Title: Swatt is history
Post by: Mr Earl on March 02, 2010, 05:58:18 PM
I've been trying to contact Swatt for 2 weeks to exchange some mismatched clip-on risers, but have gotten no response.  Now I know why:

damnit....  have you seen listings for them recently on ebay?

Sorry to hear that you are left holding mismatched risers.... >:(

I'm looking on ebay now, but if they're selling, they're not using the Swatt name.

Yeah, my moto luck is outstanding.  The right bar is about 1/4" lower than the left bar, at the end.  Guess I'll have to get used to it...

Damn. Another one bites the dust.  :(

Which Swatts do you have?

Black, 3-1/2" risers.  I like them fine, but I waited too long to exchange.  It's too bad they're gone, their stuff is/was certainly robust and nicely made.

In what way are the risers mismatched? (you have a PM btw).

That's really too bad - he made some nice parts :'(

Some good news about riser clip ons: Jeff at MonsterParts has/wil have new Apex clip ons featuring the same advantages and more [thumbsup]

The guy took my C.C. info a few weeks ago and I forgot about it.  Got a charge on my card the other day and didn't recognize it.

A pair of black 2.5" Swatt's arrived today.  Maybe I got the last set?!?  Shame they went under, cuz I need another pair and now what to buy...

Oh well.

I have a pair of 2.5" Swatt risers in a box on a shelf that I was intending to keep for no good reason.  Except that I love to hoard stuff  8).  But I hate to think that you're stuck with an unrectifiable mismatch.... sooooo if you think you could use em, they're yours  [beer].

I just recieved my 2.5" risers from Swatt this morning.  I will admit communication was a little lacking but they came through.  Also, you may want to check your "junk" folder for a response since both emails I received from them ended up there.  Good luck.

Oh, man...  Good for you.  No, there's nothing in the junk folder.  They probably were willing to fill orders, but not willing to do freebie replacements.

Ungeheuer, as one hoarder to another, I appreciate the generosity and sacrifice of your offer.  But I really like the riding position with the 3.5s so unless some of those come around, I'll suck it up and use these.  Hell, I rode with a bent right bar for 2 years, it's not like I'm not used to it!

Looks like I'll be sticking with my bars then.  No point in making the monster into a SBK ergonomic wise for me.  Thats what the new bike will be for ;)

Swatt is done - that explains things.  They didn't return two of my messages, either.

PJFA - are you mounting those below the triple, or above?

Don't forget about LSL clipons.  Seem to be very well made. Don't know if they make a 3.5" though.

Is there an issue with mounting them above the triple? is that why everyone is looking for 2.5-3.5" rise?

Yes there is an issue with mounting clipons above the triple.  You cant.  There isnt enough exposed fork leg to mount em to unless you either do as pjfa and fit longer forks or else dramatically alter the steering geometry by dropping the forks in the clamps 50mm or so.

Get mines today from Germany (http://www.performanceparts.de/ (http://www.performanceparts.de/))
A little issue with a mark in the top of the right clamp.
Already sent an e-mail to Wolfgang about this.

And... He already answer me:
He will send me a new clamp asap [thumbsup]

small update in the world of clipons...
woodcraft-cfm is now manufacturing and selling clipons with 2.5 and 3 inch risers.
previously the highest riser they had was 2-inch.
I've only seen this directly on woodcraft-cfm.com

They look good, but for roughly $268 US I'd expect service like that!

Those are 1098 forks, correct?  With 4 lines showing on the top of the tubes, the clearance between the front wheel and the head/oil-cooler or rad is going to be VERY close, if not too close.

I'm running into problems on my bike, as the forks are long enough, but because of the taper in-between the mounting points, you cannot slide them down far enough to get back to stock height/spacing.  I'm going to have to make up a shim to go over the forks so I can drop them down and still clamp them in the triple.

I wish I could find the stock measurement of a s4r with radial brakes, but I haven't been able to.  Best measurement I've gotten on mine has been 17 7/8" from center of axle to the bottom of the triple/stem.  Sure doesn't look like it's enough.....

I was on a quest for the right rise clip on last week and I came across the SV racing forums and hooked up with Blair from svracingparts. He bought much of the Swatt stock and has many 50mm variations in stock.

http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=117052 (http://forum.svrider.com/showthread.php?t=117052)

Blair is super professional and his prices are great too. No 53mm applications though.
