Title: Women's Gear....
Post by: dolci on May 06, 2008, 10:07:12 AM
what fits/what doesn't........

I think Alpinestars tend to fit a little smaller than the size chart indicates.

I also think Joe Rocket can be problematic for the tall and thin.  I got the trixie jacket in an xs and the thing barely covers my stomach and is too big at the bottom (cuz it should be on my hips and not my waist).  I think the xs size works for petite women (as in short) and not just for the slender.

Dainese and Rev'It have worked well for me (5'4", slender).

Anybody know of pants, specifically leather, that will work well with short (5'2) and .... hippy? Like Neenjah, I have a ghetto booty and thighs.

On the short side (5'4") with a medium build.  Everything ends up either too long, too short or not fitting on one or another of my parts.

Nothing fits me off the rack.  5'9 and I wear a 10 pants and 14 top.  I have looong arms and broad shoulders.  The small waist means that a guys jacket will fit the shoulders and arms, but not the waist/ hips.

I've got the hips and the chest, and got MotoGP gear, and it's a little loose in a couple of places, but it will work for the track, so I can't complain.
I think that the styles that I got had been discontinued for the year, but you might try going to your local shop, trying on all sorts of things, then before you commit to buying anything at the shop...CHECK E BAY!!!!
They had my pants listed for $349 and Jacket for $379. I found each piece on ebay for $124 each!
I sent the links to my shop, and they just about matched the internet price...so not only did I get a smokin deal, but I also got instant gratification!
Not bad, huh?
I spent almost as much just on my gloves as I did on my suit.......same with my boots......my helmet is the kicker though.....after getting the best, it's off to the airbrushers to get worked on, so in the end, nearly $1000 just for a helmet!!!
OUCH, but it will be the only one of its kind AND the Shoei rep wants to see it.......I'm just hoping that he gets pics, and can get some graphics work out of the kid.

I'm curious to see what the helmet looks like - must be very cool!

Gear for smaller women - I'm 5' tall and Dainese gear fits very well, even the length.

Woo hoo!!

Another with hips and junk in the trunk!!

Have never found a pair of pants that fit off the rack.  I can fit a men's 52 or 54 Dainese Jacket pretty good.  On the 54 suit I have to have the sleeve taken in a little, too big around the fore arm.  The pants for my suit also have to tailored to accomidate my junk and hips.

The biggest problem with jackets is that they ride up due to the size difference btwn my hip and waist.  Wearing my back protector helps keeps them down though.

The best fitting jacket I have had is the Cortech Magnum leather that I'm selling (http://ducatimonsterworldwide.org/index.php?topic=1074.0).   It never rode up and accomidated my copious chest.

Yay for junk in the trunk! At this point, I'm thinking I'm going to have to by the size that fits my butt and thighs and tailor the hell out of it. I'm lucky (or unlucky, however you want to look at it) to have a smaller upper body and boobs so I'm good up there. I have a tex Ducati 80s jacket that fits awesome.

If anyone is similar on the top end, I'll post more size specs if you need/want them.

I hear you...I'm shaped like a pear, smaller top big boo-tay and thighs...could not find anything to fit right off the rack, especially for track days...My husband and I went to Vanson Leathers, and I had a custom suit made.  Wasn't cheap...Had a baby (he's 18months old now..amazing how fast time flys)and still battling with some of my pregger wieght, haven't gone near the race suit, afraid it would bum me out...

For the street I have Alpinestars Gear, GP Plus gloves small...pre-woman sized gloves...anyone out there have current woman sized golves, how is the fit?  the ones I have are big, but they were sized for men small bought them in 2000.  Was thinking about the Dianese Ducati Corse gloves, any one have these either? I think they are only available in men sizes...

BTW: I like that there is a place for the Duc-Women to gather  wt:  :wine

Anybody have some experience with Fieldsheer? Currently I'm running a Joe Rocket Ladies Nova jacket but looking to trade that one in this season for something with a full jacket liner and some other goodies. I haven't heard much either way about their quality or crash-wortiness so I'm rather curious. I haven't really seen another jacket that has everything I want so I'm kind of stuck on a Fieldsheer kick.
http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/2/49/2451/ITEM/Fieldsheer-Womens-Judy-TX-Jacket.aspx (in red, or course!)

