Title: Re: removing 696 forks, stand? Post by: DucatiTorrey on February 08, 2010, 10:39:16 AM im not far at all. I want to PC the triples, get a black handlebar and PC the handlebar beacket area on the triple black as well. How did you prop the bike up?
Title: Re: removing 696 forks, stand? Post by: Raux on February 08, 2010, 10:55:14 AM had the bike on a rear stand. hung the front of the frame from the rafter in the garage with straps.

Post by: z0mb1e_DUC on February 10, 2010, 02:08:33 AM I've also known people to use an 8ft A-Frame type step ladder. Especially if you have a type-II rated at 250lbs. Just string a ratchet strap from either side, down thru the frame, by the head tube. Having the bike on a rear stand would probably be wise too.
Title: Re: removing 696 forks, stand? Post by: causeofkaos on February 10, 2010, 07:10:45 AM T-rex stands are good quality at a great price. im sure youve red threads about them.
$240 got me a rear stand front stand with tripple adapter. 240 for me is cheap insurance against a dented tank or shift/brake lever bending or breaking. ive done the hanging bike from I-beam rafter thing, and as secure as you feel it is when you goto bed all you will dream is a nightmare of structural failure and everything falling on top of your bike and a insurance claim adjuster shaking his head with the "you are so f*cked" look on his face. what ? im the only one who has dreamt that ?? Title: Re: removing 696 forks, stand? Post by: DucatiTorrey on February 11, 2010, 05:29:55 AM yeah i might get the terex stands. I heard they are moire like 100 bucks though, maybe the front triple adapter is more?
(http://t-rex-racing.com/imgs/large/golfr.jpg) will this set up work on a 696? http://t-rex-racing.com/catalog.php?item=98&catid=43&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D43 (http://t-rex-racing.com/catalog.php?item=98&catid=43&ret=catalog.php%3Fcategory%3D43) i know the back will, just not sure on the front, hat am i looking for? Title: Re: removing 696 forks, stand? Post by: fletch696 on February 11, 2010, 12:08:15 PM The issue I ran into with a normal bottom of the fork stand on the 696 like you have pictured. The stand covers the pinch bolts on the front axle. Mine also covers the axle nut. I put the bike on the rear stand and lifted the front up on the front stand and then used the garage rafters to take the wheel off. I put the bike back onto the front stand while sleeping so that I wouldn't worry about it all night.
