What is there to get used to? I am used to a Weber for my charcoal exploits. How is the BGE different besides astronomical searing temps?
I have a sleeve of chicken legs/thighs that I'm marinating right now. Ironically enough, a sleeve of chicken legs/thighs are what killed the DCS grill that I'm trading for the BGE. Thought it would be smart to catch all the grease in an aluminum foil tray......not so smart.

You will just need get used to the amount of heat it can produce. Realizing you need less charcoal (use theirs). It will take some time to learn to use it properly. You will love it. [thumbsup]
Sweet!
I have a Char-Broil knock off of the Weber (don't ask) and the thing eats charcoal like a hungry hungry hippo.
It needs a giant pile of coals to sear a steak.
Love my big green egg ;D You can smoke a whole brisket and not have to add charcoal plus it is real easy to regulate the temperature. If you plan on running high temperature, and, yes, the Egg is capable of 650oF temperatures, get the Nomex gasket. Also get the plate setter for indirect cooking. Lots of good Big Green Egg videos at http://www.fredsmusicandbbq.com (http://www.fredsmusicandbbq.com)

This.
My friend Chris does a slow-cooked brisket in his that just falls apart. The BGE is money well spent.
Bookmark. I love to grill and have always been curious about those big green eggs.....
<edit> I have a gas grill I use for most of my grilling - cheap Kenmore but it has a rotisserie and I rebuilt it this year with a new burner and cast iron grates - best investment ever. I also have a cheapie Home Despot brinkman box smoker. Love the design, but because it is made out of thin sheet metal it is almost impossible to keep the heat consistent.
I have heard pretty much nothing but raves about the BGE. But I just can't stomach the price :-\
I have a Weber kettle and a Weber Smokey Mountain that serves me pretty well.

No thanks! I used to have a Weber bullet until it rusted into the ground last season.
Heard nothing but good from some friends about BGE (I keep thinking Baltimore Gas/Electric)
I've only got the MOAG (mother of all grills (named by someone other than myself)) which takes up most of my backyard patio space but is a gas grill...
So, when are we coming over... ;D

I have a WSM also, and love it. [thumbsup]
I wanted a big green egg, but I thought the price was a little exorbitant. Hell, even the WSM is high, but I got mine on eBay for $150.
Picked it up yesterday!
I cooked a mess of marinated, skinless, chicken drumsticks at 350 for 45 minutes. Turned them once. Came out great! Nice browned exterior with brown, not black grill marks and the chicken was juicy and just right.
The cool part is, the previous owner has cooked with the BGE charcoal that is currently in it about 5 times already.....same charoal. I used the charcoal that came in the thing (hers) and it still has several more cookings left......awesome!
When you are done, close off the dampers and the fire dies.
Brisket or some pork product will be next.
You will be surprised how much you actually save on charcoal, and how long it last's. Wait till you do a whole chicken. :) They sell a rack you can stand him on, but a beer can works as well. [thumbsup]
Love the BGE! I don't have one, but my buddy's got one and it is amazing!
....egg-envy!
The Egg came with two such poultry racks. Wifey gave me the stainless beer can chicken rack thing from Cabelas.
Maybe Ill do a couple chickens next.....
There has been an inordinate amount of, shall we say... animal enthusiasm... today. [puke]

I used the Cabelas double beer can chicken rack. 325 degrees for 2 hours with some pecan chips for smoke. Opened up the dampers for the last 10 minutes to crisp the skin.
Awesomeness!
