Title: motodynamics tail light
Post by: He Man on February 18, 2010, 08:06:30 PM
Does anyone have one, theres only the stock video and stock pictures of it. Just wanted to know if its any better than the clear alternatives one.

Mine got busted and its probably going to be busted again, however ive repaired it so many times, i dont think it will make it anymore.

I want the vizitech, but it isnt battle tested, and i dont want to end up breaking it and crying.

Awesome looking unit.  I love mine.  Fit and finish is excellent.  Only thing I want is built in licence plate lighting... but you cant win em all.  Unless you want the vizi-tech unit.

I just got my vizi-tec unit in the mail and that thing is built tough.  I have no doubt it would survive what even He Man can throw at it.  That said, it is pricy enough to justify that toughness.

The vizi-tec light is a wonderful piece, but HeMan's luck is capable of destroying anything motorcycle related in the known universe.

I could not in good conscience recommend such a wonderful piece of kit knowing his luck.  ;)

My last one went perpendicular to the ground 2 times in the span of about 2 weeks and then to top it off a car ran over my seat and caused a few leds to pop off. After about 2 months sitting in my garage, i took it for a spin and my  tail chop kit snapped from all the abuse (but i think it was mostly the car running it over) and it went for a ride slapping my rear wheel for about 1/2 mile before i noticed thus rendering 1/2 the LEDS useless.

is it tough enough to withstand that?  ;D

Whoa.

I think only Bernard could speak to that.  I'd reluctant to subject anything of mine to that sort of abuse.

I got one and i like it a lot. I also got that 4 led license plate light you suggested and it fits underneath perfectly. It comes with the little wiring harness, which made it easy peasy lemon squeezy

I have the vizi tech light.  So far it has held up well.  I got caught in a torrential downpour, hail included (5 minutes of riding and I poured almost a cup of water out of a single boot) and it still works the same as new.

I believe that Bernard @ Vizi-Tec only has parts to make one remaining rear taillight (as of Friday) -- then no more for awhile.  So if you have been waiting, don't hesitate to get the last one.

I've got a spare MotoLED board (direct plug-in to stock wiring) and a Buell windowed tail light lens (same shape as OEM, same manufacturer even, just has a window) (there's white leds at the bottom of the MotoLED board to illuminate the lic plate)

holla if you are interested. the info for the board can be found on MonsterParts. [thumbsup]

no flashing. just really bright compared to stock bulbs. here's the description:

QuoteInfo from MOTO-LED about the LED Taillight Board Moto-LED only uses only high quality and high power LED's which are used in premium cars like MercedsBenz, Audi or BMW.
One reason is the "light angle". This means the higher the angle, the better the light.
Take for example a laser-pointer. This unit has an angle of approx. 2-4 degrees which gives it a very small light point.
The LED's used have a light angle from approx. 70 to 75 degrees and have four pins to fix it on the panel.
This gives a maximum mechanical attachment and stability against vibrations and the optimal light angle.
But these LED's are not cheap and this is why you get what you pay for. A lot of LED companies use the very cheap little round 3mm to 5mm LED's that have a light angle from approx. 15 to 30 degrees.and only have 2 pins.
So this can create problems with vibrations, as you can imagine. The Brightness of this cheap round LED's is very low. To get the needed brightness it is necessary to use a higher number of LED's.
To get the right brightness for the brakelight it is being overpowered which will reduce the life of the LED. We have investigated LED-Panels from two competitors and found the overpower confirmed. For the brakelight the power consumption is way to high.
Another point is following: On our the taillight panels we use 6 separate power circuits, on the indicator 4. If one LED fails a max 4 LED's will not work, the other 20 LED's are still working. So it is nearly impossible for an complete failure of an Panel.
Another very important point is the licence plate lighting. All our model have an integrated license plate lighting if this is necessary for the model.
install note- 06+ will require some trimming of the taillight reflector to fit LED board

Something about the motodynamics unit that came up for me today...

The Bad:
The lens actually VIBRATED off while I was going down the road... it looks like the glue job that secured the lens to the unit wasn't very good... not sure why it doesn't just have screws that go into standoffs on the board to hold the lens on.  Maybee mine was a lemon?

The Good:
Called up Motodynamics, told them what happened.  Guy basically said, "That sucks, yours is still under warranty so we'll shit out a new one today."

Not as high a quality unit as Vizi_tec, but at least the customer service is good!

what if their assholes are shaped that way? wouldnt be that bad then. all they need to eat is a strict diet of plastic and silicone...some tin and lead. maybe some Sirachi to get the solder to melt.
