Title: 916 Post by: AdamX on February 26, 2010, 01:06:38 AM Today a stumbled upon this yellow 916, bit battered and beaten :-[
Asked the them to get back to me with an acceptable price. Made a bid to one a few weeks ago but that one fell through. (http://klanrekyl.se/a/bilder/916.JPG) Title: Re: 916 Post by: lwszabo on February 26, 2010, 02:54:59 AM wow thats a shame.

I can sympathize.Title: Re: 916 Post by: NoisyDante on February 26, 2010, 09:27:18 AM I'd love to have one of these as a project bike, bring it back to life and get it looking great again.

Title: Re: 916 Post by: Desmo Demon on February 28, 2010, 10:55:52 AM Is that an SP or SPS plaque on the upper triple clamp? [evil]
I don't remember, but I think the only yellow 916 bikes came out in '98....maybe '97. I don't recall any yellow '95 or '96 models. The bike was probably wrecked and all the bodywork pulled off and simply never replaced (check the frame, swingarm, and headlight bucket area for crash damage). A tank can be found for $200-$350 and a fuel pump assembly for $50-$100. You can get a set of that Hong Kong boywork for $500. That bike in pristine condition would only bring between $5k and $6.5 (unless it is an SP or SPS). Unless there is more wrong with it, I wouldn't go more than $2500 for it in its current condition because you'll have $3500-$4000 in it before you get it complete. Then, there is the risk of bad chrome on the rockers (mainly post '95 models), belts, oil and filter, etc.....You could easily have well over $5000 in that thing before you ever really get to ride it. Personally, almost anything under $3000 would be tempting because I can do all the work myself and am familiar with the Desmoquattro SBK models. I was just working on rebuilding my 748 earlier today. The 916 family of superbikes are a LOT of fun. Title: Re: 916 Post by: Bullfrog on March 01, 2010, 01:48:02 PM for some reason, i love the picture.
it gives a 916 the kind of evil soul that British bike normally has. Title: Re: 916 Post by: Duck-Stew on March 01, 2010, 02:18:47 PM I'm lining myself up to make a run at a derelict 916 myself.
This one needs a LOT of work, almost too much... But, she's special. [drink] Title: Re: 916 Post by: lawbreaker on March 01, 2010, 02:25:01 PM Is that an SP or SPS plaque on the upper triple clamp? The 916 family of superbikes are a LOT of fun. The plaques on the numbered bikes are centered and much smaller.. my guess is thats where the p.o put a lap timer or clock/gps thingy. I dont believe the SP/SPS's came in yellow... but i could be wrong Title: Re: 916 Post by: Monsterlover on March 01, 2010, 02:25:37 PM I'm lining myself up to make a run at a derelict 916 myself. Title: Re: 916 Post by: Monsterlover on March 01, 2010, 02:46:17 PM :D
Title: Re: 916 Post by: Grampa on March 01, 2010, 02:49:14 PM There's a plaque on the top triple of this one... and it reads " this end up " Title: Re: 916 Post by: Duck-Stew on March 01, 2010, 02:49:48 PM Title: Re: 916 Post by: Monsterlover on March 01, 2010, 02:53:14 PM "more throttle!!" ?
Title: Re: 916 Post by: Duck-Stew on March 01, 2010, 02:58:05 PM "more throttle!!" ? Uh, no. It's an SPS that I *think* was used as an anchor for a deep-sea fishing vessel at one point. It's probably the saddest Duc I think I've ever seen. Title: Re: 916 Post by: Monsterlover on March 01, 2010, 02:59:16 PM That's quite the mental image.
Maybe leave the barnacles and seaweed on it? Go for a Bioshock type theme? ;D Title: Re: 916 Post by: Duck-Stew on March 01, 2010, 03:01:32 PM [roll]
Title: Re: 916 Post by: Monsterlover on March 01, 2010, 03:02:48 PM dood
it was a joke Title: Re: 916 Post by: Duck-Stew on March 01, 2010, 03:04:19 PM I know, I know... It's just that I'm now remembering just how bad this bike is...
Title: Re: 916 Post by: Monsterlover on March 01, 2010, 03:10:11 PM Was this thing in a fire?
It's bad like that? or bad like it's been stored in a pit and covered in earth? Title: Re: 916 Post by: Duck-Stew on March 01, 2010, 03:31:58 PM PM sent.
Title: Re: 916 Post by: Desmo Demon on March 02, 2010, 04:44:09 AM The plaques on the numbered bikes are centered and much smaller.. That's what I was thinking on both counts. I just haven't seen a real SP or SPS in several years. IIRC, very few 916 bikes came in yellow and none of them were SP or SPS bikes, but I am far from being any type of expert on the subject.<snip> I dont believe the SP/SPS's came in yellow... but i could be wrong Title: Re: 916 Post by: Monsterlover on March 02, 2010, 05:29:40 AM It could also have been painted or had the plastic swapped out for yellow.
