Title: how to install volar frame sliders...
Post by: Piller on March 10, 2010, 04:15:58 PM
so I got volar frame sliders.  I can't figure out what to do with the sliders that go on the wheels.  There's no bar for them.  They go on the back wheel, right?  I've seen them on the front wheel before...

That photo looks like pretty normal frame sliders...

Volar doesn't list axle/wheel sliders on their site.  SO i"m A little confused.

On a side note.. Volar is hurtning for search results.  Google has indexed this thread sevral spots higher than their own product site.  [roll]

Yep, that is a standard frame slider kit.  There are no axle sliders in that picture.  Piller, I think you may be just a little confused on how to install them.  The plastic delrin pieces are mounted onto those black metal pieces and bolted on.  I have a similar set from a different manufacturer.  Here's a picture to illustrate how that set should be installed.

So I went to walmart to buy some 3/4" sockets.  Either metric or sae stanley sockets are too thick to fit in the frame slider.  What brand of socket has walls thin enough to fit in a tight spot?

Aren't the nuts going on the rod before the sliders go on?

I haven't done this myself - just trying to help.

I don't see how you could put the nuts on first....  How would the sliders stay on?  The nuts are there to tighten them on....

I was thinking there has to be a nut firmly pressing against the frame, next to the engine, like it is stock. Then adding the sliders with threads in them (?), or by a second nut perhaps. As I said, I don't really know how this works - just playing the role of the curious neighbour coming over asking silly questions....

Yeah that would make sense.  I'm pretty sure you just put theframe sliders on and then the nuts go on over the sliders.

It sucks that you need two deepwell sockets to tighten them.

Can someone give me some advice here...  I thought the smaller CF parts would fit inthe hole first, but it barely doesn't fit.  Do I need to bang them in?  I'm trying to put the skinny part of the smaller cf part in the hole where the threaded bar comes out.  Is this correct?
