this is the second time i can remember that ducati PR/marketing folks have used smoke in a launch ... the first time was for the d16rr launch in 2004 @ wdw ... for those who were not there, minoli launched the d16rr by having a d16 motor raised on a stand on the main stage of wdw, with a ton of smoke and red laser lights coming from the hole in the stage where the platform raised. new motor + smoke and red lights = wtf?
so, now with the multistroodle 1200 launch/press release this week, they release this photo:
so ... do multistroodle 1220's smoke their tires all on their own? or, perhaps they shoot out burning embers from their exhaust, and start brush fires?
i am all for cool photos for a product launch ... but motors with smoke billowing out of them, and bikes that do burnouts on their own ... i am not sure.
All I can think is that the smoke helps distract folks from the enormous proboscis on that thing.
Same trick worked for me for 20+ years ;D
Might have something to do with the fact the launch was on a volcanic island.
Wow that photo truly sucks
As a avid photographer I cant find much right with it.

Maybe they should have used the multistroodle as a sacrifice ;D

must resist temptation to make comment about smoke from ass. must resist temptation to make comment about smoke from ass. must resist temptation to make comment about smoke from ass. [roll]

perhaps ... but what was the reason for billowing smoke from a stage, when they launched the d16 back @ wdw 2004? oh yeah, italy has volcanic action too [roll]
maybe because they are Italian and like smoke and laser beams.
2 words: euro. trash.
They love smoke and lasers. I mean, don't we all? But Italians...they're all over that like sauce on spaghetti.
Hmm I thought it was one of them ocean blow holes in the rocks... Seems to have a lot of upward force for a smoke bomb..

this is the most plausible explanation ... i bet if the photo had a sound track, it would be eurotrash electronica.
it actually looks like a still from a video shoot. somewhere there is a video being produced with this image

Yeah, but using something that evokes "blow" and "hole" with a product isn't always the best thing to do. ;D

if ducati re-brands the multistroodle the "glory hole 1200", then perhaps this makes sense.
I GOT IT
blow, nose... they are evoking the hole in the nose...
they are making fun of their own bike :D
I can sleep now
Lazer beams and smoke make sense, I guess, though that's so horribly cheesy [laugh]
When I first looked at this I thought it was a small, wimpy tornado coming up the rear of the bikes for no particular reason.
ducs with frick'n laser beams attached to their heads.
coooool
I like the bikes, not so much that photo. Like Rob said, doesn't really make sense to me in anyway at all.
I still don't get it. What does smoke have to do with Ardvarks and ant eaters????
The picture makes no sense. I keep waiting for the bikes to bend down and suck some ants up off the ground....and then there is that distracting smoke.
Probably the poorly designed rear brake being slightly misadjusted so it make the beast with two backsing catches on fire.
ding, ding, ding ... winner, winner ... chicken dinner!!!!! [thumbsup]
