Title: Book Recommendation: "Big Sids Vincati" Post by: DuciD03 on February 12, 2010, 07:49:16 PM "Big Sid's Vincati"
GF bought this for me as a Christmas present. My AC adapter on the laptop fizzled out on my dell 5150 this week ... so It gave me a chance to do some reading in the evenings ... I started this one on Monday and finished by Thursday ... its a quick read but a good true life story of a father and son coming to terms while building a custom bike by mating a GT ducati frame with a vincent engine ... only done 8 times. Sid is an old master mechanic on Vincents.... theres some great technical references on ducatis and vincents and a good story especially for moto enthusiasts. Any others read this, post opinions or have other recommendations; I'll add this to Jole's book collection where ever that thread went ... Another question is does anyone know if Mat or sid are already here?? We should extend the invite; this is there kind of crew ... :) Ride on brother Sid & Mat [moto] Title: Re: Book Recommendation: "Big Sids Vincati" Post by: 1KDS on February 13, 2010, 05:10:27 AM I haven't read the book but it was featured in cycle world or motorcyclist a while back, sweet bike.

The bike was down at Barber this fall and I believe Sid and son were there too. Good stuff. Think I'll get a copy of the book. Thanks. FWIW just finished "One Good Run" (a Burt Munro bio) and liked it waaay better
Title: Re: Book Recommendation: "Big Sids Vincati" Post by: junior varsity on February 13, 2010, 01:41:10 PM I read this awhile back. Fun read, great pictures. I don't expect a lot from the moto-world in regards to literature and some technical writings. It gets the message across, sometimes driving the point home (the end) down a tangential and somewhat unrelated path (the means).
Some of the magazine authors do a bang-up job ...but seem to only ever have an article's worth of thoughts to convey. FWIW just finished "One Good Run" (a Burt Munro bio) and liked it waaay better Ill have to check out "one good run" ... ... my thought was that mat the author struggled writing this being a personal story and a bare all in family relationships ... perhaps for moto lovers we would have liked to hear more on bikes and less on the personal side ... still a in all a good read. I thought I could see the literary talent; there were some flashes of brilliance in some passages and moto references ...
