Title: doggie diabetes
Post by: brix821 on February 27, 2010, 12:57:05 PM
my 12 y.o sheppard lab mix was diagnosed with diabetes yesterday.  I gave her the 1st shot of insulin today, and it went great...anyone have any diet tips or advice?

Sorry to hear.  No tips, assuming doggie diabetes is like people diabetes, there are different types, therefore different diets.  Your vet is your best resource.

I had a cat that had diabetes.

I had to give her insulin 2x a day to maintain the proper levels.

She was right as rain after I started shooting her up ;)

The vet didn't have me do anything special with her diet.

She lived to be 17.  Insulin injections for the last 2 years of her life.

This is my mom's website, she used to be on the board of trustees for a veterinary hospital and animal shelter.  I urge you to send me her a message here, she probably knows a ton on the subject.

And while you're at the site she has a ton of fun info on traveling with pets.
