..by a dopey cow in a mini who pinned me between her and a parked 3 series. The cylinders saved me from crushed but i flew 15 meters according to the police. Get well quick, glad to hear you're alive and kicking, bikes can always be replaced.

Holy shit man... I'm surprised your taking the time to post - that's a good sign though.
How'd the cow pull off such a manuver?
Dude. Glad you're still alive!
I guess it's a good thing you were on a boxer-powered bike, and not a Duc. (?)
Heal quickly, amigo!
Holy crap! Glad you're ok!
Now you have something to throw at anyone who mocks those cylinders again.

I don't know about woman liking scars, those you may find at the woman's outreach program but that's another story. So sorry to hear what happened to you. Hopefully you will recover quickly. Luckily "Little Miss Moosky" gets hers. What is with people not seeing bikes? It's a total case of WTF. It's always someone cow on a cell phone, who tries to blame you. People don't realize that if they hit a bike likelihood is that the person is gonna go flying off and get injured. It's the nerve of these cagers that gets me. In the end Karma is a pregnant dog. Get better man.

Glad to hear you are OK, Best wishes on a speedy recovery. Get a lawyer and make sure her insurance pays for
everything, medical/lost wages, everything.
Oh man! that truly SUXXXX!
Heal quickly, ride again, best of luck to you.
1st let me say how sorry I am to hear of your most unfortunate mishap .That kind of body damage really sets a person back, I should know since I've mentioned many times on the Forum that I am about 8 weeks out from a crash that broke 4 ribs, punctured a lung which required a Thoracotamy ( major surgery) , 2 sprained ankles and alot of soft tissue damage to my right side. I don't know when I'll ride again. My Surgeon wants me not to ride any more this year but I am going to try and prove him wrong . I hope you heal well and do your therapy and hopefully you will be riding by this Fall. Be careful if you are taking Percocets that you don't stay on them any longer than absolutely needed. Addiction can be a issue after a month but if what ever pain meds you are taking now doesn't make you fairly comfortable to where you can sleep, don't hesitate to tell you Doctor that they aren't working for you. Constipation will be an issue with pain meds so you can take stool softeners -just small capsules and drink plenty of water. Best of luck , it's a bummer, it's not fair, but it is reality, I feel for you and many other everyday.
Get better fast man. That sucks you just got that bike too. Any pics of the wreckage?
Heal quickly bro, and my condolences. I hope everything works out for you in the end.
DoubleEagle gave some great advice regarding the painkillers too. And, if the doctors aren't being proactive, make sure to keep bugging them!
broken femurs, ankles and knee caps, and neck? and they let you out of the hospital already?
or did you escape?
get better bro
Dude, how do they initially diagnose you with a COMPOUND femur fracture when it was only muscle and tendon damage? Compound means bone through skin.
After all of that, I'm glad you are relatively OK. Please tell me she stuck around to get cited...
I'm so sorry about the accident, I'm very glad to hear you are relatively ok. Bummer about the bike, but it can be replaced.

I just re-read the initial post. It makes more sense now. I was thinking it was compound fractures and muscle & tendon damage. Now I understand why he is out of the hospital so quickly.
I went to the hospital recently with what I thought was a broken arm. It was shaped like a question mark. The doctor looked at it and said your arm is definitely broken. When they X-rayed it, there was no break. The muscles were so knotted up from the impact that it actually twisted my arm.
I wish you all the best and I am very glad it wasn't as bad as I first thought.
Shite. shite. shite. shite!
Damn it, nutts, I'm sorry!
I hope you get better fast and the 'ho in the mini gets a raging case of . . . something really bad!

Sorry to hear this, it sucks. Hope the pregnant dog has good insurance. Heal quickly and take care.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery! I don't think I ever remember so many major crashes in such a short period. We had two guys on our local board (CAM) who crashed last weekend. One was a one bike oopsie and the other was an evil pregnant dog in a BMW who was clearly at fault and didn't even look at Ryan to see if he was alive. The former broke an ankle and burned a finger and the latter broke both femurs, among other things.
Ride like you're invisible to everyone except the [leo].
So sorry to hear this Kurt, Wish you a speedy recovery and hope to see you in September.

