Title: Oil light and rain.
Post by: Monster Dave on February 12, 2010, 07:41:51 AM
Hey guys,

I have sort of an odd issue occurring from time to time when it rains and I'm not sure what to make of it. When it rains (which is not very often out here in AZ), and my Duc has gotten wet from sitting outside (at work for example), when I start it up the oil light comes on and stays on!?!?

Under dry conditions, this doesn't happen - ever. I have plenty of oil, and all of my bolts are tightly secured on the motor.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Monster Dave.

The oil light sensor is located on the bottom right of the engine, near where your toes are while riding.  The wire to it is a standard bayonet connector that slides on to a round post on the sensor.  If the connection is a bit loose the water might be affecting it.

Pull back the rubber shield, pull the connector off the post.  Clean the connector and post.  Maybe tighten the connector by squeezing it ever so slightly with some pliers so it's nice and snug when you put it back on the post.  Then put it back together with some dielectic grease to help prevent corrosion.

Do what Scott said. What's happening is that water is getting in there a bit and causing a false signal. IF you do what scott says, especially the dielectic grease part you should be set
