I have someone interested in my S4 wheels, I calculated cost through DHL, Fed X and UPS. Least expensive was $401 through DHL. Does that seem about right to Europe?

wow, that's alot
he's in Portugal not the moon. it's kinda cheap here country to country i think. i might be able to work with your buyer to work a deal and send it to my apo in germany. save him some money.
tell him to pm me.
So much depends on dimensional weight when shipping it's tough to say if that's right or not.
Is the box as small as possible?
also, did you mail each wheel separately? you can make pretty small boxes that way. and no tire or with tire?
if you talk to him tell him to check how much sending from germany from 66909
and you can check how much sending via USPS express to APO AE 02963
that might cut the costs down alot
Local guys here (Norway, not Portugal though) have used a company called JetCarrier. IIRC they are located close to New York. Misleading name perhaps, because it's by boat - very affordable when it's heavy/bulky stuff.
Going by boat is def much cheaper, might take awhile.Still ok though.
Got it booked with USPS for around $120. Much better
the buyer will have to pay handling charges and customs duty in Europe probably about 15% of value
USPS is the only one that does a 'regular' shipping.
UPS, etc are all an overnight service (usually 2-3days)
sounds like you got it to work, but wheels get pretty close to the max size for USPS