Like everyone here, I'm damn pleased you are in one piece - bruised, bloodied, but still with us.
I also appreciate you're going to be unhappy bordering on depressed re the HP2. We all of us love our bikes. The HP2 was a work of art, no question, and I'm sorry for the loss.
Heal well, Nutts.
Thanks for all the thoughts! very much appreciated. A big thank you from Ana, Indira (daughter) and myself.
The paramedics, after cutting my prized denim into ribbons.. they finished off what the asphalt didn't do, saw my leg swollen up and thought of the hemorrage inside and basically told me
" you can't move your ankles, your left leg or bend you left leg. you right ankle is swollen and probably broken also ".
Once at the hospital and after the xrays they gave me the all clear bone wise but when they tried to stand me up I got dizzy and lost consciousness and they lay me down and lowered the head end of the bed and raised the leg end. I came back and they tried to stand me up again after a couple of hours and I got dizzy and fainted again... soo, they did a CAT scan on my head/neck.
I got the all clear after they rec'd the results and got discharged from the hospital.
It's all muscular, thank God. People say it was bad luck... I say, I'm lucky. I could have been paralyzed or worse. I'm happy to be alive and the pain will help me reflect on what happened and try to avoid situations like this.
The lady (probably 18-20 y/o) who caused my anguish came to visit me with her brother and was all broken up inside, she couldn't stop crying and my wife had to end up comforting her!
Bike will be fixed or the insurance co. will give me another one. What a make the beast with two backsing shame, of only 3 that are known to currently exist in Spain.. 1 is kaput. I hope I can buy it off the insurance co. as scrap and build something out of it or use it for spares.. or anything else perverse my mind can think up.
For all who've asked for pictures... WTF? I'm on the road screaming in agony.. DO YOU REALLY THINK I'VE GOT TIME TO TAKE PICTURES??? What is wrong with people?
My workmate, Fernando, did take some with his cell phone which I 'll post up when he forwards them onto me.

it is interesting to see that you are already considering riding again. i was the same way. however the bike is a different story. i built my bike bigger and better that it was before i crashed it. but i still didn't like riding it anymore. i don't know why but thats the way i am. maybe you should add a poll to this thread. new bike or fix the old one? i would be interested in what everyone elsethinks. sorry to give you extra work while you are down, but maybe it will make the time go by a little quicker ;D

Well, I've done a good 782km with the HP2. Initial impressions compared to the S4Rs (with or without DP Termi kit)
Suspension: the telelever/evo paralever setup was weird at first but once I got used to it.. I wish all bikes had this system as it just doesn't dive when you brake. The bike has very fast turn in with the Michelin Pilot Power 2CTs and their aggressive profile. The bike tracks a line like a Ducati and has decent feedback buuut, it's not anywhere as informative as a set of well setup forks. The Ohlins seem better quality than the S4Rs, the rear shock especially!
Brakes: from another planet. A 1098 stops very well, an S4Rs has amazingly sharp reactions but this bike has progressive (Magura) master cylinder on the brakes and stops like no other bike can. The sports ABS hasn't kicked in yet.
Engine: Low down drive (didn't take it past 4300rpm) is grunty and much more powerful than a desmodue or a testastretta. This is a 1200cc air cooled twin. It's got more real torque than a 1098 to give you an idea of how much punch it has... and peak torque is at 5000rpm or so. Didn't finish the break in period so I don't know what 9000rpm feels like driving up through that quickshifter.
Gearbox: very good, not Ducati/Suzuki slick but, that quickshifter is a blessing. All bikes MUST come with one!!! I'm looking to put a DP quickshift on my 749.
Lights: all lights except the headlight are LEDs and illuminate very very very well. The headlight illuminates so well that once when riding home with my iridium visor on a cloudy night I could see as well as the monster with a clear visor.
Dash unit: words can't describe the contrast, illumination, ease of manipulation, amount of info, expandability etc. Ducati wish they could offer this on a road bike. The 1098 unit is very good but for plain old showing off nothing out there touches this!
Build quality: amazing, the welding, quality of paint, fit and finish, quality of CF etc. is truly amazing, much better than the S4Rs
One must take into account that this bike cost 21,600EUR compared to the 15,000EUR a S4Rs costs now but, even if you compared the HP2 Sport to a 1098S i'd still pick the BMW.
BTW. Those cylinders don't get in the way and to touch them down in street riding you'd be on your way to a crash landing. I've worn the tyres to their edges front and back, without pushing the bike, and the cylinder heads are miles away from touching the deck.
An amazing bike. I'll be back riding in 2 weeks, that's my goal. The bike WILL back soon.

Kurt, you are lucky and unlucky all at the same time. Amazing story! Get well soon and I hope you get the bike fixed/replaced soon.
So how, exactly, does this girl pin you into a parked car? (Van takes out Bimmer and Bimmer) Was she going to crash into the parked 3 series and you just happened to be in the way or was she just out of control and mowing down things in her path like you and the 3? How this shit happens fascinates me. That is, are people really that brain dead and driving? I guess so, eh.
Sending some positive vibes your way [thumbsup]

I know I wont buy one this Yr. But, I will be keeping my eyes open. Still gotta sell this R1150R & this big pig Suzuki/Davadison.
Thanx for the comparison.
I'm just being an over-sensitive girl about things today. My apologies for taking it the wrong way when I was asked for pictures.
Gear Review post crash..
Arai RX7 helmet, don't buy anything else - it's saved my head as it was the first point of contact on the ground and I bounced off my head a'la Sete Gibernau. I've crashed with one last year on the Rs also and I've survived scratch free. I'm ordering a new one as soon as I get some cash from the insurance co. for one.
Triumph Speed Triple collection leather jacket - not a scratch!
Alpinestars GP Pro Gloves - I've had 3 crashes with these and they are still like new and my hands are intact and in superb condition.
River Island jeans.. they were ripped to start off with, didn't help my knees with the road rash
Puma sneaks.. don't wear them, you'll end up with twisted ankles.
I don't usually ride with sneaks, I was going from one office to another and couldn't be asked to put my boots on. Please don't do what I did. I'm going to invest in a neck brace and some more business-like bike attire to wear in my day to day riding.. and another Arai.

Damn Kurt :o Just logged on after a long weekend and read this! Glad you're going to be ok. Best of luck for a speedy recovery.
jubuz shit man
Recovery is coming along well at full steam ahead. No valium required for now. Hopefully the paperwork gets sorted this week, then I'll decide to take legal proceedings or not.

Acabo de leer esto por primera vez! No puedo creer que esto te haya pasado! Que lastima lo de tu moto, pero por lo que veo ya te vas a comprar otra..
Lo importante es que tu estas bien...
Espero que esa maldita pague por lo que hizo...
Any crash you can walk away from is lucky.
Any crash you live through is blessed.
So maybe you aren't lucky, but you are blessed. Heal up and get back on!
Just saw this today
Sorry dude, that sucks. Feel better soon. I'm sending what I have left of my good energy over to you!! [beer]

I want a BMW btw.
Man that really sucks that you got hit like that... I wish you the best of luck.
And face cancer for the moron that hit you. [evil]
Get well, and get back out there! [thumbsup] [moto]
Hope you get well soon [thumbsup]
I am most glad to see that you lived to post about it - wishing you a speedy recovery.
Also, you are going to elaborate on how you don't bruise. You aren't a security guard at a football stadium by any chance? Been approached by any one with brittle bone syndrome lately? Lone survivor of a train accident?

Well.. I had an omellete, tall glass of freshly squeezed OJ, a banana and OJ smoothie and a nice cup of tea. I hope I don't put on weight with all this sitting around.

Well a friend was just reminding me yesterday... I've never broken a major bone (only had a hairline fracture in a finger that got trapped in a Volvo S80 door.. and even that was nothing), had several near death experiences, had a major highside last year and didn't even get the complimentary broken collar bone.. well I did have a small facial fracture when I was 9-10 y/o I fell from a top bunk head first onto a concrete floor and broke a couple of teeth.
I'm one lucky fooker!
Hope I haven't just jinxed myself!

hey kurt,
glad to see you're bouncing back man! we all pay so much for insurance so it's nice to get them to pay up once in awhile, though it sucks that you have to be injured to get money from them!
i had a rockster (R1150R) that i just crashed about 4 mos ago. i fractured 5 ribs and sprained my ankle real bad. i'm all healed up for the most part but although my ankle was just sprained it still gets sore sometimes at the end of a long day.
the ins co is salvaging the beemer and i took that money and bought the Foggy... [moto]
i'm quite obsessed with ducati's now but i'm still a huge bmw fan and i'm not going to sell my boxer cup replika. it handles like a dream and stops on a dime. it doesn't compare in power to the 916 engine but it got incredible torque right where you need it. i've had 3 bmw's since '94 and they've been nothing but fun. hope you get a replacement soon. until then i think you've got some nice duc's to satisfy your time [thumbsup]
BTW, i'll be out in barcelona in october, is there a place to rent motorcycles there? maybe we could meet? i'll be there for 2 weeks teaching a recording workshop... ;D
speedy recovery,
russ
Best wishes, NuTTs!
Good point on the sneakers != ankleguards. I haven't learned that one first hand, though I did, years ago, learn that denim pants != armor, when I bounced off my old Honda Interceptor in the twisties. Shredded denim, shredded knees.

Hey Russ,
check out Iberian Moto Tours to rent BMWs.. otherwise there are some firms that rent Harleys. Hertz rents BMW motorbikes. I'll be on a track day in Alcarras, Lerida (about 1 - 1.5 hours from Barcelona) on 25th October on a trackday. If you're here around that time we'll definately meet up!
I've just had a look at the bike today and taken some pics.. those cylinders saved my legs, no doubt about it. The impact has crushed both CF valve covers (they are over 1cm thick CF) and the valvetrain is most probably kaput.
I think I'll probably get another boxer twin.
HP2 Sport are very scarce as it is and the next free unit is available for January 2009. Fuk that! I'm so angry right now, this lady hasn't just caused me pain, injuries, stress, more marital grief, a shagged brand new Arai RX7, destroyed jeans, sneaks and leather jacket.. oh no, she's destroyed one of 3 known HP2 Sport in Spain.
I'm glad I don't tend to do bad things to people, although I am tempted right now >:( >:( >:( >:(
I may just cut my losses and buy a Vespa :P
hey kurt,
that's a f*ckin' damn shame about the HP2 [bang]
really sorry to hear that man. thankfully she just took out your bike and not your life! if you think of it that way, you're a lucky man. you live to ride again brother... [moto]
you know for that price you could afford to buy 2 boxer's...
that time might coincide with the end of my workshop so i'll keep you posted. thanks for the rental info... i'd rather be on a beemer than a harley though!
Heal up man. Crappy situation, but glad you're okay.
Now I won't make as much fun of those BMr cylinder heads.
Holy NuTTs!!
Can't believe I missed this earlier. Hope your healing up well.
Arnica (herb) works great for sore muscles, you should be able to find it at your local pharmacy.
Your bike can be replaced, you can't. :'(
that's lame, man...i know you loved the bike.
any way you could import one from another locale??
That sucks, man. Best wishes on a speedy recovery.

Buy it back from the insurance and get it fixed. You should still have money left over and you can turn it into a track bike.
The left and right cylinder valvetrain is affected, they haven't taken anything apart yet until they get the go ahead from the insurance co. that they'll be paying for the labor charges...
So far its:
left & right cylinder heads and CF covers
telelever system (it's bent and raked out)
front shock - ohlins
whole front end CF assembly (5000-6000 dollars)
front wheel
front suspension slider tubes
gas tank unit
right clip on
rear wheel
shaft drive makes noises
and much more to come :)
We're trying to find a good, positive solution to this. And we will.

How did you get sandwiched? Did she T-bone you?

The mini driver crossed a 4 lane, one way street to park on the other side of the road but trying not to go a block further up.. or going around the block to get to where she had to be. At lunchtime rush hour.
Her mini rammed the left cylinder head of my HP2 and this pushed me into the side of a parked 3 series BMW. The cylinders basically kept the force of the mini from crushing my legs. Fuk knows why she crossed the road so fast. She was on the other side of the road one second and the next I was mid flight. I landed on my head and knees.
This crude illustration with X marking around where she was before she did a GP start to the other side of the road.

Get this.. the next available unit arrives in Jan 2009, these things are hand built and there's some sort of CF shortage due to the new demand from China & India.
I'm a bit annoyed.
I'll post the pics once I get my head sorted. The bike doesn't seem that bad until you take a closer look. They're trying to tempt me with the HP2 Megamoto and 14% discount plus gear at cost..
Hmm. will defo think it ova

Just opened a can of worms there man...
I was born in the UK, grew up in Tanzania (east africa), at the age of 11 i moved to Indiana to study. halfway through my junior yr in high school (i took spanish language in h/s)i moved to the UK. I met Ana(wife, spanish) in university just before i turned 20 and we've been together since. I moved to spain the first time around end of 1999 and then permanently in 2001. I've been here since. I have a weird accent that has american, english, a slight indian twang (i'm of indian origin) when i pronounce certain words and apparently when i speak spanish I don't sound like a gringo.. i sound spanish.
Weird
