I was in the Ducati dealership today talking about the difference between Ti and CF exhaust cans. I love the look of CF cans, but the owner took me into the shop and showed me a few cans that have discoloration (turning brown-ish) and/or loosing their shine. It almost looks like the clear coat (if there is one) has worn off. Is there a way to stop this from happening? What is the cause of it?
Im looking to get a new exhaust, i love the look of the CF cans but if there is no way to preserve the look, ill go with Ti cans instead.
its mostly Heat and UV related, or a combo of both.
dont forget, CF was never intended to be a bling part, its meant for lightweight strength before its suppose to look pretty.

Most carbon cans that turn brown needed to be re-packed. The brown is a sign they've been heat damaged.
If they're yellowish/greenish that's UV.
Mine have had a lot of UV exposure [bang] bloody Aussie sun ;D and had lost there lusture and looked crap
I used CRC silicone spray BEING VERY CAREFUL NOT TO GET IT ON BRAKES AND TYRES!!
Now they look new again
Amazing result [thumbsup] give it a try.

Good thing it worked mate because you can forget about re-clearing them now. [thumbsup]

I think it also has something to do with the quality of the carbon. I have a few bits of OEM CF on my Sprint (can, front fender, hugger, frame protectors) and at ten years, it still looks new. The aftermarket side panels on my monster, OTOH, look crap.
i feel like my termis are going green, and ive only had them a year, i live in michigan. wtf
and will just clearing them fix this? how?

Clear will not change the color...
just the gloss level.
Termi cans are not UV protected AFAIK
