12:40 PM Yea dude, your shoulder routinly popping out means you need surgery end of story.
The question of if you can afford it though is a whole other and is the boat I'm in. did you atleast topple over after putting the bike's sidestand? :P Title: Re: Has to be some sort of record. Yeah, between that and the fact that my mom had to get a pretty intense surgery I've been stressed out and lacking the motivation to do anything really, including posting. The problem with the shoulder is that I do all the right exercises to get it strong again, and it does get strong, enough that I don't seem to need the surgery, and then all of a sudden something random happens and make the beast with two backss me over. The prospect of being entirely out of commission for six months is not inviting at all. I just don't have the time for it. :P Anyways, how's that new 1098 treating ya? I toppled over, bike fell on me. I had to drag myself out from under the bike with my left arm. :P Title: Re: Has to be some sort of record. Post by: swampduc on February 03, 2010, 05:20:04 PM Scary. Post by: NoisyDante on February 03, 2010, 08:53:04 PM I highsided back in August and separated my right shoulder. I also broke my humerus bone (not funny) right on the ball joint in my shoulder. I can just say don't skimp on the physical therapy.
Speaking of priceless faces though, my therapist got my arm stuck above my head, so I grabbed it and pulled it down across my body, making the worst cracking, wrenching, painful sound ever. Her face was that of shock and horror. Totally worth it. Title: Re: Has to be some sort of record. Title: Re: Has to be some sort of record. Post by: fastwin on February 04, 2010, 04:50:43 AM Wow, that sucks Jesus. I also need major reconstructive shoulder surgery that I have been putting off for a year... to go along with the knee replacement surgery that I have been putting off for two years! I'm with you on the shoulder repair recovery! The damn shoulder surgery recovery is much longer and more painful than the knee replacement!! WTF!! Just what I want to do is live, breath and sleep with that stupid giant padded arm sling. Gee, you can't even get dressed or cut a steak at dinner with that on! Who's gonna hire me for a job needing all that work and recovery. I'm phucked...
I feel your pain bro'. Good luck with it. [thumbsup] Title: Re: Has to be some sort of record. Post by: EvilSteve on February 04, 2010, 04:54:54 AM Hey, I know a lot of people who use shoulder braces while skydiving (popping a shoulder while skydiving can be problematic as you might imagine). The problem with popping your shoulder is that it gets weaker, the ligaments stretch and then it's more likely to happen in future. As you said, you can exercise and strengthen your shoulder to some extent but you can't really trust it. I'd suggest having a look around for a shoulder brace (even if you do get surgery).
I have several friend who wear this one: http://www.donjoy.eu/en_US/detail_UpperExtremity2_39962_57136.html?taxonomyId=57510 (http://www.donjoy.eu/en_US/detail_UpperExtremity2_39962_57136.html?taxonomyId=57510) They've done hundreds of skydives using this kind of brace and I've talked to them about it, it makes a massive difference. Good luck getting it all sorted. Title: Re: Has to be some sort of record. Post by: Popeye the Sailor on February 04, 2010, 08:30:51 AM Do it while you're young and still heal quick. Once you hit Nates age, there's no hope.
