Title: Changes to QLD rego sticker display? Post by: NFG on February 10, 2010, 03:36:50 PM I was in the EuroTwins shop yesterday and another rider mentioned that he had, just moments earlier, been pulled over by 'officer plod' and told that his rolled-up rego sticker was, as of this week, no longer legal. He was not fined or ticketed, but was told he must go and get a normal flat holder as soon as possible to accommodate this new regulation.
Can anyone confirm or deny this? I've been unable to find anything in the regulations that reflects this alleged change. There are no changes in the legislation online: Transport Operations (Road Use Management—Vehicle Registration) Regulation 1999 Part 3 Vehicle registration 33 Position for attaching registration label (1)The registered operator of a vehicle must attach the vehicle’s registration label to the vehicle— (a)so as to be clearly visible from outside the vehicle; and (b)in a way complying with subsections (2) to (6). Maximum penalty—6 penalty units. (2)If the vehicle is a motorbike, the label must be placed in a holder attached to the motorbike on the left-hand side or rear of the motorbike. This is taken from the QLD Legislation site (http://www.legislation.qld.gov.au/Acts_SLs/Acts_SL_T.htm) and has an effective date of 29th January, 2010. I'm inclined to believe Officer Plod was mistaken. Title: Re: Changes to QLD rego sticker display? As of this year, WA dosn't send out rego labels. Apparently they get enough info through their puters from your licence plate... I like the idea, but it may piss off the people that swing it over their rego plate. not often we're ahead of you eastern state people! ;D :-* Title: Re: Changes to QLD rego sticker display? Post by: Q777 on February 11, 2010, 04:20:11 AM Police who are against the tube holders point out that the entire rego label should be viewable at one time. The better tube holders can be rotated to show all of the label, just not all at once. I guess that's their interpretation of "clearly visible"...
Title: Re: Changes to QLD rego sticker display? Post by: NFG on February 11, 2010, 11:55:09 AM The law doesn't state what portions of the label need to be visible, only that it's visible at all. Obviously it's open to interpretation, but until they demand it be displayed FLAT, we're still within the letter of the law as best I can tell.
I don't even have a tube, but I wouldn't mind getting one (from a shop where they're not $60, heh). Title: Re: Changes to QLD rego sticker display? Post by: MonsterDorf on February 12, 2010, 12:26:31 AM Hmm, seems very odd. Given todays technology the police simply enters the Rego No. and can access anything they like, the label really doesn't count for much any more, so why the big deal? Without wanting to sound negative wouldn't the police resource be better utilised catching real criminals..........sorry had to be said.
I guess the officials in WA see it the same way. Title: Re: Changes to QLD rego sticker display? Post by: loony888 on February 12, 2010, 01:26:35 AM just another example of qld police harassment, they seriously believe they are the law, not employees of the state to uphold the law. i'll say it again, say nothing, think very very carefully before you answer any question they ask, and deny everything.

is considered the expert in the local region for all things to do with Registration, She said that as long as the Rego label is visible, and can be seen from the Left hand side or rear of the Vehicle, she said she had no issue with it. She did mention that the regulations were changing next year (meaning 2010, as I spoke to her mid last year) but she described it more as a change of the wording of the rules for better Clarity. I showed her my label holder, a Tube holder and she had no issue with it, with 2 conditions 1. The label had to be clear and legible (which it was) 2. The holder must be easy to turn to read all of the label (which it did) As she stated, there is no specific design of Label holder specified in the legislation for Motorbike use, there are Dept of transport approved holders, but they are approved only, you don't have to use them. And as we agreed the approved holders are pretty much useless for bikes as they are not waterproof, and when the water hits the current printed labels, the ink fades and the Rego label is then illegal and you risk a fine. It's a catch 22 with the Traffic plod in Queensland, Follow the rules and the labels will be ruined due to water getting into the "Approved" holder, ruining the label, so you get a fine. Get a label holder that works, and some over zealous traffic Nazi on a power trip will say it's wrong and then you get a fine anyway. Which then you have to take to court and argue over with a judge that is out of touch with reality anyway, so you'll probably lose and have to pay more money. If the above makes me sound like someone who hates cops, that is not true, I have no issue with the Police in general, It's just the over Zealous traffic branch Cops, that seem to (in Cairns at least) think they can push motorist around and make up the rules as they go along. Post by: monstermick58 on February 13, 2010, 11:46:47 PM Funny thing was told to me at work today, a work colleague and fellow motorcyclist was pulled up on a mates bike for doing 79 in an 70 zone, long story short, he got fined for the tube style rego holder not properly displaying the rego label. Go figure. Cops seem to be running amock on this at the moment.
