Stu, surely there's some woods near you that you could take the van into. . .
[evil]
Yes, but there is a fundamental difference between myself and the owner of this Econoline van:
I care about mind and wish to own it and drive it for many years to come.
However, that is one hella-funnah pic of something just about to go wrong! ;D
There is a company that could convert my E250 to 4WD though...

If I still lived in Southern AZ, a 4x4 E-350 diesel is my dream desert/baja rig. There was one on e-bay last year for a long time, but the guy wanted $45k for it.
Awe....just do it the way they did in 1984....

Pretty sure they were conversions...
they did IIRC go straight from the factory to the conversion company then to the dealers.

ok, that makes sense.
i do know that a shortbed extended cab '95 f150 trans would supposedly have fit my old ltd without too much hassle. (at least for the rear) there were just a few issues that i didn't want to have to pay to fix concerning ride height and control arms for the front.

For Fords, they were never stock. You might have seen them at a Ford dealership, but after they had spent some time at Quigley. From what I know, it is not terrible to convert yourself and I have seen a few self conversions. I think one of the 4x4 mags did a conversion......
Not 100% true... In the early 70's they were available w/4WD from the factory but it was such a sales-flop...they dropped it. 1971 I think...300 units +/-.

OOPS. I was barely a glimmer at that point! I guess I should have prefaced by saying in my lifetime.....

I still think they were converted outside the factory...with parts available through the ford parts system, but 71 was a long time ago. You may be right.

Not yet... But give it another 17 days.
Crap! I've spent the better part of a day looking at conversions! I got to figure out how to buy one of these and disappear! My business is portable.......