I'm about 4'11" tall, 34" bust, 26" waist, and at their widest part probably 36" in the hips with a shapely bum. 27" inseam. Finding gear to fit my frame is a PITA (especially the bottom half- everything under the sun is waaaay too long or goes up under my tatas because I have a really short torso).

For street pants I wear the Olympia Ladies Mustangs (textile) and they are awesome! The bottoms are actually designed to be hem friendly. I just folded mine under so they looked nice and hand tacked them in a couple of spots, that way I can still alter the length any time without having had a full seam run through them. For gloves I'm wearing Held Limits and so far I really like them.

I was really excited to see a ladies only gear thread so keep the reviews and info coming!

Glad you found your way over.

What size Helds do you wear?  Do you know what size woman's gloves that would be?  I having a difficult time finding gloves that fit properly.

As soon as I get home I will take a look for you. I have micro little hands and the Helds are the only gloves that have been the right length in the fingers so far. I had a pair of A* before and the fingers were like 3/4" too long. It was super annoying.

I've got TINY hands, and I ot the last pair of Helds at my shop, say size 7S
Just thought that I would pass that along, fit nice, a little long, but I REALLY like them, still trying to get them to soften up a touch.
Oh my, I suppose that means that I will have to ride more......darn!  [laugh]

I have TONS of fieldsheer gear and love it.  The womens sizes actually fit me  -  I am 5'7" and 195 lbs (big boned) and a former swimmer/athlete.  I have broad shoulders and a wide waste.  The womens fieldsheer sizes fit me perfect.  The mens pants I have don't have enough hip space, but it's because they are men's pants.  I have 3 fieldsheer jackets and one pair of pants and I love them!

I bought a Dainese jacket and pants (leather) that zip together. They fit me well. I'm 5'5" and 140 pounds. Okay, I've always been around 140ish, but I'm probably squeaking closer to 150. I should, but won't, give up on the giant burritos and cokes. I like candy too. In fact I had a cow at work today, because our Friday Treats were nasty fruit and yogurt. Everyone knows that Fridays involve donuts. Oops, I'm off topic.

Anyway I really like my leathers and just need to get better gloves. My only really good gloves are heated and the wires are not too comfy.

What about boots?!  I'm having a hard time finding good fitting ones.  Size 7. Really like the safety features & styling of the Sidi B2 but the euro size 39 was too big & can't find (or they dont make?) a 38 - which I'm thinking would be about right.  Pants need to fit inside the boot.

Any suggestions?!  Thanks!

I have the Sidi vertigos, which is a step up from the B2's. They are a size 37 Euro so you will def be able to get them in your size. The great thing about them is the calf adjusts so you can tighten then to go under jeans or make them bigger to fit leathers in. I love them.

Title: Re: Women's Gear....
Post by: DesmoDiva on May 18, 2008, 04:59:51 AM
I also have the Sidi Vertigo's in size 37.  So they definately make them small enough.  And as Neenja said the calf adjustment is awesome, but not available in the B2s.   I ordered mine through my dealer.

MotoNation, Sidi's US distributer, shows the B2 availble down to a size 37 in their catalog, but not on the website. Have your local shop call them (motonation) to see if they can special order the 38.

Right, that's actually what kept me from getting the B2's was the lack of calf adjustment.

I'm big on top but average on the bottom. I wear an Alpinestars leather jacket and it accommodates my rack very well. Nice curvy shape too. As for gloves, I would try Racer and Dainese. There's a so-so selection of Dainese women's gloves, but the men's gloves are unisex (the larger sizes are for men), have a wider selection, and go all the way down to Extra Small (Small fits me fine).

I have Sidi Vertigo Corsas and they expand waaaaay out to accommodate larger calves with leathers.  They also adjust in so that if you've thrown them on under textile pants, they aren't massive.

Hey Em how thick would you say the soles are? When I start shopping for new boots this is going to be one of the main things I'll be looking for (besides comfort, obviously). I shaved the seat on my bike this weekend and got myself about 3/4 of an inch lower, but I'm still on the balls of my feet and not very stable.

