I have always had a blast at DiTR, gonna do my best to come again this year... maybe not riding though.  Hard to move a bike from florida to CO without the navy getting suspicious.

I'm really going to try to get to Ouray this year.  It's on the weekend of my anniversary (August 7th), but since I was a good little boy and stayed home last year maybe I'll get Papal dispensation to attend this year.  That, and I've sent her to England TWICE in the last calendar year.  Of course, I'm already using that for leverage for this year's racing efforts...so no promises.

I'd really like to meet a few of you, though.  I've never hung with Bonfy, Bick, Punxclever, Randimus Maximus, or even Gloria's ever present sidekick Lance.  And surely Goduc will make an appearance, won't he.  I haven't ridden with him since early last year.

I'll start working on the wife as soon as I finish paying for the fork upgrade, new carb and intake, and cables for the Harley racebike. [thumbsup]

I've said I was coming to the past however-many of these there were.

Thanks for asking, Punx!  Lance is indisposed for reasons I won't go into.  Okay, actually he's busy pitching a ROYAL fit about the fact that he will only be in Ouray if I am there.  He wouldn't hesitate to hitch a ride with one of the local hooligans and go without me.  The job situation is undefined so that is adding an element of suspense, but Ducati in The Rockies is the high point of my riding year so I jump through hoops to make it.  This year won't be any different.  See ya there!  Can't wait!  Lance will bungee-corded to the beer tray of my MONSTER, as always...

Twin Peaks holds the room rate and the block of rooms until July 1.  After that, any available rooms go back to the public rate.

It is best to book as early as possible, as Ouray is a very small town and hotels do fill up.

If all the rooms are booked, start making friends.  There is always someone that is looking to split a room.

And if worse comes to worst, there is always camping by the river.  Actually that is the first choice for some of the gang.

+1, it's a hot spot for off-roading, hiking, horseback, tours, etc. the place is completely booked almost EVERY weekend.  Let alone when a bunch of motorcycle snobs with too much money show up and wreck the town  [evil]

Seriously?  Did you mention the Ducati group?  I don't remember it being that steep last year.  More like $150 a night for a room with two queensize beds  (including tax).  I need to check that out myself.  Still want to stay where the gang and majority of bikes will be.

Price? All said and done last years trip cost me close to $1500. But then I was driving from Texas. [laugh] True, room cost was around $650 for three nights at the BW. But for that price we got free news that a bear had eaten a women up the street which sparked a couple of conversations down at the bar. And got to watch a deer just outside my bathroom window. Watch out for the hot water in the rooms though. JEEEEEEPERS it comes on without notice!! Food fer two wasn't cheap either. Hey, it is what it is and I had one freakin blast doing it even though I couldn't bring the bike. I enjoyed the prose and banter with the group at happy hour. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything...except maybe that no body crashes this year  ??? :P

   DucatiTorri, there are some quite reasonable places to stay in Ouray, not to undermine the effort of several that got the Ducati crew good deals, "I', being the cheap bastard "I" am, have stayed at the Ouray Hotel ($55.00 nite) for quite a few trips 4 wheeling, biking, and DiTR.   Look around, being cheap isn't a valid excuse not to go, hell You can always Pimp Yourself out... ;D   [moto] [moto]

You betcha!  It's the highlight of my year, every year.  So this year, I am in the same boat as you are, dirt poor, just barely employed.  The days of luxury are rearview mirror.  I am still planning to stay where the main group will be, that's just part of the whole experience for me, but I may be sleeping out in the courtyard, or may need to erect a tent down by the river.  But I will be there, hell or high water.   [popcorn]

The docs having given D'lu the green light to ride, coupled with the fact that we may have to go to NM anyways, it looks like we are still in for this thing.

Last Friday my 17 year old iguana died. :'(  I just found out this morning on Facebook that my girlfriend went and got married yesterday to some guy (no lie). ???

Guidelines for Ducati in the Rockies 2010:
1.  Ducati in the Rockies (DitR), it’s organizers or participants in no way condone drinking and driving, whether it be on a motorcycle, a car or a lawn mower.  Period! If you have been drinking, you are drunk or under the influence of any substance, don’t ride or drive, anything.
2.  DitR, it’s organizers or participants are not responsible for anything, ever!  This is, as always, RIDE AT YOUR OWN RISK.  Riding a motorcycle is dangerous, everyone knows it.  You knew what you were getting yourself into when you got into this hobby and there is no way this group made you do anything that you did not want to do.  
3.  As usual, DitR is anticipating people from all over the USA to come and ride some of the most beautiful roads in the country.  Many will be riding these roads for the first time. Make an effort to meet others, take names and phone numbers.  Some of the DitR rides are in the most beautiful places, but they will also have some pretty crappy cell phone coverage. Here are some other helpful hints.
   A.  Don’t ride by yourself, there is no need to.
   B.  Use the “Buddy System”, that way if you break down, run out of gas, fall behind, wreck (hope not) or whatever, you won’t be alone.
   C.  Look out for each other, we are all friends for Pete’s Sakes!
   D.  Maybe the most important, Ride You Own Damn Ride!  Take the time to find people with a similar riding cadence, and then ride with them.
4.  Don’t forget your rain suit.

Stumbled across a great deal on a new (to me) car and had to jump on it.

Unfortunately, the cost of getting it home pretty much drained my Ouray fund.  

I know what your thinking, Ouray is only once a year and cars are everywhere.  Picked this one up thru a dealer contact and purchased it for less than wholesale so I couldn't pass it up.

Bummer Dude...  I was looking forward to getting you drunkled & hangin' out...

Had a mother and daughter look at it tonight (drove up in a Volvo) apparently everyone in their family drives a Volvo, and this will be the daughter's car.  Will know in the morning if it's a done deal.

Also have some guy that tried to buy it out from under them tonight (low ball offer) when I said I would honor my promise to hold it till tomorrow, he seemed relieved and wants to know if they take it or not.  I think he may have been testing me to see if I was an honest seller.

I had a bit of an argument with a ladder last friday... Today, I realized my back hates me for it.

I'll be driving to Ouray to save my back for riding in Ouray.

I'll probably run chase with the bunch leaving 7am from Denver, and returning to Denver on Sunday.  If anyone wants some gear hauled back Sunday, let me know.

Memorable weekend...

Was the weather okay? Did you manage to get some riding in?

Some rain showers Saturday, but I think lots of people got in 300-350 mile rides. No rain on Sunday.

Loads of fun. Glad I managed to make it. Of course, the brakes went out on my car on the trip home and one of the straps holding my Duc down snapped but you can't win them all. And only 3 run-ins with law enforcement for me for the weekend...

hopefully in the next couple of days matt can get the videos that we got up for y'all....

After numerous run-ins with state troopers in Colorado several years ago, I swore I would never step foot in that state again. So far, so good.

Most definitely. Colorado is beautiful. But those state troopers have a field day when they see out-of-state plates. I had a state trooper follow me for about 20 minutes coming down a mountain pass (I was driving a car with California plates). I was going a couple ticks UNDER the speed limit. Well, after 20 minutes, he finally thought of something he could pull me over for, and his lights lit up.

I pulled over. He comes up to me and says, "do you know why I pulled you over?".

I said "I have no idea, but I can't wait to hear it."

Officer: "Well, did you see that police vehicle we passed about a quarter mile back on the side of the road with its lights flashing?"

Me: "Yeah...why?"

Officer: "Well, the state law is that you are required to change into the next lane as you pass a stopped emergency vehicle, to give them extra room."


Me: "And how was I supposed to know that?"

I know you are aware of the no cops talk rule...

So...

when I suspend you you'll whine about what?
