Title: Ducati tank for display- seeking ideas Post by: eesnas on March 09, 2010, 12:17:41 PM Hi again everyone, I've been hibernating but again the sunshine has come out and here I am. Hope everyone had a good winter.
So here I am with my wonderful custom tank on the bike and my limited edition Matrix tank sitting on a shelf in my garage, I'd like to take it out of the garage and put it somewhere it can be appreciated. Since I am a fan of the movies, at least the first one, and I think the fact it's a factory limited edition is extremely cool, I'd like to find a tasteful way to display the tank in my apartment. I'll need to buy an aftermarket gas cap for it, any suggestions on that please feel free to post links, I also would like to get a ding removed but not sure if paintless dent removal will work on the metal. I had PDR done to my car door and it worked great, but it's a thinner panel from what I understand, anyone know about PDR on a Monster tank? The ding is small enough that I don't really care. I am just trying to think, once I get a cap on it and clean it up nice, what's a good way to display it? Maybe there is no need for a display case, I guess I won't know until I clean it up and place it in the apartment somewhere that looks tasteful... Wall mount would possibly be cool but not sure how, even string from the ceiling close to a wall might work. any ideas? Anyone else display unique parts? Hoping for some pics or ideas... Title: Re: Ducati tank for display- seeking ideas Post by: teddy037.2 on March 09, 2010, 01:55:31 PM if the room you want it in has a wall with a hallway parallel to it...
cut tank in half. put one half in the hall, the other in the room on the wall opposite of the tank half in the hall. (room) | (hall) | tank -> (|) | | (entry) | | Title: Re: Ducati tank for display- seeking ideas Post by: DarkDuc696 on March 09, 2010, 02:09:51 PM IMO if there is a wall like teddy said id just put a hole in the wall and put in a lighted plexiglass box. Then you can enjoy it inside and outside, if thats an option that is. if not, mounting it vertically would be cool, under some florescent lights... even better if you can put a bladder inside and the fuel drain holes as a sort of tap for beer, or other beverage (maybe run lines behind it for the same appearance...

(room) | (hall) | tank -> (|) | | (entry) | | That's a cool idea - then it looks like it was made into the wall! Title: Re: Ducati tank for display- seeking ideas Post by: ajw85 on March 10, 2010, 06:28:09 AM do you have a kitchen island? do you have room for one? do you want one?
build a cart out of metal and plexiglass with rollers that lock, build a mount for the tank and place inside the cart. use the cart as a kitchen island and whenever you're in the kitchen admire the tank. Looked cool. [thumbsup] Love to see pics of this... Unfortunately I rent so I can't punch holes through walls... I like the ideas of glass with florescent though. Title: Re: Ducati tank for display- seeking ideas Post by: Spidey on March 10, 2010, 06:50:15 AM I don't have any pics, but I hope I'm remembering it correctly. I sent Juan a PM with a link to this thread. He's not on the DMF every day like he used to be on TOB.

(http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2711/4423347503_e7cde35d05_b.jpg) a wall mount would look cool. Cool... I am thinking first step is I need a gas cap. My OEM cap is of course being used on the bike now, anyone have suggestions on an aftermarket gas cap? It needs not only the cap but the hardware on the edges, I'm hoping not to spend a ton on it but I want something that looks nice. Title: Re: Ducati tank for display- seeking ideas Post by: Bones on March 11, 2010, 09:44:34 AM juan, where did you get that poster/print?
Title: Re: Ducati tank for display- seeking ideas Post by: Juan on March 11, 2010, 09:55:27 AM Some one of the TOB made it, I copied it and just made it big, had it printed at Kinko and than I just framed it.