Not all that thick at all.  They are racing boots, so they're designed to be lightweight and easy to feel controls with while providing adequate protection.  If you're looking for taller heels, there are some women's touring boots that have a thicker heel than these.  I don't recommend these for any situation where you'll be walking around in them at all.  They're pretty clunky to walk around in.  Whenever I wear them on the street, I always bring another pair of shoes to throw on.

I went to a party with a girlfriend in Adams Morgan.  Everyone was THRASHED by the time I got there.  I rode the scoot in so I would be able to park easily, but crashed the night at her place (not the party house).  So I was trying to navigate my way up the stone steps that were already very slick with beer, ice, liquor, mixers, and things I don't really want to think about.  People were bumping into me and I don't want to know how many sandaled toes I crushed.  It was pretty bad.

I have a pair of first gear mesh pants that I love.  New Enough has em here (http://www.newenough.com/browse/view_product_images/144)

They fit my curvy body real well and are plenty cool when riding in the 90s with high humidity.

Sizing is pretty accurate too.

I wear Olympia Ladies Mustang pants and I like them well enough. They're cut like jeans (with a higher waist of course) and the bottoms are designed so they are very easy to hem for a perfect fit. I don't know if you would necessarily call them hot weather riding pants, but they are medium weight and I find them bearable in the summer (unless it's really humid).

They are no longer on Olympia's site, but this place is very good to work with:

This is another option from Olympia and this is also a great place to deal with:

If you find a pair of boots that you like - you could always take them to a shoe repair place and they can add an insert of material to the sole that gives you more height.  I had about a half inch added to mine - little less than 1/2 inch towards front and little over half an inch under heel - they were taperd.  I usually do a one footed stop and the extra height really helps!

I have a Teknic Supervent jacket and love love love it.  It's a size 8 which is usually what I wear in regular clothing.  It's super comfy, washes well and has adjustments on the waist and upper arm - convenient for my ever-evolving form.   I've had it for 3 years and will get another one when this is worn out. [thumbsup]

I wear the leather Alpinestars Stella 7-2 and it is not quite as accomodating (also size 8 ).  I find A*'s sizes kind of odd - the jacket is roomy in the waist but all squishy in the boobs.  I love the color & style though (I'm a pink whore), and am hoping that it will stretch a little over time.  I've probably only worn it 5 or 6 times due to the nice weather we've been having.

I also have A* leather pants.  They go up way past my belly button and are too tight at the waist.  Then they have all this extra space around the butt and thighs.   :-\   They are a size 12 and I usually wear an 8.

Also sporting the A* boots, which I love.  No women's gloves seem to fit my short, fat mutant hands.  So I wear Alpinestars, mens' size small.

I have the misfortune of living in the middle o' nowhere and usually have to order my gear without having seen it or tried it on in advance.   These reviews help!!!

I love my Ducati textile 80's jacket. It has armor in it and has done pretty well on 90+ degree days in high humidity. It doesn't work in the rain though. It fits me very well, although it rides up a smidge in the back. I'm only a small C so it fits great around the boobage but I suspect ladies with more blessings than I might find it a bit snug up there.

Also, I have the Joe Rocket Ballistic 5.0 pants. They Rock! They're several inches too long but I finally found some pants that fit my butt and thighs (problem area for me). They're great winter pants.

Still trying to find summer pants and a waterproof/winter jacket. Here's what I was thinking about for the jacket: http://www.newenough.com/protective_apparel/textile_jackets_and_pants/tour_master/ladies_transition_series_2_textile_motorcycle_jacket.html (http://www.newenough.com/protective_apparel/textile_jackets_and_pants/tour_master/ladies_transition_series_2_textile_motorcycle_jacket.html)

I've had really good luck with calling the company customer service department for anything I am interested in and asking to speak with a female rep to determine the true size for me.  Then you can be comfortable saying stuff like "my gigantic a$$ (or ghetto booty) and thunder thighs" without feeling creeped out.  The scary thing is how widely the sizes range for pants (so far, my jackets have all been L and they seem to fit fine, though some not as well as others)--I'm a 5' 2--3" size 10 and I've looked at gear that would make me something like XXXL for one company and M for another.  I like the M just fine, but the XXXL????  Come on, that's just hurful!  [laugh]

For jackets, I have all size L, but there are some differences I've noticed.  As someone said earlier, Joe Rocket seems short in the torso (which is fine, since I am too) and loose in the waist/tight in the bust.  Icon seems to fit the curves pretty well, as does Power Trip.  Scorpion is a little tight in the bust, but also has more adjustments along the sides which help you work around that.

