Title: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: DucatiTorrey on February 10, 2010, 08:36:51 AM I am considering getting these Termi stickers made, with negative space where the colors used to be. It is similar to the Carbon versions we've seen, but this will actually use your termis carbon instead of "printed" carbon on the sticker.
what do you think? worth the trouble of installation? thanks for the input fyi this is a quick photoshop (http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4024/4346033221_c9cd047f4b.jpg) Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: stopintime on February 10, 2010, 09:41:45 AM Not only do I think it's a great idea - I want a few for myself [thumbsup]
I took mine off because of the colors, but the length of the S*R cans needs something to visually cut them in sections. The one I had was a metal backed (heat protected?) sticker. It came off VERY easily. Do you plan on using vinyl and do you expect that to last? Another question: will the white be separate pieces placed on a sheet or do you plan to have the cut outs done by them being clear, not actual cut outs? The surface on my cans is quite rough, it might be difficult to make anything stick long term? I still want them though :D just airing a few concerns... Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: ungeheuer on February 10, 2010, 11:04:43 AM Yeah, I agree - its a great idea.....
I didnt want any blue on my Termi decals either, so I'm running carbon "look" stickers but in some lights the carbon "look" appears to have a blueish hue which doesnt quite match the CF of the cans. I think stopintime may have a valid point in that you may have issues in getting transparent vinyl which can cope with the heat (even though the CF doesnt get so hot as metal)... and another thing you may wanna consider is that the transparent part is unlikely to be crystal-clear and so you may end up with a similar slight colour mis-match as I have. Tricky to make and fiddly to apply, but perhaps just the "outline" kinda decal my be the ultimate solution? Let us know what you come up with, very interested to see how it works out [thumbsup] Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: geoffduc on February 10, 2010, 01:17:43 PM I did some work on a friends streetfighter last summer and he'd had some made similar to your idea but I found that with all the edges they quickly got plucked and in the end I removed them as they became tatty :-\

I'm guessing it's the work of a boss' wife and he doesn't have the guts to tell her the design is out [roll] They are Italian, design is in their blood and they MUST know about this issue - something isn't quite right... I was not planning using clear, i wanted the negative space to be nothing. Your natural carbon.
The heat is an issue, though the carbon pipes don't get that hot, it might not last, no that you mentioned they were metal backed, i'll look into it. otherwise, i still like the effect, and may just put them on a tool box or my car. ill keep you all posted Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: stopintime on February 11, 2010, 06:40:40 AM ........... ill keep you all posted please do [thumbsup] Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: dennisd on February 11, 2010, 07:42:53 AM I'm up for some too if you get them to work.

Trust me, I don't have too much money, being unemployed at the time being. When I got the monster, the only options (for great sound and styling) for me was termis, and arrows i think. So termis it was Back to the content at hand to quote DucPainter "Jim, I'm not aware of the OEM decals being metallic backed. I go by the premise that auto clears work fine on the cans because they really don't get that hot. Quality vinyl should be no issue if installed on a clean surface IMO. Nate" so, we will see, hopefully we will have a price soon as well. Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: Two dogs on February 12, 2010, 12:29:10 PM How about making a left and a right side so the little rider is always pointed forward
feel free to flame me if this is too anal. Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: DucatiTorrey on February 12, 2010, 03:35:21 PM How about making a left and a right side so the little rider is always pointed forward feel free to flame me if this is too anal. that might be too anal ha ha! heres an update though. "Jim, My plan was to do it with white auto 5 yr vinyl and cut it out. There will be no clear vinyl. It will have an overlay for installation. The size is roughly 2.4" square...the size can be adjusted. It will cost slightly more as the size increases. I'm thinking $10/pair shipped. Nate" he went on to say that others are sold 3.5 inches square, so this might be smaller, anyone think we need to go bigger? can anyone tell what stock might be? Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: stopintime on February 12, 2010, 03:49:21 PM ............. he went on to say that others are sold 3.5 inches square, so this might be smaller, anyone think we need to go bigger? can anyone tell what stock might be? I'm pretty sure the Monster decals are 3.5 x 3.5. The 2.5 x 2.5 are typically for 749/999 exhaust boxes and maybe 848/1098/1198 cans too. The smaller version will IMO look..... small. My metal backed decals came off VERY easily, any kind of vinyl will stick better unless the heat does something to ruin them or the glue. I can't see how we will find out before we try. My bike is in winter storage, but someone might be able to try some random white vinyl sticker and see how it holds up? Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: DucatiTorrey on February 12, 2010, 04:49:29 PM i agree, if i can get one free one, this spring i can ride with is in front of my stock ones for a little while. anyone here live in warm weather that can test one for a while now?
i also agree on 3.5 x 3.5 Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: DucatiTorrey on February 12, 2010, 04:55:57 PM so how many are interested for an initial order? the more the better, obviously.
there is a sale on matt white vinyl, and the forward facing guy is a go. can we get a count, send me and ducpainter a Pm if you are in jim (ducatitorrey) Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: Two dogs on February 12, 2010, 05:57:00 PM So you like the idea of the rider forward left n right ?
If that is a go Ill take a set if you will post to Oz. Dez Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: ungeheuer on February 13, 2010, 02:32:58 AM Yup 3.5" and rider forward both sides [thumbsup] um.. but can I have gold instead of white? hmmm? please?
Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: ducpainter on February 13, 2010, 04:43:07 AM Yup 3.5" and rider forward both sides [thumbsup] um.. but can I have gold instead of white? hmmm? please? I'm not in the vinyl business per se. I don't really want to be. I have a cutter to make masks for my paintwork. I'm doing this as a favor to another member that has severe restrictions when trying to do business outside of his country and to the folks that want these. That member provided the file. Don't be misled, I will make a few bucks. ;) I do not keep any quantities of sign vinyl on hand. The white is ordered. If someone wants a different color from white they'll have to pay for the entire roll plus shipping. pm me for details. I will post to anywhere in the world. Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: DesmoDiva on February 13, 2010, 11:11:15 AM I'll take a pair for my 749. [thumbsup]
The previous owner nixed the termi stickers. :-\ FYI, this is not a valid DMF poll because there is no boobies option. ;) Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: stopintime on February 13, 2010, 11:17:06 AM I'll take a pair for my 749. From what I've seen at the dealers the original termi stickers are of a similar type of metalic backed vinyl and they seen to stick OK so is the material your going to use metalic backed or not ???
Looks like you've got yourself a new full time job ;D ;D ;D [coffee] Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: DucatiTorrey on February 13, 2010, 12:00:58 PM FYI, this is not a valid DMF poll because there is no boobies option. ;) damn, my bad :-[ Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: ducpainter on February 13, 2010, 12:21:00 PM Nate as I mentioned earlier in the thread that the streetfighter that I was modding for a friend had some really nice termi outline stickers that were in a metalic type of vinyl but they had began to peel and looked rather tatty. My cutter will not cut anything like that. Remember I'm not in the sign biz. ;DLooks like you've got yourself a new full time job ;D ;D ;D [coffee] I'm using 6 yr white vinyl in a matte finish. They will not be metallic backed. I think they'll adhere fine and being a matte finish won't telegraph the weave too bad. Title: Re: Making my own version of termi sticker (with some help) Post by: stopintime on February 13, 2010, 12:34:16 PM Will there be a "Toomuchmoney" version as well? BTW - does your cutter just cut or does it print on the vinyl as well? I'm still in desperate lust after these....
