Title: ECU - Display marriage
Post by: pespina on February 05, 2010, 01:20:34 PM
Recently, I purchased a 2008 Ducati missing the second key and the Code Card (note: there are no red-keys in the 2008+ Ducatis).

I contacted Ducati Italy and Ducati NA and both told me that they do not give away Electronic Codes as stated in the user manual and recommended that I contact my dealer. My dealer told me that for about $2000, they could change: the display, the ECU, the gas tank cap, the ignition switch, and issue a new set of keys and a new Code Card.

I understand everything except the ECU replacement (which happens to be the most expensive part of the set) and here is why. If you can change the ECU when you make many performance modifications without changing the display, why do you need to change the ECU when you change the display? I have never changed a Ducati ECU, but I have not found anything indicating that you have to reenter the Electronic Code when you replace the ECU.

Can anyone shade some light on this?

Thanks, Pedro

When you replace the ECU you "marry" it when you install it as I understand it.

On the older monsters you can disable the immobilier but no one is doing that with the new monsters as far as I know.

Why replace everything when you can just get the immobilizer removed?
Either replace the ECU for $400 or get yours flashed for $250. Don't let the dealer rip you off.

Pedro,

I have no link to Desmo Porsche other than being a customer. My ECU is currently in the mail on its way back to me after being flashed to the DP Termi kit spec with O2 and immobilizer removed.
