Title: Re: bike down on geary and spruce Post by: Spidey on February 22, 2010, 03:02:15 PM Apparently, it was a HD/cruiser. The third-hand story goes something like this: speed, then emergency braking, then a highside. Wearing only a brain bucket. Got taken by ambulance. Pool of blood by the bike.

Title: Re: bike down on geary and spruce Post by: Spidey on February 22, 2010, 06:24:53 PM Eyewitness account --
Quote I witnessed the whole thing. I was riding in the #1 lane heading towards DT. As I approached the red light at Stanyan two riders fly by in the #2 lane and stop at the light. Then suddenly another riders flies up behind them and couldn't stop for the light and ended up locking up his rear tire and the bike washed out from under him. He slid across the intersection (lucky there wasn't any cross traffic) and hit the median curb right after his bike hit it first. I'm and EMT and Reserve Firefighter and was able to help him out. I was able to remove his helmet and hold C-Spine until medics came. From what I saw he was knocked unconscious from the impact, had labored breathing and had a large hematoma on his right parietal lobe(big bump on his head) and I felt some broken ribs and a broken clavicle. He never regained consciousness on the scene and that's all I know of his condition. I hope he made it through and heals up. As for his gear, it was non existent except for his helmet which wasn't even DOT certified. :facepalm Gear up and ride safe people! Title: Re: bike down on geary and spruce Post by: MendoDave on February 24, 2010, 07:22:28 AM You know that spruce gets wet and slippery in the rain. Especially the spruce roots with no bark on them. Guess that's whats happened, one of those slippery roots was sticking through the pavement and his front end just washed out. He should have stayed off Spruce street with those tires.
Title: Re: bike down on geary and spruce Post by: Orangettes on February 27, 2010, 09:24:17 PM I drove by that night and the eastbound Geary was completely blocked for hours. The bike was a red ducati 888 or 900ss not too badly damaged. My first instinct was a biker hit-and-run by a car at the intersection.
I had a sudden emotion when I saw that bike laid down on the road. because I just broke my clavicle bone 4 weeks ago and totaled my scooter. I have never thought about I can highside a scooter at any city speed. The accident was all contributed by the wet road + muni rails. I drag my knees for 14+ years without a single broken nails, I was so pissed and I still am!! Ride safe. Title: Re: bike down on geary and spruce Post by: ducjon on February 28, 2010, 01:48:43 PM Different accident... This accident was a black HD.. and it was like 2pm or something.. Too long before to be the same wreck.

If I ever go down, leave my freaking helmet on unless CPR is needed. Although this sounds like a half helmet, cervical damage is too easily done by removing a rider's bucket. Still, sounds like some squid work from the observer's account. Hope he comes out OK. Title: Re: bike down on geary and spruce Post by: Orangettes on March 02, 2010, 10:44:48 PM Different accident...
