I first met Helen a few years ago. She was named after Mt St. Helens mostly in part due to her ash colored coat.
lm and I had just moved in together, and we were in the middle of getting Bob adjusted to his new home. A few months into Bobs introduction, Michelle had decided it was time to bring her baby kitty home to stay. Helen had been Michelles kitty for a few years, and when she and her ex split, Helen had stayed with her him, mostly due to the fact that Helen spent most of her time under the bed, scared of the world. Noises bothered her, sudden movements bothered her, just about everything caused her to run and hide.
About 6 months ago, Helen changed. She spent more time on the bed than under it. She didn't run away when the dogs were around, she even purred when petted. She was a whole new Helen. The downside to this new kitty, was the weight loss. The more she hung out topside, the more weight she lost. The vet had given us appetite stimulant pills for her which seem to help a lil.
By Christmas Helen had become so frail looking, we were all fearfull of even picking her up, thinking we were going to hurt her.
She made it through Christmas...... New years.... my b-day....Michelles b-day , and even into March. She looked like a shell of her former self, but just kept going, all the while, becoming more and more like the friendly lap cat she never was in her youth.
This week Michelle and I volunteered to be camp counselors at a nature camp on the coast. It meant being away Monday through Friday, so we asked a neighbor to come by and check in on her and giver her her meds as well as feed her and the other pets.
Apparently Helen passed away in her sleep sometime Thursday morning.
Not being here for her when she passed is hitting lm and I kinda hard right now. Michelle and I both said goodbye to her before we left, knowing she might go while we were away, but without saying it to each other, we both quietly hoped she'd be waiting patiently on the bed for us when we got home.
Bye bye baby kitty....... :'(

We have a very old kitteh that has been becoming more and more frail, and I worry every time we leave for a few days, so I understand.
RIP Helen.
Having met Helen I can say she was a real sweetie.
Condolences to you and lm.
Have fun in kitty heaven....
RIP Helen.

She was lucky to have good people to look after her. Right now she is playing on that big ball of yarn in the sky.

Oh that's tough. Really sorry to hear about Helen & the two of you not being there (because you were giving to others). You and LM did everything you possibly could. Helen is at peace.

Sorry for your guys' loss, Joel.
And it may be the Irish in me, but I think it's now time to have a big ass party to drink and celebrate Helen's life.
