Title: Google Buzz
Post by: junior varsity on February 10, 2010, 02:21:59 PM
Anybody using this?

I quite like it. I am glad to see somebody taking on Facebook in social networking with a legitimate product. (I think MySpace is for pedophiles and idiots, personally).

If you aren't yet, its quite simple: Establish a google profile (If you aren't already with GMail, please join us all in the 21st Century), add friends with google email addresses and share messages, pictures, links, etc. You can make public or private posts. It interfaces well with standard "GChat" which allows private person-to-person messaging as well.

Like Facebook, no software to install.

Will it last? Probably. Its Google, and they have lots at stake.

That is awful. But you do get to see airplanes take off and land since you are right by the airport all the time.

I do recall the orkut network, but that was many moons ago when social networking was quite newer and there were many competing networks. When Facebook opened its doors to non-collegiate emails, all the competitors essentially died out. Now they've decided to combat this by uncluttering what Facebook has evolved into, and removing the work-only-aspect of LinkedIn.

It will be interesting to see if it takes off or not. In its current form, its a quick way to share thoughts, pictures, and websites with your friends/contacts.

I saw this coming... among my other talents, I am the ultimate trend-killer.  As soon as something happening and cool and accepted by the mainstream reaches my consciousness, I join the herd and my presence utterly sucks the life out of it.  I'm essentially William H. Macy's character in "The Cooler" for pop culture.

When I started peg-rolling my jean cuffs in '88, everyone started wearing enormous saggy pants.
I got a high-top fade in 92, compelling rappers everywhere to switch to dreads.
I joined Napster just in time for it to get sued.
I joined MySpace, and everyone migrated to Facebook.

This morning I joined Facebook, thereby ensuring the success of Google's new app.

This thought did occur to me, but I think the forum is safe.  My evil powers only work on trends accepted en mass.  Ducati, while gaining in popularity, is not quite pervasive on the level of a MySpace of Napster.

But if I ever join a GSX-R 600 forum, that shit is OVER.

--Momentary thread jack: It still amazes me that SC came out in 1998 and you can still walk into any Best Buy and it's still on the shelf - Blizzard should get an award or something for that!

Look at where Windows was back then:
