Title: Which mod would you do first?
Post by: baller30 on February 23, 2010, 05:59:21 AM
Ok so im at the cross roads of my next mod, i have some extra cash i can throw at my bike and im in a dilemma. Which mod would you do, a new pressure plate, the one i have is stock. I have a rizoma open clutch cover but no aftermarket pressure plate yet. Or the rizoma clip on triple clamp kit.
And if anyone has an better options for more to do before this by all means let me know...

Seeing as you've already got the rizoma open clutch cover it would make sense to finish the job off by installing a rizoma pressure plate and s/s springs, bolts and anodised buckets. [moto]

Have you considered the quit-pissing-around-in-your-garage-and-spend-your-extra-dough-taking-
a-day-off-from-work-and-riding-out-to-the-middle-of-nowhere-for-a-long-weekend mod?

Yeah, easily one of the better "mods".  [thumbsup] Has the best ROI too.  [moto]

I'd do the pressure plate.

Was doing that all weekend, but its kind of tough to do right now since i live in jersey. Its been so crappy almost every week and this weekend was the first time i got out. So in the meantime i see nothing wrong with doing so mods

Just giving you shit. I spent way too much time dicking around with my m750. When I get the m620 back I'm just gonna ride the make the beast with two backsing thing.

That being said, I wish I would have saved my pennies and bought performance mods instead of aesthetic ones. I would start with minimizing rotational mass first (lighter wheels), suspension next, with braking and adding power a distant 3rd and 4th (because I didn't come close to using up either of those on the 750).

Happy modding and happy motoring.  [moto]

Suspension mods first.  Get it sprung correctly for your weight and set the sag properly.  Very few people even bother with suspension when it's without a doubt the most beneficial mod you can do.

Gearing next.  The proper gearing does wonders for how fun a bike is to ride.  Getting is sorted for how/where you ride helps keep the bike in the sweet spot without a lot of shifting.

Then fueling/exhaust to get the power delivery nice and smooth.

Bling comes in last in my book.

I'd rather my bike ride nice than look nice.......

But of the mods you listed I'd do the clipons first.  They'll at least give you different riding position...something of benefit that you'll actually notice.  You can't tell the difference between a stock pressure plate and aftermarket plate while you're riding.

First mod: Fork reflectors and warning stickers
Second mod: Emissions canister (unless you live in CA)

you could always paint your stock pressure plate, and then get your clipon kit too. :)

depending on how old your bike is, it's never bad to go through and maybe do some preventative maintenance. when just doing mods, if you can't get them used in good condition, cosmetic stuff isn't worth it. if you want a vented clutch cover, just take the stock one off. if your bike is dry. $150+ for a cover and $175+ for a pressure plade, now that a bit silly.

like a couple of people mentioned before. suspension. your bike would look all nice and perdy sitting in the garage, but still would ride like s**t. i'm in the "bike riding like garbage boat". dives on braking, and lifts on hard acceleration.

clip-ons or rearsets would be nice too.

Suspension, good tires, clip ons

Cosmetic stuff,  lower headlight and gauges ( Its a cheap and easy mod), paint belt covers (cheap)

You`ll have a whole new bike that will actually ride a lot better.

Heh...

My 2c:
1.) Suspension setup.
2.) Good gear for all weather conditions you plan to ride in. Would be first, but you seem comfortable on this front.
3.) Paint the pressure plate.
4.) Clip-ons and rear sets.
5.) Bling.

Start saving for the next bike?
Would you rather buy a Monster and put $10,000 in mods in it or buy a Monster and a Multi?
I'd rather have two stock bikes than one blinged out bike.

if you're an internet junkie like i am. you just have to watch your judgment sometimes. reading threads and threads and threads of everything monster, sometimes has a bad influence on my wallet. i find myself sometimes wanting everything, and realistically only needing the basics.

but seriously if you want to do some upgrades, try get it used if you. like you wanted a pressure plate. i was watching a ducati performance one on ebay, and sold for like $50. perfect condition

my monster is by no means perfect. dented and scratched tank, badly faded carbon parts, battery acid paint damage. a monster's going to catch eyes no matter the condition.

turn the bike's radio to track 1. Desmo.......and enjoy

Great advice right there.  Especially with the used market right now.  I just picked up an S2R 1000, with 3100 miles on it, for $5k.  Why waste money on bling?

Found it on my local Craigslist of all places.  Was also looking at a clean 800 SS for $4600.  Lots of cheap bikes out there.

Best part about my find was the guy was asking $5500 for it.  Told him that price was too high and he took $500 off!  New battery, rear 2ct tire, fresh oil change.  Couldn't pass it up.   [thumbsup]

He said all his friends ride Jap bikes and gave him crap about riding the Ducati.  Wanted cash so he could buy a Jap bike.

Yeah I'm starting to feel this way. Once I'm done rebuilding the Monster she's done. She stays that way and I'm starting to save for a Sport Tourer.

So this is why you applied for mod status earlier?

suspension...

...lifts on hard acceleration.

I don't care what you do to my suspension, that's still gonna happen.

And if you told me you'd found something that'd make it stop, I'd tell you to keep it.
