New member here! Just purchased an '08 Monster 695. I'm the second owner. The bike has the low-mount Termi slip-on's. I have a question about changing the air filter. As part of the Termi system, the bike apparently gets a high flow air filter. Is it just the air filter housing that has changed with the Termi system, or the filter itself?
I'm wondering because I am not sure if I just order the Ducati air filter (part number 426.1.010.1A) or if I have to have a special air filter.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
whats your filter look like? if it feels like a piece of paper. its disposable. otherwise its a reusable filter that you need to clean with oil.
It's just a paper filter, sits below the fuel tank in the filter box.
Never heard of cleaning it with oil--usually you're just supposed to blow them out with some compressed air.
But according to the owner's manual, they should be replaced every 24 months or 15,000 miles. But I'm wondering if my bike uses a special air filter because of the Termignoni's.
If it's a cotton gauze between wire mesh, then it can be cleaned and re-oiled like He Man said. K&N sells the necessary sort of cleaner and the filter oil. One can usually find both being sold as a bundle at auto parts or moto stores.

There's no filter housing that you could replace... well there is, but you *should* not be replacing it. The air box has got two halves, the top being held in place by 4 clips. Pop off those clips and the top simple lifts off, revealing the filter. With the top off, you can just lift the filter out. To od all this, you'll need to raise the tank, so just run the bike low on gas before you get to the work.
Now, there's two flavor of termi kits for the 695. On one hand, you just have the slip ons, nothing else. The other, more expensive flavor has the slp ons, a different Ducati Performance ECU, a different, opened up air box lid, and a cotton gauze element filter.

If you have the Ducati Performance ECU, a Power Commander, or other device to add fuel to your fuel air mix, you could look at one of the DP or K&N filters and an opened up air box. If you ONLY have the slip ons, and not means for your bike to add fuel if you add air - just replace the paper filter with the like and keep the air box lid stock
Many thanks! That explains it well. I'm the second owner so I'm still trying to sort out what has been changed on the bike. The previous owner said he only installed the Termi slip-on kit, which apparently comes with a new ECU and air filter, but it's not the "full" Termi kit.
wanna buy my filter? Its a K&N. ive been wanting to switch to pod filters for a while....
Hmmm I have the DP kit w/ ECU & airbox and have never oiled the wire mesh filter. It was installed by a very good Ducati-only dealership, and they didn't oil it either. I've never ever heard that the DP filters need oiling. Come to think of it the instructions for installation that came with the kit make no mention of oiling the filter. K&Ns & BMCs maybe, but not DP. Bike runs great.
Mmmmm any cotton gauze media filter should be oiled. DP doesn't use super special cotton -the oils job is to get fine particles to stick. Finer than the cotton can do without
+1 on Omnipotent Potentate Yuu. You need to get dirty with the oil so your bike gets clean air.
If you do not want to mess with it, the Ducati paper filters are fine.

So I just called and they said they never oil the filters when they install the kits - but that they should be cleaned & oiled when they get dirty. I wonder if any damage has been done in 4500 miles...
Probably the only damage was that your oil dirtied up sooner than it could have. Though the oil does serve a purpose, it's not as important as having the filter in place in the first place. So... go clean it, oil it and just remember it for the future.
usually the DP/Termi mod comes with a BMC filter. And yes, it needs an oiling. By the K&N kit
