Title: 620 Starting Problem
Post by: jsalvado on March 12, 2010, 12:21:46 PM
I just acquired a 2002 620 monster dark with a starting problem.
The bike will only start if the battery was disconnected for approximately 1 hour then reconnected, but if you leave the battery connected it won't start. It's as if something has to discharge before it will start.   When the bike starts it runs strong with no problems. After the battery is connected for a length of time the starter won't even run and I get a code of 6Abb (the “bb “actually looks like a backwards “FF”) in the tachometer window. Has anybody experienced this problem or have any ideas where I should look for a fix?
Thanks, Jim

Welcome, Jim.

Best place to look is the tech section. The people who actually know how to fix these things hang out there. It's located here (http://ducatimonsterforum.org/index.php?board=4.0). You can move your own thread-there should be an option at the bottom.

Also, there's an introduce yourself board, in case you want to stick around.

Try checking out where the negative battery cable grounds on the swingarm. Some corrosion there can cause some issues. Put your finger on the bolt connecting the ground cable to the swingarm and try starting the bike. Hope this helps.  [moto]

Thanks for your suggestion. I cleaned and tighten the ground terminal but it had no effect on my problem. I think this problem is with the immobilizer system within the instrument panel. I looking for somebody who knows about this immobilizer system.

Thanks again, Jim

Use the red key if you think it is the immobilizer. It should reset the immobilizer for you and works like a regular key. If this solves the problem then you may just have an antennae issue(located in the black housing surrounding the ignition.
