Guys,
I just put a set of Jese risers on my 696. After install, I noticed the bars can move a little up and down when pushing on bars. It appears as if the flex is happening on the bottom bar holder, the one that the riser fits into. It is almost like the bars are mounted on rubber bushings. I looked in my manual, and it shows a spacer that is between the holder and the top triple. They are under the bracket, so you cannot see them. if it is rubber, that would explain the flex.
Could someone help me and reassure me that the stock bars do the same thing? Just sit on the bike and push down on left side then right side of bar. See if there is an 1/8" play up and down.
My fear is that there is now increased leverage now that the bars are higher, and it is exaggerated. I fear that pitching it into a corner and they will flex, causing too much input..or I could be paranoid!
Anyone else with similar issue?
No FHE on the 696 or those risers, but no Duc that I'm aware of has any rubber in the handlebar mounting.
I would say it's not normal and would have the same concerns as you.
Did either of you find that a riser put excess stress on the cables? It appeared to me that they were not long enough to work with a riser without straining them.
And yes - on my 2009 696 there is barely noticeable play as you described it.

I can't be 100% certain, but I'm pretty sure the M696 and M1100 do. That's what I remember from having a test ride on the 1100.

FWIW, the Multistrada 1100 definitely has a rubber-mounted handlebar also. Seem to remember seeing the new Multi 1200 will too.
What I have not been able to discern is whether or not the stockers do the same. I guess I could put the bars back to stock, but.....
Can someone check out their stock bars for play?
I now realize the bars are rubber mounted ( thanks Raux), however I need to know how much of the play is due to the increased leverage.

did the risers replace the whole clamp above the triple?
if so what did you torque the two bolts/nuts to when you put them back on?

today i became a true duc owner. it is a right of passage that i have passed. i knew ONE thing that ducpainter didn't :D now to work on the 60 million things i dont know that he does.

The riser goes between the original pieces. I did torque them properly. The wobble is definitely at the portion that is bolted to the triple/yolk, the spot were the rubber bushings are. I even checked those two bolts, and they are properly torqued.
This happens when you extend the bars away, just more leverage on the bushing. I once saw a Harley with ape hangers, the bars moved 6 inches forward when the rider got off and let go.
Don't over torque, you'll just cause them to split. IMO, if you don't mind the wiggle and it doesn't seem unsafe I think the only thing you need to do is keep an eye on the bushing wear. Since they're moving more they could wear sooner than expected.

Rubber mounts to reduce vibration....but 1/8" play? I'm with Ducpainter, handlebars should not move.
Brake lines can be too short for some bar upgrades.....had to install new (custom made) lines when the stock bars were replaced with Speigler superbike bars
