I picked up a 2004 VFR today. I wanted something sporting, yet a capable tourer with available luggage.
Seller's pic but it's in my garage now alongside the GasGas. The Duc is still in the living room for now.
I owned a VF500F waaaay back in like 93. Slightly different beast but gotta be good. Low maintenance requirements is a major plus for any kind of touring machine.

That's considered a touring bike?! I see the handlebars, but the tank and seat look like you would be leaning forward pretty far in a fairly aggressive riding position.
It looks awesome, though, nice score.
ps-get rid of those fairings, everyone knows naked bikes are cooler. ;D

I was checking that and the 919 (flat black as well) back in 03-04.
If that feels anything like the ST3/ST4 comfort-wise..you can ride it all day long!!

VFR is a sport tour bike. Competes in the same space as the DUC ST bikes. So it'll have a somewhat sporty riding position - though not as sporty as a SBK or something of that ilk.

There are about 8500 miles on it, and I paid 5500. Not the smokin deal I was looking for, but definitely fair considering had I bought a different one for 4999 that I looked at, I would have added stuff anyway. Need Givi bags now.
The Pazzo levers are a nice touch, and the undertail lights are better than stock IMO.

The seller had no idea about the kit since all this stuff was on the bike when he got it.
Initial round the block impressions are comfy, slick transmission, a little stumble off idle on the FI but nothing serious. When the Vtec kicks in at 6500 you definitely know it [moto] But the pipes are actually a little quieter that I would have thought.
VERY nerve wracking pulling this and my GasGas side by side on the 4x8 Harbor Freight trailer. I neglected to factor in how to tie down the bike due to the fairings but managed to get it stable-ish. PUlling it onto Lake Winnebago was hairy tho. Very rough :)
And adding this bike to the stable means that I now have to deal with FOUR...yes FOUR....insurance companies. I figured Foremost would be cheap since that's the best price I got on my 05 S4R (225). Wrong. They wanted over $900 because it's "high performance". uhhhhh Really? Less power and value, more weight.....So Progressive for $337.
Every Ducati should come with a Honda ;)
VFR's are great all round bikes, and that is a really fine looking 6th gen!

One of my all time fav bikes! My dad used to let me ride on the back of his 80's vfr while stationed out in Subic Bay. I was 5 at the time but I was hooked from that point on. I told my wife i'll get a VFR in the tricolor to honor that old thing. But....that flat black look is evil!
I put on about 25 miles today. Still not warm enough (ice) at night for me to feel comfortable taking it to work.
It's deceptively quick.
I ordered a rebuild kit for my levers. The brake functions fine but the clutch side is not adjustable - kinda rusty springs and balls.
So while I was sad to see the ice riding come to a halt, now spring can't get here fast enough! [evil]
Love the black as well. Luckily my leathers are black/white/red so it should work.
You'll love it, they are great scooters! There is a left over new red/white/blue 2007 that calls to me every time I go to the nearby Honda Powersports dealership. They are going for a killer price... thankfully I have forgetten the dollar amount! Something I don't need to think about!! [bang] There is a reason the VFRs won so many Cycle World ten best awards year after year. Why Honda equiped them with the stupid VTEC valve system is beyond me! >:( It was like the answer to a question no one ever asked! Geee, look what we can do!! OK... but why? Wish you could get rid of it like a tail chop on a Monster but you just have to deal with it. It obviously doesn't keep the bike from being a kick ass scooter! [thumbsup] [moto] [clap]

Excellent Choice! I picked mine up last spring. Honestly, out of all the bikes I have owned, it is my favorite. I am able to keep up with supersports on the street but also rode 1,600 miles in four days. My wife is comfortable on the back and the bike handles a second rider well. I can't wait to take it on another long trip this summer. Mine sounds pretty nice with the Micron exhaust that came on it also.
My only two gripes are that it should weigh less, and VTEC is overrated. You learn pretty quickly to roll the throttle on slowly exiting corners around 6,500 rpm. For the $5,200 I paid though I consider it a bargain. I am just about to roll over 16,000 miles and am trying to get excited about doing the valve checks. Of course, I can't complain too much after just jumping from a 6k interval to 16k, even if the VTEC is complex. I really can't imagine a time when I'll sell it unless it is completely worn out.
After having done my own check on the Monster once, and having a shop do it for $450, the frequency of the VFR check and the cost really doesn't phase me at all.
The bike seems kinda heavy walking about, but in the little bit of riding I got so far, it seems to wear it pretty well.