For pants, I have A* XL, which are big enough to wear multiple layers under, such as long undies plus flannel-lined jeans; Rev'it 42 which fit really well and am waiting on Scorpion XL pants, which, judging from the M size I saw in the store, may not be big enough.  As someone who lost a lot of weight in the last few years (65 lbs--whoo-hoo!!)and has worked really hard to keep it off, I find it really annoying that I can buy medium shorts or pants in a regular store, but need XL (or bigger!) in gear, but those pants were just tooo cute not to give it a try!   [cheeky]

The ballistic pants I mentioned above are good for the cooler weather to throw on over dress pants. The're roomy enough and I've found them to be very comfortable. I haven't found anything yet for summer weather so I'm anxious to see suggestions...

Ok, just bought the Tourmaster Transition Series 2 jacket. I got it in black, a small, and it fits awesome.

Chest area:
I'm not .... gifted  ;) in the chest area (a full B, small C) so its not tight across the chest. There's room for some bigger boobage but a small will start getting tight pretty quick I would think.

Shoulders:
I had to move around one of the shoulder armor pieces but they fit well. Decent articulation for a heavy weight, waterproof jacket with armor and insulated liner.

Arms:
I wish they were a smidge longer but they provide plenty of coverage and look like they'll do especially well protecting from those pesky wrist drafts that occur.

Waist:
LOVE! Its highly adjustable in this area. I have a small waist but big hips so it was nice to be able to cinch the waist in to fit better. Plenty of room for those who need it as well.

Hips:
This jacket is a good length I think. When standing, it ends midway down my butt, maybe a little longer. Also, it has a zipper attachment, both the male and female parts so you can take the extra piece and sew it into a pair of pants.

I'm going to take it for a true test ride tomorrow and then all of next week I'll test it out in chillier (PNW) weather as opposed to the 80-90 degree weather we're having in NC right now.

The jacket is more of a winter/rain jacket. It has great reflective stripes and all sorts of nifty pockets. I like pockets.

I'll take some pics of me wearing it tomorrow and let you girls know how it works.

They are easy off & on and fit true to size. Hope that helps.    [thumbsup]

Tini, you're the best!!!!!
I can't find the other pics, I know that they are on my hard drive somewhere......I suppose I should get rid of all of the stupid pictures that I find and keep, or at least organize them, so that I can find the 360 degree pics of the $1K helmet.
That and I need to start thinking up ideas for the next one. You can never have too much gear.......or t least that is what I keep saying.

Do any of you ladies have any experience with this: http://www.newenough.com/pricing/private/2482

I'm looking for a jacket that will attach to my jean belt loops since my Ducati 80s jacket rides up a bit and can get drafty.

Thoughts? (lemme know if the link doesn't work)

I don't have that particular jacket, but my mesh does have the belt loop thingies.

They do help preventing the back of the jacket from riding up.   [thumbsup]

that looks like a good solution JB  [thumbsup] but i'm not a fan of the joe rocket gear...

i have that problem with my motoGP jacket... my alpinestars is longer, and doesn't ride up as much.

in the summer.... i get a sunburn on my lower back  [laugh] and if i'm wearing jeans... you can see my underwear  :-\

Cool. Thanks for the thoughts ladies. I got one more for ya. I've got a pair of Joe Rocket Ballistic 5.0 textile pants that I love but they don't seem to be very waterproof and aren't as warm under 50 degrees unless I wear a ton of layers. So I was looking at these for a winter/wet riding pant (which I will probably need in the PNW):

Thoughts? I've got a Nice Tour Master jacket already to go with them.

JB, I commute wearing the Joe Rocket Ballistic 7.0 in high 30 and low 40 degree mornings and they keep me warm and dry.  They have a waterproof liner which protects against the wind and rain.  I had to ride home in the rain last Friday and they did a great job along with my Scorpion textile jacket which is also waterproof.  Its a great buy if you want to stick with Joe Rocket.   [thumbsup]
